In the Year Of Our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and Eighty Seven, three Seniors in very strong academic standing nearly got themselves expelled from one of Georgia's top private schools for authoring an underground newspaper that took some pretty hard and direct shots at the children of some of Columbus, GA's elite citizens. Said newspaper was particularly harsh on the most popular of the Junior girls, most of whom were pretty much Blair clones. Pretty, blonde, BMWs, acted like airheads even though they weren't, very surface-y, debutantes, the whole nine yards.

At any rate, for reasons that weren't even clear to this particular participant in the newspaper writing, the original copies of it have managed to survive dozens of moves, two fires, and countless attempts at "throwing away some of these old papers" by a wife.

Those reasons became clear today. I present to you, from T.R.U.T.H, volume 3, published at some time in March 1987, the scoop, the skinny, and the final word on this. This is truth that has not changed in 26 years, gentlemen.

EDIT: I suppose I had a tiny hand in our fair city getting dissed by Ice T. After the Beastie Boys played in Columbus that same year, the powers the be gathered a group of "respectable teenagers," myself included, to meet with the mayor to talk about if that sort of thing was common, what to do about it, etc. The primary issue with *that* concert, as we saw it, was that there were hundreds of 10ish to 13ish year-old suburban white kids there..with their parents, thus causing a major major major stink. (Think of the movie CB4..pretty sure the whole deal with the council member's son was based on what went down in Columbus.) Anyway, we suggested that there needed to be an age limit of 14 (high school freshman) on concerts with cussin', nekkidness, etc. like that one. They made the age 18, which of course caused major issues, and the rest was history. Funny stuff. (And yes, Ice T is correct that they even arrested Bobby Brown and Cool J.)

At the time? I thought Blair was pretty. I wasn't wild about her*, but I founder her more appealing than Jo. I have never found Jo (McKeon) attractive**. It's possible that part of this was a perceived lack of femininity in the character, but it's a feeling I've never shaken. Of course I was maybe seven when she joined the show, so I was probably pretty impressionable.

* if we're talking contemporaries, I'd have opted for Benson's Missy Gold over either, personally. Closer to my age anyway.

** I mean, she's certainly not ugly, but she just didn't move the meter at all.
