Towel Boy Basketball Re-Re-Launches!

It. Is. Alive! ALIVE!

For the uninitiated: Towel Boy Basketball is a web-based college basketball text sim. I've launched twice before, many years ago, just didn't work out. Whole buttload of rewriting and revamping later (basically as an excuse to teach myself some new programming techniques) and here we are.

For the initiated: Give the old girl another shot. Third time's a charm and all, and it's definitely much, much improved.

For the handful of people who were testing earlier: You'll need to re-register, as there was of course a full data wipe.

For everyone: Towel Boy Basketball

First game starts 9/10/2012. Little while to go, but it'll give some time for people to get used to the interface and suggest changes.

We were taking bets on how long it'd take someone to ask.

Yes. You can still call me DC. Ben says he will and then said some Coming To America quote.

It's all Greek to me.

You should make an option to reset the Zip code field in case anybody accidentally screws up.

Post your team info here guys, I'm interested.

We're the Flint Banana Slugs located in Centerville Ohio. We will play in the Great Valley Conference.

Picked Flint because my favorite cbb player of all-time was a little known (nationally) UC Bearcat by the name of Damon Flint. Banana Slugs, because shit yeah that's cool. And Centerville because that's where I call home.

Should be able to change the zip in there while you're signing up, and it'll auto refresh itself. But yeah, I'll toss in a full fledged reset button to make it easier.

And you've won the early award for most god awful uniforms.

And Redscarlet is the first sucker to join the Palm Desert Fighting Trout up in the Desert Valley conference. Muah. Though I got stuck with a mediocre team and 6 damn graduating seniors. Hoo boy.

I assume everything is on a 10-pt scale for the skills/attributes?

dola - I noticed the recruits page has sorting by skills/attributes - will you be adding that to the main roster page too?

Yes (in answer to the 10 points scale), and I could. Didn't really think about it on that page since it's a much smaller subset of people.

That is true - if it's easy enough, it'd be a nice-to-have

I'd also like to point out that I already suck at picking my own team.

My non conference games (which, fyi are simply random draws), are ALL away. Grr.

No. They're generated at the beginning of each season. No reason to change them, since teams are just taking over the slots the bots own.

No mins/maxs on the positions? My center is a 10 for speed, some of my guards are the highest inside scorers on the team, etc

Nope. 'Course, keep in mind those inside scoring guards, you can set them to slashers/drive & kick styles and they SHOULD be pretty successful.

edit: And speed is rather useful on big men for defense.

Not too shabby. 26 people signed up thus far.

Only 274 open spots left this season.

Yeah. You've got another week to get your initial recruiting & lineups set.

Mainly, I wanted a good amount of time to catch any interface bugs and get as many human teams in as possible before games kick off. Bots are boring.

I didn't know there WAS a Green Bay team registered already. I looked at the thread before I picked my location. I saw a couple other Wisconsin schools - did you mean wavered on letting another Wisconsin school in, or did somebody sign up for a Green Bay school and not post?

Awesome. I have a pair of 7-footers who can't play back to the basket for shit, and a pair of 5'9" kids who, by rating, should be pretty effective. We're gonna confuse a lot of teams.

No, I mean I'm a Bears fan. It was just the principle of the thing.

edit: BTW. I have a 7'1" Power Forward named...Stumpy. Too bad he's awful.

Da. Which as you should have just noticed, should not be long. Just an easy way to keep people from trying to register multiple times, and make sure nothing's offensive.

Games start tonight, kids. Make sure your depth charts are set.

(and let's hope the spiffy new play by play system works right! It was a bitch to test.)

I'd hurry. There's only 250+ spots open.

Registration doesn't ever close or anything. Teams will play under bot control until someone claims them.

So do we have to wait in between seasons or can we join at any time? I just caught the thread but don't know if I can get in and do anything with it today.
