Torrid April Gets Castro CL #1 Batter Trophy

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Orlando Castro put together a solid offensive month for Baltimore and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .315 with 12 home runs, 29 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

RL Best Hitter Trophy Goes to Haas

Eric Haas of the Hammersmith Hooligans was named the Republic League's best batter for his fine performance in April.

He compiled a .294 batting average and .421 on-base percentage during the month. In 28 games he piled up 32 hits, 7 home runs, 11 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

Bennett Selected CL's Best Pitcher

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, John Bennett still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 31-year-old starter for Cleveland was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and no losses with 23 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.55 ERA in 46.1 innings of work.

Reynaldo González is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for April.

He made 15 relief appearances for Hammersmith last month, throwing 16 innings and collecting 12 saves, a 0-0 record, 14 strikeouts and a 0.56 ERA.

Earl Martin is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Baltimore hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .353 average with 41 hits, 2 home runs and 11 RBIs.

Gómes Wins CL's Best Bat Award

Today Brooklyn's Pablo Gómes was named Continental League Batter of the Month for May. He slammed opposing pitching hard all month long, bashing out 44 hits in 114 at-bats.

With a .386 batting average, 7 home runs, 25 RBIs and 20 runs scored, he was a solid choice.

This season Gómes has hit at a .396 clip with 44 RBIs, 9 home runs and 49 runs scored.

RL Choice for Batter of the Month is Edwards

Oscar Edwards battered Republic League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Edwards told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Edwards hit .311 with 9 home runs, 22 RBIs and scored 21 runs.

So far this year Edwards is hitting .304 with 15 home runs.

Baltimore Starter Named CL's Top Pitcher

Jorge Herrera's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in May, the 28-year-old Baltimore hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 40 in 36 innings, logged an ERA of 2.00 and allowed opponents to hit .246 against him.

This season Herrera has compiled a 7-2 record with a 2.92 ERA.

Allen Acclaimed Top Pitcher in May

Veteran Nathan Allen put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Tokyo Catfish, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Allen racked up a 7-1 record in 8 starts, posting a 1.93 ERA over 56 innings and striking out 33.

So far this season Allen has compiled a 10-3 record with a 3.72 ERA.

May's Outstanding CL Rookie Announced

Gavin Vance's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Baltimore center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .318 with 6 doubles, no triples and 2 home runs. Vance also scored 11 times and drove in 13 runs.

So far this season Vance has hit .309 with 3 home runs, 24 RBIs and and scored 24 times.

Youngster Raúl Ruíz emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Colorado deserved the honor, batting .346 with 5 home runs and 10 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Ruíz enjoy the limelight.

Ruíz is hitting .290 for the season with 5 home runs, 15 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He has 60 hits in 207 at-bats and played in 56 games.

Foreman Claims CL Batter of the Month Award

Cleveland third baseman Patrick Foreman certainly turned heads in June with some impressive numbers. He batted .333 for the month and was voted the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He banged 8 home runs, collected 21 RBIs, scored 20 times and put up a .398 on-base percentage.

Thus far this year Foreman has hit .275 with 19 home runs and 56 RBIs.

McCutcheon of Tokyo RL Batter of the Month

When guys like Tokyo's Jeff McCutcheon win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive June, the longtime Republic League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 35 hits in 109 at-bats.

The veteran right fielder hit for a .321 batting average and collected 8 home runs, 18 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

For the year McCutcheon is batting .303 with 16 home runs, 52 RBIs and 42 runs scored.

Field Chosen June's Best CL Hurler

Alan Field took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in June. After all these years playing ball, the 36-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-1 for Napa Valley last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.01 ERA in his 7 starts, tossing 44.2 innings and striking out 22.

His record this season is 7-10 in 20 starts and Field has a 2.76 ERA.

Vooght Named Top RL Hurler

June's top hurler was Phil Vooght of Hammersmith. He shackled Republic League hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with a sparkling 6-0 mark.

The 28-year-old Vooght added 29 strikeouts in 43.2 innings and 7 walks to his season record and compiled a 1.44 ERA. Other clubs hit .214 against him.

Currently Vooght has a record of 10-1 with 81 strikeouts and 22 walks in 103.2 innings and a 3.04 ERA.

