Soto Garners CL Batter of the Month Award

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 30-year-old Jesús Soto put together a solid offensive month for Napa Valley and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .379 with 6 home runs, 19 RBIs and 16 runs scored.


Kokura Earns April's Top Batter Prize in RL

Ryushi Kokura battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Kokura told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 26 games, Kokura hit .333 with 5 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 18 runs.

Millers Reliever Cops Pitching Award

Randy Stafford is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Continental League Pitcher of the Month for April.

He made 14 relief appearances for Noblesville last month, throwing 15 innings and collecting 8 saves, a 1-0 record, 12 strikeouts and a 1.20 ERA.


Republic League Announces #1 Starter

Nicholas Burton's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in April, the 36-year-old Hammersmith hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 33 in 39 innings, logged an ERA of 2.54 and allowed opponents to hit .267 against him.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

Youngster Charlie Allen emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Brooklyn deserved the honor, batting .357 with 4 home runs and 11 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Allen enjoy the limelight.

Abel Baldwin is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Toronto hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .360 average with 31 hits, 1 home run and 19 RBIs.

Windus Takes CL's Best Bat Award

Graham Windus is in the final year of his contract with Noblesville and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 28 games in May the 35-year-old left fielder ripped Continental League pitchers for a .379 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award.

He also rang up 10 home runs, 30 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

If Windus keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money.

Windus is batting .358 this season in 51 games with 11 home runs, 43 RBIs and 41 runs scored. He has 68 hits in 190 at-bats.


RL Best Hitter Award to Omaha's Tom Burkett

When Tom Burkett stepped up to the plate in May, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The young Omaha catcher posted a .330 batting average with 8 home runs, 18 RBIs and scored 21 runs. Burkett also worked pitchers for 4 walks to post a .359 on-base percentage.

This year Burkett is hitting .320 with 13 home runs and 31 RBIs in 50 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .349 with 7 walks and 37 runs scored.

Herrera Is CL's Best Pitcher in May

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Jorge Herrera still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 25-year-old starter for Baltimore was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 29 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 1.50 ERA in 36 innings of work.

For the season Herrera has compiled a 7-3 record with a 2.52 ERA.


May's #1 Hurler Announced: White

Brad White has made fans throughout Front Office Offseason League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 5-0 record. No pitcher in the Republic League threw better in May, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 6 starts White compiled a 1.82 ERA, putting up a 5-0 record, striking out 22 and tossing 39.2 innings.

White has a 7-2 season record so far. In 11 starts, he has fanned 54 batters in 73.2 innings with a 2.69 ERA.

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, José García just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 20-year-old right fielder for Noblesville hit .280 with 30 hits, 6 home runs and 17 RBI. He also logged 8 walks and compiled a .384 on-base percentage.

So far this year García is hitting .264 with 9 home runs.


Toronto Newcomer May's #1 Rookie

Bradley Crowned Top CL Hitter in June

Mark Bradley feasted on Continental League pitching in June and today he walked off with the Batter of the Month award.

The Cleveland first baseman rapped out a .378 batting average while collecting 34 hits, 8 home runs, 23 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Thus far this year Bradley is hitting .299 with 15 home runs, 48 RBIs and 34 runs scored.


Hernández Takes Best Bat Award in June

The premier hitter in the Republic League in June was Colorado first baseman Juan Hernández. For his standout play, he was voted the Batter of the Month.

Hernández was selected after batting .342, hitting 9 home runs, scoring 12 runs and driving in 29.

Hernández is presently batting .293 with 20 home runs, 37 runs scored and 67 RBIs. His OBP is .346.

June's Starter of the Month Goes to Field

Veteran Alan Field put together quite a successful stretch in June for the Halifax Winter Wolves, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Field racked up a 5-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 1.21 ERA over 37.1 innings and striking out 29.

On the season Field has 9 wins and 4 losses and a 3.13 ERA.


Colorado Starter Named RL's Top Pitcher

When Brad White takes the hill, chances are good for a Colorado victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-1 mark and 1.75 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 36 innings, fanned 34 and held others clubs to a .241 average.

That's why the Rancheros star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

In 16 starts this season White has crafted a 11-3 record with a 2.38 ERA.

Ray Wallace earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Baltimore shortstop might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Wallace hit .340 with no home runs, 17 RBIs and 9 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Wallace on the season is batting .316 with no home runs. His totals include 36 RBIs and 32 runs scored. He has played in 76 games.


Red-Hot Toronto Rookie Rated RL's Best

Abel Baldwin moved to the head of the class today as the 23-year-old first baseman for Toronto bagged the Republic League Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Red-Hot July Lands Gómez Batting Prize in CL

In the last year of his deal with Noblesville, Fabián Gómez has created some waves by winning July's Continental League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .369 batting average with 8 home runs, 26 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 9 walks and a .417 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 25-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

Gómez is batting .339 this season in 99 games with 25 home runs, 77 RBIs and 75 runs scored. He has 131 hits in 387 at-bats.


Rivera Claims RL Batter of the Month Award

Ramón Rivera walked away with the Republic League Batter of the Month award for his solid work with the stick in July.

The Colorado right fielder hit .443 with 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

This year Rivera is hitting .336 with 16 home runs and 66 RBIs in 99 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .419 with 39 walks and 66 runs scored.

Garza Voted Best CL Pitcher in July

Whether Roberto Garza stays in Noblesville beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In July the 32-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 5-0 record and and an ERA of 2.50. In 36 innings he struck out 20, surrendered 30 hits, 6 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 5 starts last month.

This season Garza has compiled a 10-4 mark with a 3.47 ERA.


