Ragnar
Hey everyone,
Just wondering if any of you fitness-minded folk do the Ragnar? For those who don't know, it's a form of (semi) extreme running in which relay teams will run relays over long distances. Events are held all over the country. I just competed in the Southern California Ragnar Relay the past couple days, my first Ragnar. 12-person teams to cover 203.5 miles, from Huntington Beach to Coronado Island by San Diego. My particular team only had 10 participants, so we had to cover a little extra. In addition to a "scheduled" 19.5 miles across three legs, I also ran an additional 1.6 miles on a leg I wasn't supposed to run any part of. It was all hilly area, too, not easy runs at all, and the longest leg was in 95º weather. Any way, it was nuts, very hard. It was fun, but, wow, very intense. My team did well, too, finishing among the best teams in our group (mixed amateur men and women).

Have always been curious, but the commitment to putting together a team has always been intimidating.
Congrats! |

Congrats Chief! I hear these relays are lot of fun.
I'm looking to do the Bourbon Chase here in KY this fall. It's a 200 mile overnight relay along the Bourbon Trail that goes through many of the historic distilleries in the area. |

I think the nutty part is trying to deal with the fact that it's a relay so you have to plan out when to get at your spot or get there when it starts and then wait.

I'm not sure how Ragnar works, but in the Bourbon Chase the entire team follows the current runner in a van. When it's time swap, the current runner hops in the van and the next one gets out. Still pretty nutty to spend an entire night in a van with 11 other sweaty runners I guess, but it sounds like fun to me!

While the van is moving? If so, does the next runner have to hop out right away.... |

I do like 6-7 miles a day. The concept of a team of people doing a multi-hundred mile relay is just...impressive though. As is Chief being like "yeah...i ran 19 and then chipped in an ran an extra mile and a half later on" so nonchalantly.

Except here in Colorado, we get people running up sides of mountains everyday, including up to 14,000-feet. Also we are the land of the ultra-marathoner (I knew two at work that were such) - doing 100-mile races at high altitude. I know Huntington to Coronado, it's flat
I do admire those that can run long distance - even 6-7 miles a day is great. Great job Chief, and keep up the good work DT. |