Baltimore's Vance CL Rookie of Month

Gavin Vance earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Baltimore center fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Vance hit .381 with 3 home runs, 18 RBIs and 14 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Presently Vance is batting .331 with 104 hits and 6 home runs. He has knocked in 42 runs and scored 38 times.

Bell Gets June's Rookie Trophy

Colorado's Lloyd Bell collected 33 hits to snare the Republic League Rookie of the Month for June.

He batted .303 with 3 home runs, 12 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

The 20-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

This season Bell has 7 home runs and a .307 batting average.

Baltimore's Rogers Top CL Batter in July

Snap, crackle and pop!
In July, Doug Rogers snapped up the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy by cracking 27 hits and popping 9 home runs.

For the month he hit a solid .281 with 23 RBIs and 19 runs scored. The Baltimore left fielder also picked up 6 walks to compile a .358 on-base percentage.

Currently Rogers has 22 home runs and a .300 batting average.

Ann Arbor's Rogers Snaps up July Batting Award

The top hitter in the Republic League in July was Ann Arbor first baseman Arthur Rogers.

He was selected the Batter of the Month after batting .328, hitting 8 home runs, scoring 16 runs and driving in 18.

In 87 games this season Rogers has compiled a .246 batting average with 69 hits and 19 home runs. He has also scored 49 times and knocked in 51 runs.

Gothams Alvarado July's Top Hurler

It was a monstrous July for the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award winner, Adrián Alvarado of the Baltimore Gothams. He put up some mighty scary numbers.

Alvarado recorded 4 wins and no losses in 6 starts. Throwing a total of 43.1 innings, he yielded 28 hits, mowed down 22 on strikes, gave up 6 walks and put up a solid ERA of 1.66 in a stellar month on the mound.

Up to now Alvarado has recorded a record of 10-8. In 25 starts he has fanned 89 batters in 162.1 innings with a 2.27 ERA.

RL Pitcher of the Month Goes to White

When the Rancheros skipper wrote White on the lineup card, it was a bad omen for the opposition. Outing after outing in July he took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 4-0 mark and 0.53 ERA in 5 starts. The gifted Rancheros star pitched 34 innings, fanned 27 and held opposing teams to a .174 average.

For his excellent mound work White was named the RL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

For the season White has compiled a 13-5 record with a 1.85 ERA.

Vance Named CL's Best Rookie

The best Continental League rookie in July was Baltimore's center fielder Gavin Vance.

He hit .307 with 31 hits, 2 home runs, 15 RBIs, and 10 runs scored. He also walked 3 times on his way to a .330 OBP.

So far this season Vance is hitting .325 with 8 home runs.

Lloyd Bell Named RL Rookie of Month

Lloyd Bell certainly made his presence felt in the Republic League in July. The gifted center fielder for Colorado ripped opposing pitchers for a .361 batting average and was the top votegetter for the Rookie of the Month trophy.

He won it by going 35-97 in 25 games with 3 home runs, 13 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Bell is batting .319 this year with 10 home runs, 54 RBIs and 62 runs scored. He has 139 hits in 436 at-bats.

Continental League Selects August's Best Batter

Fabián Gómez relied on a .377 average to become the Continental League Batter of the Month. He had a good August, going 40 for 106.

He finished with 3 home runs and 14 RBIs, scored 17 runs, and had a .445 on-base percentage.

Gómez is hitting .344 this year with 22 home runs and 87 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .393, 41 walks and scored 76 times.

Hartford's Allen Chosen RL Batter of the Month

A hot-hitting Charlie Allen punished RL pitchers in August, hitting .306 in 22 games while racking up 9 home runs, 20 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

With those numbers it came as no surprise that Hartford's 29-year-old center fielder earned Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

So far this season Allen is hitting .258 with 19 home runs, 67 RBIs and 61 runs scored. He has 102 hits in 396 at-bats and a .320 OBP.

August's Pitcher of the Month Goes to Deushi

Whether Robun Deushi stays in Napa Valley beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In August the 39-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 4-2 record and and an ERA of 2.23. In 40.1 innings he struck out 18, surrendered 35 hits, 3 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 7 starts last month.

So far in 33 appearances this season, Deushi has recorded 13 wins and sustained 10 losses. He has pitched 188.2 innings, yielded 192 hits, fanned 108 and has a 3.63 ERA.

