Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 32-year-old Dick Waters put together a solid offensive month for Halifax and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .350 with 9 home runs, 21 RBIs and 22 runs scored.


Guillermo Sánchez Named Best RL Batter in April

Guillermo Sánchez battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 31-year-old Sánchez told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Sánchez hit .347 with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 21 runs.

Continental League Announces April's Top Pitcher

Veteran Jerry Earle put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Noblesville Millers, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Earle racked up a 4-1 record in 6 starts, posting a 2.16 ERA over 41.2 innings and striking out 26.


Best Starter Chosen by Republic League

Robun Deushi took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors in April. After all these years playing ball, the 37-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 5-1 for Omaha last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.31 ERA in his 6 starts, tossing 41.1 innings and striking out 23.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

John Bailey's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Cleveland second baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .306 with 4 doubles, 2 triples and 2 home runs. Bailey also scored 19 times and drove in 13 runs.

Torrid May Gets McCutcheon CL #1 Batter Trophy

Baltimore right fielder Jeff McCutcheon certainly turned heads in May with some impressive numbers. He batted .364 for the month and was voted the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He banged 7 home runs, collected 18 RBIs, scored 23 times and put up a .386 on-base percentage.

Thus far this year McCutcheon has hit .305 with 8 home runs and 29 RBIs.


Hammersmith's Montés Winner, RL Best Hitter in May

On the heels of a very productive May, Francisco Montés received Republic League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested second baseman hit .417 for the Hammersmith Hooligans and racked up 5 home runs, 23 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Hitting .320 to date, Montés has 7 home runs and 33 RBIs. He has played in 34 games.

CL Relief Ace Gross Named Best Hurler

Zachary Gross was the anchor in the Leduc bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for May. The 32-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 16.1 innings over 15 relief appearances and collected a 6-0 record with 13 strikeouts and no saves while etching his 2.20 ERA.

For the season Gross has made 27 relief appearances, recorded no saves, compiled a 6-0 won-lost mark and a 2.60 ERA. In pitching 34.2 innings, he has totaled 36 strikeouts and 14 walks.


Smith RL Winner, Top Hurler in May

There's something about a young rookie winning the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Howard Smith, a 22-year-old starter for the Hartford Riverhawks.

In May, he topped off the month with a 4-0 mark and 1.78 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 35.1 innings, fanned 24 and held opposing teams to a .224 average.

This year Smith has fashioned a 4-6 mark, 5.86 ERA and pitched 55.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .323 against him and he has logged 36 strikeouts.

Miranda Wins Rookie of the Month

Júlio Miranda earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Halifax shortstop might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Miranda hit .313 with 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 15 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

In his season totals Miranda has 1 home run and a .293 batting average.


May's Best Newcomer Named by RL

Enrico Mejía was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old center fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 24 games Mejía batted .305 for Montreal, slapping 25 hits in 82 at-bats with 5 home runs, drove in 20 runs and scored 13 times.

In the current season, Mejía has put up a .256 batting average with 41 hits, 8 home runs, 28 RBI and scored 25 runs.

CL Top Batter Trophy Won by Wada

Snap, crackle and pop!
In June, Kinzo Wada snapped up the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy by cracking 42 hits and popping 9 home runs.

For the month he hit a solid .382 with 16 RBIs and 21 runs scored. The Napa Valley first baseman also picked up 6 walks to compile a .433 on-base percentage.

To date, Wada has collected 105 hits for a .308 average. He has posted 18 home runs, scored 51 runs and driven in 39 runs.


June's RL Batter of Month Award Announced

It was a good month for Omaha Bees center fielder Jonathan Conner, June's Republic League Batter of the Month.

Conner starred by hitting .425 with a .500 on-base percentage. He totaled 48 hits in 113 at-bats, no home runs, 15 RBIs and scored 22 runs.

Conner is hitting at a .330 mark this season. His stats show no home runs, 30 RBIs and 56 runs scored. He has played 83 games for the Bees.

