This Year's Best Gloves Chosen by CL
Sunday, November 4th, 2114 Defense is a critical element in the game of baseball. Many times late in the game, a light-hitting defensive specialist will be inserted in place of a superstar hitter. Good defenders are worth their weight in gold and today the best of them for 2114 have been recognized. These players will receive the Continental League Slick Fielder Award: Pitcher: Ismael Rivera (Omaha Bees) Catcher: George Petree (Manchester Terriers) First Baseman: Sergio Báez (Washington Freedom) Second Baseman: Ken Hodges (London Bishops) Third Baseman: Juan Atilano (Oshawa Mullets) Shortstop: António Hernández (London Bishops) Left Fielder: Enrique Bafana (London Bishops) Center Fielder: Gastone Scotti (Omaha Bees) Right Fielder: Mauro Pérez (Manchester Terriers) RL Slick Fielder Award Winners Named Sunday, November 4th, 2114 Any pitcher would love to have these defenders on the field backing them up. They are the best glovemen in the Republic League for 2114. This year's Slick Fielder Award winners are: Pitcher: Germán Díaz (Ann Arbor Wolverines) Catcher: Luis Rivera (Portland Axemen) First Baseman: Cris Santos (Cleveland Naps) Second Baseman: Jack Andersen (Portland Axemen) Third Baseman: Bernardo Suárez (Waikiki Beach Boys) Shortstop: Domingo Jaimes (Portland Axemen) Left Fielder: Vicente Morales (Maricopa Rattlers) Center Fielder: Ramón Reyes (Las Vegas Wildcats) Right Fielder: Ryan Hairston (Las Vegas Wildcats)

Dadswell excelled with an impressive 17-5 record in 27 starts. In 178.2 innings he yielded 164 hits and 57 walks, while striking out 123 and compiling a fine 2.47 ERA. Torres Scoops up RL Top Hurler Award Wednesday, November 7th, 2114 The 2114 Republic League Mauro Morales Award winner is Jorge Torres of the Ann Arbor Wolverines. RL's Best Batsman Selected, It's Ortíz
Thursday, November 8th, 2114 It's been a year of triumph for veteran José Ortíz of the Ann Arbor Wolverines as he hit his way to the 2114 Republic League Bartolo Liriano Award. The 27-year-old veteran compiled a .333 average and .358 on-base percentage by putting together 228 hits, 23 doubles, 4 triples, 37 home runs and 27 walks. He also scored 120 times and drove in 123 runs. Star C Garrett Settles on Oshawa Friday, November 9th, 2114 Oshawa Mullets fans were not enthusiastic about the signing of Ryan Garrett despite his in-game work. Garrett has built quite a reputation around the league as a clubhouse cancer. The 33-year-old catcher signed on for $1,086,666 per year and he will call Oshawa home for 3 years. As far as career numbers Garrett has compiled a .244 batting average and collected 749 hits, 107 home runs and 444 RBIs.

Alright fellas, get the checkbooks open and offer En-lai Hsueh up something special, the Hitmen need some farm system rejuvenation.

Looks like a good deal for a high caliber player. I was tempted to keep him (he had agreed to a deal with me during arbitration but I cancelled it) but decided to give my young players a shot and try to get some pitching.

I see one of the guys you will try to use to fill that void is Chikafuji. I wish you luck. He always frustrated me a bit, because I thought he should be better than his results. But even when frustrating me, he was a decent enough pitcher for a #4 or #5, and you got him on a pretty reasonable per annum.

Hibbies got what they wanted, signing Brule to play 2B and add another top end tablesetter to the lineup, and adding a power bat to replace Hendricks in the lineup in Skip Lucas. Prospect Orlando Castillo, who spent his rookie season being a backup, will get his chance to become a middle of the order guy now, with Hendricks gone to St. Louis.
I also brought back Rivera, who is no longer a great 3B, but he's a better guy there than my current starter, the converted first baseman Paul Woofrey.

Not too sure about the stability of Chikafuji, but he's definitely an upgrade over some of the arms I've been throwing out there. His numbers should be a bit better in my park compared to yours.
The 7 Million he's getting coupled with the deals I offered 5 other pitchers limited my ability to go after one big bat, but I'd rather have the big contract year at the beginning rather than the end. I've always been a little miffed by huge final year salaries that allow managers to cut them and sow the benefits of the cheap early years, so I don't do it.

Nothing like cutting a $12m player just to be able to fill your roster.
Now to go shopping in FA 2....

If it's a player option. Fine. If it's 8/8/8/8/10 team option. Fine If it's 5/5/5/5/10. That's not honorable. Not only that, the financial structure in this league has changed to the point that anyone can cut any bad multiyear contract at the end of the season and not be penalized because we have so much extra money floating around. I can't remember if we have any rules regarding contracts, but I hope we can get to the point that people are being honorable with the way they manage their finances.

When the league upgraded to 12 for 2085, the budgets got out of whack. You can see this easily in any team history where before 2085 payroll and balance adds up to 70-72 million, but after 2085 budgets ballooned. For some reason this effect did not occur when FOOL upgraded to 12 as their teams' payroll plus balance is still about 70-72 million.

I remember seeing one contract (I don't even remember what team) about 20 years or so ago that was something like 5/5/5/5/23. It was just really, really dumb.

You can hardcode budgets in 13 now, aka make it a steady budget every year. With a cap of $65m, you can set it in the $70m range.

They had added it in a patch.
(on my insistence, actually. Another league I'm in had a big problem with budgets, so I pushed it and Markus finally added it )

In other news, 44 year old reliever Juan Morales has been released by the Chicago Hitmen. As tough as it was, he was due to turn 45 during the season and I just couldn't leave the well seasoned vet on the roster with slightly better options available to me.

Thats one of those that is impossible to stop from happening. When a team is on AI I have to allow them to offer contracts for one day. Which in turn they see the FA as it is after rosters are imported. I'll try to figure a way to handle this.

This league was fine until moving to OOTP12. 12 split media revenue into national and local. FOOL does not have the problem that FOOLX seems to have. So, I would compare local media revenue and merchandise revenue in FOOL and FOOLX. I think both local media revenue and merchandise revenue should be set to zero. National media revenue is set to $65 million. This should "fix" the "problem" without "hardcoding" anything. At any rate, shouldn't there be a discussion and vote about changes?

I didn't think 5/5/5/23 type deals were even possible in the game? I thought the max year contract couldn't be more than double the lowest year or such?

It needs fixed no matter what. I'm fairly certain that the majority of people will agree a fix is needed. I'll test both approaches out this weekend and see what I can find out.
EDIT: The use of "fairly" in my sentence was total coincidence.

I drafted a 21yr old SP 1st overall in this past draft. He's in my starting lineup THIS YEAR! I think this is the first I remember starting someone from the Am. Draft the same year they were drafted.

It's always exciting to get those top tier players into your system. If he was mine I'd probably stash him in AAA for a season and let him try and develop that control. Not trying to be rude, but I'm not sure the Naps will be in contention this year with or without him. Why waste one of those cheap 100K salary years when you can save him for next season when you might be a little bit more competitive. Hsueh will be making less money and you'll have more cap space to upgrade the team. Ah, I take that back, just bring him up and throw him to the wolves.

I like to keep them down too, but then sometimes I keep them down TOO long and get forced to call them up because they won't accept a minor league extension

Ooooo.... But then again "look at the NHL" is hardly a common phrase when discussing a successful economic system!