Mata Collects RL Pitching Award

Alfonso Mata has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in August and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Bees bullpen ace collected 10 saves and 15 strikeouts in 13.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .191 average and posting a 0.68 ERA and a 2-0 record.

This year his season stats show Mata has 33 saves in 59 relief appearances with a 5-3 mark and 2.23 ERA.

Fennell Voted August's #1 Newcomer

In August, 23-year-old Barney Fennell swung a mighty big bat and bagged the Continental League Rookie of the Month award.

Last month he played in 28 games and hit .316 with 8 doubles, 1 triple, and 3 home runs. Fennell also scored 14 times and drove in 9 runs.

For the year Fennell is hitting .273 with 7 home runs. His stats include 53 runs batted in and 50 runs scored.

Bell Snags Rookie of Month Trophy

Lloyd Bell of the Colorado Rancheros has been chosen the top Rookie in the Republic League.

In August he racked up 38 hits, 2 home runs, 17 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He hit .317 with a .339 OBP.

Wow, what a disappointing end for the Hooligans. Started off 51-30 and finished 35-46. I can't say it is all that surprising, since my team was definitely overachieving at the start (as the Pyth record showed). Still, such a sharp reversal record is a bit of a shock.

He tacked up a 1.01 ERA in his 7 starts, tossing 44.2 innings and striking out 22. His record this season is 7-10 in 20 starts and Field has a 2.76 ERA. Vooght Named Top RL Hurler Thursday, July 1st, 2184 June's top hurler was Phil Vooght of Hammersmith. He shackled Republic League hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with a sparkling 6-0 mark. He hit .307 with 31 hits, 2 home runs, 15 RBIs, and 10 runs scored. He also walked 3 times on his way to a .330 OBP. So far this season Vance is hitting .325 with 8 home runs. Lloyd Bell Named RL Rookie of Month Sunday, August 1st, 2184 Lloyd Bell certainly made his presence felt in the Republic League in July. The gifted center fielder for Colorado ripped opposing pitchers for a .361 batting average and was the top votegetter for the Rookie of the Month trophy. He won it by going 35-97 in 25 games with 3 home runs, 13 RBIs and 16 runs scored. Bell is batting .319 this year with 10 home runs, 54 RBIs and 62 runs scored. He had a good August, going 40 for 106. He finished with 3 home runs and 14 RBIs, scored 17 runs, and had a .445 on-base percentage. Gómez is hitting .344 this year with 22 home runs and 87 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .393, 41 walks and scored 76 times. Hartford's Allen Chosen RL Batter of the Month Wednesday, September 1st, 2184 A hot-hitting Charlie Allen punished RL pitchers in August, hitting .306 in 22 games while racking up 9 home runs, 20 RBIs and 18 runs scored. With those numbers it came as no surprise that Hartford's 29-year-old center fielder earned Republic League Batter of the Month honors. So far this season Allen is hitting .258 with 19 home runs, 67 RBIs and 61 runs scored. In August the 39-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award. He put up some fancy numbers with a 4-2 record and and an ERA of 2.23. In 40.1 innings he struck out 18, surrendered 35 hits, 3 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 7 starts last month. So far in 33 appearances this season, Deushi has recorded 13 wins and sustained 10 losses. He has pitched 188.2 innings, yielded 192 hits, fanned 108 and has a 3.63 ERA. Mata Collects RL Pitching Award Wednesday, September 1st, 2184 Alfonso Mata has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in August and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award. The Bees bullpen ace collected 10 saves and 15 strikeouts in 13.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .191 average and posting a 0.68 ERA and a 2-0 record. Last month he played in 28 games and hit .316 with 8 doubles, 1 triple, and 3 home runs. Fennell also scored 14 times and drove in 9 runs. For the year Fennell is hitting .273 with 7 home runs. His stats include 53 runs batted in and 50 runs scored. Bell Snags Rookie of Month Trophy Wednesday, September 1st, 2184 Lloyd Bell of the Colorado Rancheros has been chosen the top Rookie in the Republic League. In August he racked up 38 hits, 2 home runs, 17 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He hit .317 with a .339 OBP. I can't say it is all that surprising, since my team was definitely overachieving at the start (as the Pyth record showed). Still, such a sharp reversal record is a bit of a shock.