Winter Wolves Hurler Named June's Top Starter

Whether Bill McGuigan stays in Halifax beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In June the 31-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 5-0 record and and an ERA of 2.48. In 40 innings he struck out 21, surrendered 37 hits, 6 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 5 starts last month.

So far this year McGuigan has compiled a 10-4 record with a 3.69 ERA.


RL Pick for Top Pitcher in June is Robison

Ann Arbor starter Dave Robison really put the chill on opposing teams in June and today was acclaimed the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and 1.73 ERA in 5 starts. In 36.1 innings, he fanned 20 and walked 5.

This year Robison has worked 121 innings with 66 strikeouts en route to a 7-5 record and 3.05 ERA.

Cleveland Rookie Hits His Way to CL Honor

Youngster John Bailey emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Cleveland deserved the honor, batting .364 with 1 home run and 15 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Bailey enjoy the limelight.

In 81 games this season Bailey is batting .312 with 104 hits and 5 home runs. He has scored 49 runs and driven in 34.


Ann Arbor Rookie Humbles RL Hitters

Yes, Roberto Ruíz is just a rookie. But he is a special rookie. Today the 21-year-old Ann Arbor starter was awarded the Republic League Rookie of the Month trophy for his standout performance in June.

He dominated the rookie class, registering 3 wins and no losses in 6 starts with 32 strikeouts in 45.2 innings and a 1.58 ERA.

Not bad for a first-year man.

So far this year Ruíz has a 7-2 record with a 3.92 ERA.

Abulhe Wins Best Bat Award in July

When it came to hitting the baseball, Rodrige Abulhe had few Continental League peers in July. The right fielder for Napa Valley mauled opposing pitchers for a .356 batting average and was voted the league's best batter for the month.

He finished with some strong stats: 8 home runs, 15 RBIs, 15 runs scored, 8 walks and a .414 on-base percentage.

This year Abulhe has hit 28 home runs and posted a .304 batting average

Eric Haas had quite a month with the bat in July and the Hammersmith right fielder was crowned Republic League Batter of the Month for his outstanding efforts.

To win the honor, he batted .294 with 32 hits, 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He also drew 17 walks to post a .408 on-base percentage.

This season Haas has hit at a .310 clip with 53 RBIs, 15 home runs and 76 runs scored.

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Nate Mitchell still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in July. The 31-year-old starter for Cleveland was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 32 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.10 ERA in 41 innings of work.

This season Mitchell has compiled a 9-9 mark, 3.29 ERA and made 27 starts.


Montreal's Nava Top Pitcher in July

The hottest hurler in the Republic League last month was Manny Nava of the Montreal Royals. He caught the attention of everybody in the league with some eye-catching stats, good enough to win the RL Pitcher of the Month.

John Bailey is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the Cleveland hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .327 average with 34 hits, no home runs and 8 RBIs.

This season Bailey is batting .316 with 42 RBIs, 68 runs scored and 5 home runs.


Harris Voted July's Rookie Award

John Harris certainly made his presence felt in the Republic League in July. The gifted catcher for Hammersmith ripped opposing pitchers for a .291 batting average and was the top votegetter for the Rookie of the Month trophy.

Roy Ivey was declared the Continental League Batter of the Month today. Brooklyn's center fielder stroked 38 hits in 98 at-bats for a .388 average in August.

Robbins Nabs CL #1 Pitcher Award

Dan Robbins nailed down August's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Apex to get a deal done before the 33-year-old becomes a free agent.

Robbins seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 4-1 record, reeled off 23 strikeouts, worked 36.1 innings and held batters to a .177 average for the month as he posted a 1.24 ERA.

This season Robbins has registered 10 wins and 7 losses in 27 starts with a 2.25 ERA.

I honestly have no idea how this team is doing it...It's not nearly as strong as the previous ridiculous dynasty because that team was also stacked in pitching...This team is soley hitting.

Well I guess my strong starting rotation carried the team, with a few excellent hitters backing that up. I honestly thought we were more of a 80+ win team with the relievers and left side of the infield we put out there.
