I Have a Dream
So here's my dream, how possible is it?
As many here know, I graduated from WVU and my fav professional team is the Jaguars. Here's my dream. With WVU, Geno Smith continues to rule, and WVU ends up in an BCS bowl game of some sort and Smith with the Heisman. His mechanics are advance,d and he's a very cerebral passer that predicts well to the NFL. Meanwhile, my Jags continue to suck it up, with a lot of bad losses and fir the first time with Jags history earn the #1 overall pick. The consensus best pick is Geno Smith, and the Jags happily take him. Then Geno Smith, along with good players such as Marcedes Lewis, Maurice Jones Drew and Justin Blackmon has an immediate impact on the team and evolves into a franchises quarterback in two years, and the Jags add some weapons and become a nasty offense. And one of my favorite players at my alma mater, WVU, my Mountaineers will become the savior of my Jags. This is my dream.

This isn't rellly coming in and thread crapping. This is like ripping the still beating heart out of the dream for a Mortal Kombat-esque fatality. Ouch. SI

The bigger question is what were they thinking when they drafted Gabbert? I am a huge Mizzou fan and have no idea where that hype came from. I forget was mustache the owner at that point? Once again the NFL "experts" look at size and arm strength over any actual accomlishments. |

Going to be really tough to beat out Cleveland for the first pick.

Isn't it also hard to get a team to draft a 40-year old QB in the first round?

It is a tough call. Right now, I'd probably rank themL Pat White > Geno Smith > Major Harris White currently gets the nod from his bowl record (only starting QB to ever go 4-0 in bowl games and two were BCS wins) and the fact that he was the starter for almost all of career (I think he won the job in the fifth game of his freshman season). All time rushing leader for an NCAA FBS QB (Robinson will almost certainly break the record this season, though), as well. He was never an AA (but played in an era with some really great college QBs). Major was the most exciting player I've ever seen at WVU, an All-American, a college football hall of gamer and led WVU to a "championship" appearance. But he only played 3 seasons and never won a bowl game, so I dock him there. Barring an injury or collapse, Geno surpasses him this season because of his ridiculous numbers and the chance that he could be an All-American and possible Heisman winner this year. He has one BCS win and one gruesome bowl loss. He gets some points from me for going through a pretty brutal coaching transition and being successful under two head coaches. Oddly, I feel like I can think of 5-10 memorable plays from White and Major, but I have trouble thinking of even one or two from Geno. |

Yeah the moustache guy is actually a University of Illinois guy and tried to buy the Rams before he bought the Jags. I could see that happening. I would love to have an AFC team here anyways (not sure I would love to have the Jags but it would be a start) |

If the Browns finish with the worst record, Holmgren will be out and the new guy will want to start fresh. Weeden isn't ever going to be a top starter. They would have to pick Smith or Barkley(whichever one is more likely to bust).

Abe, would it even matter to you if the team moved? As far as I know, you have more of a connection to the team, instead of the city.

I don't get this kind of crap. Why not just move the Jags to LA? Well, because the Rams should be in LA. WTF? Just like allowing an owner to move the Browns from Cleveland to Baltimore only to give Cleveland another team. If Cleveland deserves a team, why let the Browns move? Leave them in Cleveland and let the owner have an expansion team in Baltimore. Just like allowing an owner to move the Oilers from Houston to Tennessee only to give Houston another team. If Houston deserves a team, why let the Oilers move? Leave them in Houston and let the owner have an expansion team in Tennessee. Same damn thing in the NBA. Why let the Hornets leave Charlotte only to give them another team a few years down the road? Makes no fucking sense. I have an idea. Every year, let's have a city draft where the cities re-pick their teams.

I think that there are probably 5-6 markets that just suck for football right now and those cities shouldn't have teams anymore. Even if that means something like we end up with 2 LA teams or another Chicago team. Tampa Bay, San Diego, and Jacksonville(skirting the rules right now) routinely get blacked out. Buffalo will get blacked out on occasion and plays in a dumpy stadium. I've been there...it's horrible. All of these places that can't routinely sell out don't deserve to have a team anymore. |

I just think the Rams want out & St. Louis isn't going to give them what they want. Then once they lose the team they'll get into desperation mode. Enter the next free agent team... Probably to be rechristened. Hopefully it's not the "Stallions," looking like purple/gold/black Broncos. |

When did they change MSAs to CSAs?
That said, MSA/CSA are a much better measure than literal city population. Just because half of St Louis or Kansas City or Pittsburgh or any other city moved out to the suburbs doesn't make those people any less part of those cities for these purposes. SI

For my PoliSci class on Public Admin intro, I usually taught on decision making, and instead of spending a lecture or discussion on Rational Decision Making, I would take ten cities, copy their demos, and then have my class choose which two cities should get the next two expansion teams for the 50 minute class. They'd suggest a factor to look at, I;d give htem the details, and we'd talk about which is more important, and then they'd vote. Afterwards, i'd discuss how that was exactly like rdm.

If we're talking about pure ability then Geno, Major, White IMO. Now if we're talking the impact made on the program then it's Major>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>everyone else. It would be hard for any player to match what Major did for WVU football. It's something that's often overlooked by our fans in the "new era" of WVU football. By those MSAs, top relocation candidates:
Oakland- T6 (with SF) for largest NFL market San Diego- 19th St. Louis- 21st Jacksonville- >30th By the numbers, LA should be able to support 2 teams (and the NFL seems to think the same). I wonder which market the Jags might convince to give them a new stadium... |
