Having only one sim to try to put my type of team together before the season wasn't going to happen. So I am guessing probably a 40% win season maybe 45% or so.

I'm excited to see it unfold though, and look forward to spending the next 2-3 seasons trying to piece this team back together

CL's Best Batter Announced
Friday, May 1st, 2178: Pancho Gamboa battered Continental League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Gamboa told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 23 games, Gamboa hit .423 with 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 15 runs.

RL Best Hitter Trophy Goes to Muñóz
Friday, May 1st, 2178: When Francisco Muñóz stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The young Hammersmith first baseman posted a .330 batting average with 8 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 20 runs. Muñóz also worked pitchers for 8 walks to post a .383 on-base percentage.

Continental League Selects #1 Starter in April
Friday, May 1st, 2178: This month when the Apex manager wrote the name "Bruno" on the lineup card, he was pretty confident that he would get a good start out of him. Outing after outing in April Raúl Bruno took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 5-1 mark and 1.67 ERA in 6 starts, piling up 43 innings and 14 strikeouts and holding opposing teams to a .248 average.

For his superb performance Bruno was named the Continental League Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

Dillman Top RL Pitcher in April
Friday, May 1st, 2178: Greg Dillman hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Republic League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In April the Hartford starter earned a 4-0 mark in 4 starts. He threw 27.2 innings, struck out 16 and compiled a solid 1.95 ERA.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Friday, May 1st, 2178: Dave Mullowney's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Baltimore center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .360 with 8 doubles, 2 triples and 4 home runs. Mullowney also scored 15 times and drove in 15 runs.

Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Friday, May 1st, 2178: Henry Denis is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Colorado hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .336 average with 36 hits, no home runs and 6 RBIs.

May's Best CL Hitter is Pedro Carasquillo
Monday, June 1st, 2178: Free agent-to-be Pedro Carasquillo has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the Continental League Batter of the Month.

In May, the 35-year-old Apex first baseman hit .409 with 5 home runs and 13 RBIs.

If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year.

Currently Carasquillo is batting .364 with 9 home runs and 27 RBIs.

Stout RL Outstanding Batter of the Month
Monday, June 1st, 2178: Ken Stout walked away with the Republic League Batter of the Month award for his solid work with the stick in May.

The Colorado designated hitter hit .370 with 6 home runs, 18 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Presently Stout is batting .315 with 9 home runs and 37 RBIs. He has played in 47 games and scored 24 times.

Season-to-date Sánchez has rung up 8 wins and 2 losses in 13 appearances. He has an ERA of 2.48 and has fanned 81 batters in 72.2 innings.

RL Pitcher of the Month Goes to James

Brooklyn Catcher Rated Best Rookie
Monday, June 1st, 2178: Terry Hobbs was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old catcher definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 22 games Hobbs batted .264 for Brooklyn, slapping 23 hits in 87 at-bats with 4 home runs, drove in 10 runs and scored 11 times.

So far this year Hobbs is batting .261 with 5 home runs.

May's #1 Newcomer Named by RL
Monday, June 1st, 2178: Youngster Henry Denis emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Colorado deserved the honor, batting .317 with 1 home run and 12 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Denis enjoy the limelight.

Thus far this year Denis is hitting .327 with 1 home run, 18 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

FOOL News: The All-Star Game Rosters Have Been Announced
Friday, July 10th, 2178: Nothing is for certain about the 2178 Front Office Offseason League All-Star Game. It might be dominated by top-notch pitching performances. Or it could turn into a home run derby. Who knows? Pitch by pitch, inning by inning, the game could feature a little of both -- six strikeouts in a row by a nasty southpaw -- or a 3-homer day for some superstar slugger -- plus great catches, thrills, chills and spills -- all the great and the unexpected things that can happen in a baseball game.

This year, the Continental League will be represented by these All-Star performers: SP Nathan Allen (APX) - 9-5, 2.48 ERA
SP John Bennett (APX) - 7-5, 3.14 ERA
SP Raúl Bruno (APX) - 10-2, 2.88 ERA
SP Roberto Garza (NOB) - 9-7, 3.11 ERA
SP Bill McGuigan (BAL) - 11-4, 3.72 ERA
SP Dan Robbins (CLE) - 10-3, 2.29 ERA
MR Moon-soo Ho (HAL) - 3-0, 4 SV, 1.98 ERA

Relief Ace Cops #1 Pitcher Award in September
Thursday, October 1st, 2178: It's a rarity when someone out of the pen gets recognition as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month, but that's exactly what happened today as Omaha reliever, Daniel Fairburn, earned September's title.

He tossed 15.1 innings, posting a 5-0 mark, 3.52 ERA, sitting down 14 on strikes and also nailing down no saves in his 14 relief appearances.

So far this year Fairburn has been credited with no saves, registered a 1.45 ERA and struck out 79 in 93.1 innings. He also has a 7-1 record.

So much for that prediction.

I am pretty sure alot of luck was involved there.

Looks like De La Garza, who went 8-18 with a 5+ ERA last season won nearly 20 games this year.

I figured that Gamboa would be good, but did not expect him to come 2 home runs away from the triple crown, setting career highs in HR in the process.

It looks like Tirado did ok, even though I hate his type of player and wish I didn't even have him on my team. He was an All star and among the home run leaders, but I would be surprised if he hit .250.

I wasn't even sure that I would keep Mullowney up in the majors this season or keep him down in AAA one more year as this is a rebuilding team. Looks like he was an all star and hit well over .300 with a little power though which was a nice surprise.

I guess I'll see when the file is ready what other surprises there were, but I was playing basically with no catcher, only 2 1/2 Starting pitchers, only 2 relievers that were any good and not much in the way of infield.. so didn't expect to do as well.

I'm guessing it was beginner's luck.

There's something right with the world when you see Alan underpredictions and then he's in 1st place in his first season as usual. I love it.

File is up. Playoffs are tomorrow morning.

After tomorrows sim I'll do the conversion. We'll again go on a weeks break to let everyone get setup. I'll be around a great deal over the next week in case there is any issues that arise.

Alan back with a flourish.

Meanwhile, I am a year ahead of schedule, as my young star pitching prospects are still in AAA. I'll take it and hopefully get back to the Classic tomorrow.

Good luck tomorrow, hyde!

I am exported tomorrow. I hope I beat the AI overlord Apex team to at least make it a all human FOOL Classic.

Good luck to the members of the lesser league tomorrow. If Apex ends up beating me, I hope one of you win. Otherwise I hope to stomp either of you into complete submission!