RL Pitcher of the Month Goes to Richard

Jay Richard has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in July and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Hooligans bullpen ace collected 6 saves and 14 strikeouts in 12.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .186 average and posting a 1.42 ERA and a 3-1 record.

This year Richard has made 41 relief appearances and saved 25. His record is 4-4 with 45 strikeouts in 44 innings and a 3.68 ERA.

July's Best Rookie In a Class by Himself

Noblesville's José García collected 35 hits to snare the Continental League Rookie of the Month for July.

He batted .357 with 7 home runs, 26 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

The 20-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

García has a .281 average and a .360 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 109 hits, 19 home runs and driven in 59 runs.


Baldwin Chosen RL's Best Newcomer

When all the votes were counted for the Rookie of the Month in July, Abel Baldwin of the Toronto Marlboros was on top of the pile. The standout first baseman rifled hits here, there, and everywhere in Republic League ballparks the entire month to win the honor.

The 23-year-old first baseman took the trophy by putting up a .375 average and .419 on-base percentage, 36 hits, 4 home runs, 12 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

This season Baldwin is batting .336 with 14 home runs. He has scored 65 runs and driven in 64.

He was selected the Batter of the Month after batting .318, hitting 9 home runs, scoring 28 runs and driving in 27.

The Continental League scribes have announced August's Pitcher of the Month and have given the award to Jorge Herrera of Baltimore. He was one tough cookie on the mound last month with a fine 5-0 mark to prove it.

The Baltimore star made 5 starts with a 2.43 ERA and surrendered 34 hits in 37 innings. He struck out 45 and walked 3.

So far this year Herrera has compiled a 19-5 record with a 2.87 ERA.


Riverhawks López August's #1 Pitcher

Máximo López was the anchor in the Hartford bullpen last month and snatched up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors for August. The 27-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 14.2 innings over 15 relief appearances and collected a 1-0 record with 20 strikeouts and 10 saves while etching his 1.23 ERA.

This season Máximo López has been credited with 25 saves. In 50 relief appearances and 52 innings pitched, he has a 2-3 won-lost mark, 1.38 ERA and 68 strikeouts

Continental League Picks September's Best Batter

There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Fabián Gómez helped his contract negotiations by nabbing September's Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

The Noblesville shortstop put together a .424 batting average with 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Gómez continues at this brisk pace.

Gómez is hitting at a .366 mark this season. His stats show 31 home runs, 109 RBIs and 114 runs scored. He has played 150 games for the Millers.


Sánchez Wins RL Batter of the Month

Colorado center fielder Guillermo Sánchez put the wraps on a fine September by capturing the Republic League Batter of the Month honors today.

He put up a .421 batting average and .509 on-base percentage last month while racking up 7 home runs, 17 RBIs, 21 runs scored and 15 walks.

Sánchez is hitting .311 in 2181 with 71 RBIs and 20 home runs.

Baltimore's Herrera CL Top Pitcher

The top-rated pitcher this past month in the Continental League was Jorge Herrera of the Baltimore Gothams. He really dominated league hitters, finishing September with a 5-0 won-lost mark and a 1.40 ERA.

The Gothams ace made 5 starts and surrendered 34 hits in 38.2 innings. He struck out 37 and walked 7.

Currently Herrera has a 24-5 won-lost record in 31 starts with a 2.62 ERA. He also has 197 strikeouts in 226.2 innings.


Relief Star Wins RL Top Pitcher Honors

Jay Richard had a super September and has been rewarded with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month Award. The Hammersmith relief specialist was very effective, constantly coming in and getting his club out of trouble or protecting a one-run or two-run lead.

the Hammersmith bullpen ace starred with 10 saves in 12 relief appearances, logging 12.2 innings, 16 strikeouts, 1 walk and a 0.00 ERA. Richard finished the month with 1 win and no losses -- and was named the league's top pitcher.

On the year Richard has recorded 41 saves. In 63 relief appearances, he has 68 strikeouts in 66.2 innings with a 3.11 ERA. His season won-lost mark is 5-7.

Noblesville Right Fielder Best Rookie

José García was voted the Continental League Rookie of the Month award for his standout play in September.

The 20-year-old Noblesville right fielder batted .260, hit 7 home runs and drove in 20 runs. He also tagged 25 hits, scored 14 runs and picked up 10 walks for a .366 on-base percentage.

For the season García is batting .271 with 158 hits and 32 home runs. He has scored 94 times and batted in 95.


McKnight Named RL's Best Rookie

Joseph McKnight of the Colorado Rancheros has been honored as the top Rookie in the Republic League.

In September he delivered 23 hits, 3 home runs, 13 RBIs and 11 runs scored. He hit .354 with a .425 OBP.

McKnight is batting .295 this year with 6 home runs, 56 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He has 122 hits in 413 at-bats.

Good to get back in the playoffs after a year out. Kind of a strange season for my team though, not sure what to make of some of the numbers. Some guys performed way too good and others way under performed.

We missed Pancho's power, but was very happy with the platoon I replaced him with, ended up making up the difference in performance.

I still have yet to solve my fielding and pitching wishes though after 4 seasons. I might have to think about plan B here due to lack of player availability.

Alan, when Pancho was a young pup just reaching the bigs with the Hooligans organization, he and just recently departed Bill Jarvis led some of the best offensive teams I have ever put together. And I won more often than not because of that.

But it was a REAL struggle to get good pitching and fit them under the cap. For years, my rotation was Nicholas Burton and Elton Broadhead and whomever else I could scrape up. And they weren't the first--I have always been able to put together a good offense in this park, but acquiring the pitchers is an issue that went back another generation before that.

I can't remember the last time I had even four guys who were above average or better.

I am seeing that. I pretty much have 2 Starting pitchers and 12 relief pitchers on my team. Reminds me of the old Braves days of Spahn and Sain.
