Gómez Top Hitter in CL in April

When Fabián Gómez stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Noblesville shortstop posted a .371 batting average with 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 19 runs. Gómez also worked pitchers for 12 walks to post a .441 on-base percentage.

Jarvis Wins RL's Best Bat Award

Bill Jarvis battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Jarvis told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 23 games, Jarvis hit .348 with 8 home runs, 36 RBIs and scored 22 runs.

Field Nets CL #1 Pitcher Award

Veteran Alan Field put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Halifax Winter Wolves, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Field racked up a 5-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.85 ERA over 39 innings and striking out 24.

Martínez Garners RL #1 Pitcher Award

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Vicente Martínez still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 35-year-old starter for Hartford was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 36 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.37 ERA in 46 innings of work.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

Ron Norton earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Apex left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Norton hit .371 with 5 home runs, 11 RBIs and 9 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Robinson Vázquez's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Omaha left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .329 with 8 doubles, no triples and 6 home runs. Vázquez also scored 14 times and drove in 16 runs.

Ine Wins CL Prize, Named Best Hitter in May
Tuesday, June 1st, 2179
Halifax left fielder Shiro Ine took home the Continental League Batter of the Month Trophy for May.

He put up some solid numbers, including a .379 batting average and .390 on-base percentage with 39 hits, 8 home runs, 15 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Currently Ine has 14 home runs and a .325 batting average.

Jarvis Takes Best Bat Award in May

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 29-year-old Bill Jarvis put together a solid offensive month for Hammersmith and was crowned May's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .297 with 10 home runs, 33 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Hitting .319 to date, Jarvis has 18 home runs and 69 RBIs. He has played in 51 games.

Davis Collects CL Pitching Award

Randy Davis has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Winemakers bullpen ace collected 7 saves and 7 strikeouts in 15.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .273 average and posting a 2.35 ERA and a 3-0 record.

This year Davis has 12 saves with a 4-0 won-lost mark and 1.98 ERA.

RL Pitcher of the Month Goes to Luna

Sancho Luna is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for May.

He made no relief appearances for Ann Arbor last month, throwing 43 innings and collecting no saves, a 5-1 record, 32 strikeouts and a 2.93 ERA.

For the season Luna has made no relief appearances, recorded no saves and compiled a 6-3 won-lost mark and a 3.88 ERA. In pitching 67.1 innings, he has totaled 49 strikeouts and 10 walks.

CL Rookie Vote Goes to Torres

Luis Torres is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Noblesville hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .362 average with 25 hits, 6 home runs and 21 RBIs.

Torres's current batting average stands at .343 and he has chalked up 7 home runs and 26 RBIs.

Sandoval Tabbed RL's Top Rookie
Tuesday, June 1st, 2179
Youngster Pedro Sandoval emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Montreal deserved the honor, batting .347 with 5 home runs and 15 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Sandoval enjoy the limelight.

Thus far this year Sandoval has hit .307 with 8 home runs and 21 RBIs.

Continental League Selects June's Best Batter

Robinson Romero is in the final year of his contract with Noblesville and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 27 games in June the 28-year-old left fielder ripped Continental League pitchers for a .339 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award.

He also rang up 7 home runs, 15 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

If Romero keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money.

This season Romero is hitting .248 with 12 home runs.

Hartford's Ramírez Top RL Batter in June

Héctor Ramírez of the Riverhawks hit .296 in June with 6 home runs, 21 RBIs and 17 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 32-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise.

In his season totals, Ramírez has 12 home runs, .278 BA, .397 OBP, 54 RBIs and 50 runs scored. He has played in 76 games.

CL Announces June's Best Starter
Thursday, July 1st, 2179
The Continental League named the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award.
It went to Jorge Herrera of Baltimore Gothams, who impressed the voters with a glittering 5-0 record in June.

The Baltimore star hurler made 5 starts, allowed 36 hits in 39.2 innings, struck out 37 and had a 1.13 ERA.

In 16 starts this season Herrera has fashioned a 11-1 record and a 1.78 ERA.

Montoya Named Top RL Hurler

Jesús Montoya's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 3-0 in June, the 30-year-old Colorado hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 30 in 30 innings, logged an ERA of 0.90 and allowed opponents to hit .188 against him.

To this point in the season, Montoya shows a 7-4 record, 16 starts, 96.1 innings, 89 strikeouts and a 2.90 ERA.

High on the Hit Parade, Crippen Voted #1 Rookie

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Justin Crippen just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 23-year-old third baseman for Halifax hit .420 with 21 hits, no home runs and 8 RBI. He also logged 2 walks and compiled a .434 on-base percentage.

This season in 64 games Crippen is batting .298 with 1 home run, 15 RBIs and has scored 16 times.

June's Best Rookie Named by RL

Lúcio Santos wreaked havoc on Republic League pitching last month and led the charge for the Rookie of the Month Award.

In June he batted .314 for the Royals, lashing 38 hits and 1 home run. The Montreal right fielder also drove in 12 runs and scored 14 times to round out a most impressive month.

So far on the season Santos is hitting .301 with 5 home runs, 28 RBIs and 38 runs scored. He has 98 hits and played in 78 games.

Hobbs Awarded July's CL Top Bat Prize

Terry Hobbs really smoked the ball in July on his way to Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League.

The Brooklyn catcher hit .359 with 8 home runs, 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored to round out his great month.

For the year Hobbs is batting .307 with 18 home runs.

