Free content management/website hosted automatically...any exist?

I want to do a "create a website using a contement management system" such as WordPress for my students, but I'm looking for one that doesn't need files to be uploaded, etc. via ftp--I'd like one that is just hosted right there at the host's site, but also not one that looks like Myhaikuclass or Moodle.

This would be an assignment where they'd invent a business so to speak, so WordPress WOULD be perfect, but it's too much for them and the assignment to get everyone server space, etc.

Thanks for any good leads!

Perhaps the first assignment is to set up a WordPress account, and get their page up and running.

There are a few interesting startups working in the space. For the simplest, check out something like Padlet, which is basically a virtual bulletin board.

For students? Tumblr. It's easy, it's free and half of them might already be there anyway. Plus lots of themes that'd work for this purpose. I've had several classes over the years create their own sites. And it's great for one-off, throwaway projects like that. It's basically as close to the "new geocities" as exists these days.

In recent months, I've turned some faculty onto it and they all love how easy it is to use, etc. etc. It's a bit quirky, but it gets the job done.
