Continental League Picks Top Rookie

Today the Continental League announced the winner of the 2179 Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award. The top-ranked rookie was the talented Brooklyn shortstop Yoriie Nemoto.

The 24-year-old Brownstones newcomer took the trophy by hitting .291 in 162 games this season and finished with 180 hits, 13 home runs, 61 RBIs and 93 runs scored.


RL's Best Rookie Proclaimed

Robinson Vázquez started his Republic League career in style, capping it off with the Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award for 2179.

The left fielder for the Omaha Bees played in 151 games, hitting .269 with 138 hits. He totaled 26 home runs, 89 RBIs and 75 runs scored.

Herrera Takes Home CL Gabriel Prado Award

The Gabriel Prado Award for 2179 has been presented and the Continental League winner is Jorge Herrera of Baltimore.

"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Herrera. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Gothams star told reporters.

Herrera excelled with an impressive 19-4 record in 32 starts. In 221 innings he yielded 167 hits and 62 walks, while striking out 204 and compiling a fine 2.00 ERA.


Colorado Star James Cops Gabriel Prado Award

Andrew James had a spectacular year for Colorado in 2179, putting up 17 wins for the Rancheros to walk away with the Republic League Gabriel Prado Award trophy.

He finished the season with a 17-2 mark, 200 strikeouts and a 2.57 ERA. In 32 starts James surrendered 171 hits and 41 walks in 214 innings on the mound.

Edwards Selected CL's Best Hitter

2179 was an outstanding year for Halifax catcher Oscar Edwards and it was capped off today by the announcement that he is the winner of the Continental League Hideaki Tanaka Award.

This season Edwards compiled a .269 batting average and a .396 on-base percentage. In 159 games he delivered 155 hits, including 36 doubles, 2 triples and 30 home runs. He finished the year with 108 RBIs and 99 runs scored.

The Republic League has selected its Hideaki Tanaka Award for 2179 and the honor went to Francisco Muñóz, Hammersmith's fine first baseman.

He starred this season with a .316 batting average, 203 hits, 33 home runs, 133 RBIs, .381 OBP and 109 runs scored.

This was one of the stronger drafts I have seen in a long while, and there were a ton of Type A free agents out there. I was very curious to see how many of the better teams (non-protected firsts) would be willing to forgo a good pick in this draft to sign a Type A. Definitely an opportunity for lower end teams (with protected firsts) to load up on some of those types.