July's Premier Batter Announced

July's Hitter of the Month has been selected by the Republic League. This month's trophy was presented to the Hammersmith first baseman, Francisco Muñóz.

He starred by hitting .373 with a .435 on-base percentage, totaled 38 hits in 102 at-bats, 6 home runs, 22 RBIs and scored 21 runs.

So far this season Muñóz has put up a .299 batting average with 116 hits, 20 home runs and 79 RBIs.

CL Honors July's #1 Pitcher

The Continental League announced the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award for July.

It went to Robert Campbell of Apex for his outstanding 4-1 record and 2.50 ERA.

Campbell also chalked up 5 starts, 36 innings and 28 strikeouts.

In 20 starts this season, Campbell has recorded 6 wins and absorbed 9 losses. He has pitched 122.2 innings, allowed 119 hits, struck out 80 and has a 5.36 ERA.

Hooligans Burton July's #1 Pitcher

Nicholas Burton of Hammersmith excelled on the mound in July with a 3-1 record and was named the Pitcher of the Month in the Republic League.

Burton restricted opposing batters to 34 base hits and a .241 batting average. He rang up 24 strikeouts in 37 innings of work, surrendered 10 walks, and fashioned a 2.19 ERA.

So far this season Burton has compiled a 10-7 record with a 3.57 ERA.

Rookie Swinger Scores Big in July

Whenever Brownstones center fielder Roy Ivey stepped into the batter's box last month, the 24-year-old meant business. With his .342 average he virtually ran away with the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

He collected 27 hits in July with 8 home runs, 19 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Ivey is presently hitting at a .288 pace with 25 home runs and 65 RBIs. He has played in 86 games and scored 54 times.

Vázquez Grades Out as July's Top Rookie

In July, Omaha left fielder Robinson Vázquez took the Republic League Rookie of the Month honors.

Arturo Clemente Winner in August

One of the more consistent batters in August, Napa Valley catcher Arturo Clemente grabbed Continental League Batter of the Month honors by hitting .319 with 30 hits in 94 at-bats.

He racked up 11 home runs and 24 RBIs, scored 19 runs.

So far in 2179 Clemente is batting .248 with 29 home runs, 74 RBIs and 56 runs scored. He has 110 hits in 443 at-bats and a .309 OBP.

August's Best RL Hitter is Arthur Rogers

Arthur Rogers let his bat do the talking in August and the Republic League heard him loud and clear. He made plenty of noise as he put together a .384 batting average and was named the top hitter of the month.

Rogers's month to remember saw him accumulate 38 hits, 12 home runs, 24 runs batted in, 20 runs, 9 walks and a .450 on-base percentage.

Currently Rogers has 29 home runs and a .306 batting average.

CL Choice for Batter of the Month is Montés
Friday, October 1st, 2179
In the last year of his deal with Brooklyn, Francisco Montés has created some waves by winning September's Continental League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .340 batting average with 5 home runs, 16 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 6 walks and a .398 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 30-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

On the season, Montés is batting .303 with 18 home runs and 83 RBIs. He has played in 152 games.

Burch Crowned Top RL Hitter in September

Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and Jeff Burch is no exception. The Hammersmith right fielder capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Republic League.

In September Burch hit .350 with 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

So far this season Burch is hitting .275 with 21 home runs, 82 RBIs and 105 runs scored. He has 150 hits in 546 at-bats and a .366 OBP.

Earle Wins CL Top Pitcher Honors

As Jerry Earle hoisted up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy for September, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Noblesville once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Earle put pressure on the Millers to keep him around by posting a 3-1 record and an ERA of 1.24 over 36.1 innings last month. He also rolled up 22 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Noblesville and to every other team in the league.

So far this season Earle has 16 wins and 8 losses and a 2.64 ERA.

September's Top Starter is Montoya

Jesús Montoya of Colorado had an award-winning September as he took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

"He told me once people used to make fun of the way he pitches," Montoya's pitching coach told reporters. "There wasn't anybody laughing in September except for Jesús."

Montoya was all business when he took the mound though, collecting a 3-1 record in 5 starts. He struck out 29 batters in 33.2 innings and kept opponents to a .242 batting average.

This season Montoya has a 15-8 record with a 3.03 ERA.

CL Rookie Hittin' on All Cylinders in September

The top choice in September for the Continental League Rookie of the Month was Yoriie Nemoto of Brooklyn.

The talented shortstop started 25 games, hit .340 with a .434 OBP. For the month, he totaled 33 hits, 1 home run, 13 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Presently Nemoto is batting .296 with 171 hits and 13 home runs. He has knocked in 60 runs and scored 89 times.

Robinson Vázquez had a fine September against Republic League pitchers and was acclaimed the league's Rookie of the Month today.

The Omaha left fielder walloped the opposition with 21 hits, 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He compiled a .318 average and .423 on-base percentage.

In his 2179 season totals, Vázquez has 25 home runs, .276 BA, .339 OBP, 87 RBIs and 72 runs scored.

Hmm. Halifax has better pitching, better hitting and had a winning record vs me this season. They play better at home than I do, and play great on the road as well.

This will likely be a short postseason appearance this year for me.

The boyish Apex left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level. RL Pitcher of the Month Goes to Luna Tuesday, June 1st, 2179 Sancho Luna is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for May. He made no relief appearances for Ann Arbor last month, throwing 43 innings and collecting no saves, a 5-1 record, 32 strikeouts and a 2.93 ERA.
