Ping: FOFC IT Braintrust - Multiple Monitors Resolution Issue

So I bought a new computer for our secondary office. Bought two monitors for it. The computer has a Radeon HD6370 graphics card. The back of the computer only has connections for one HDMI and one DVI connection.

The HDMI monitor displays fine. Windows won't recognize the DVI-connected monitor as anything other than a "Generic PnP monitor" and only gives me 640x480 resolution option. That's clearly not going to fly.

How do I fix this?

I've already tried wiping out the drivers & monitors in device manager and reinstalling them starting with only one connected...which worked fine until a reboot.

In fact - for some stupid reason they're both recognized as generic PnP monitors. Grrrr

One reason I don't buy ATI cards is because they have a bad history with resolutions and refresh rates with me. So I can't help here.

Okay - so now they're both recognized as the correct type of monitors, but the one that's on DVI is limited to 720x576 resolution by Windows. How can I fix that? Grrrr

LMAO. I've had HP tech support remote-controlling the computer for the last hour+ and they are no closer to finding a solution then I was.

Can they just send me a new monitor already?

Haven't used ATI in years, but does it work at the correct resolution with each monitor connected by itself? If so, it sounds more like a driver/firmware issue than a defective monitor.

Interesting question. Good test. I gave up on it for the day, but maybe I will try that before demanding a new monitor. I

Curious. Is this a desktop or a laptop? And which model is it?

I think the 6370 is only a mobile card, but I don't think there is an HP laptop that has DVI and HDMI outputs...

It's a desktop. Maybe I got the card number right, but I don't think I did.

I literally just bought it for work along with the 2 identical monitors. I'm pretty fucking fed up with it after spending like 2 hours on the phone with the clueless guy from HP tech support trying all sorts of basic crap.

I plan on calling customer service (not tech support) in the morning and saying "Hey...i literally just pulled this monitor out of the box and it's fucked up. Send me a new one right now."

What are you using to try to adjust the monitor resolutions? If you aren't, try to make sure you are using the Radeon app and not the default windows one. Also make sure you are running current drivers for your video card. This does sometimes happen with new monitors and it can be hard to tell if it's a bad monitor or just some kind of software issue.

I've tried using Win to adjust the resolution and the Radeon app. If I uncheck the "only show supported resolutions" checkbox I can get a bunch more resolutions in the Radeon app (but not in windows), but even then if I select one of them they don't display.

I tried updating all the drivers for the video card, I tried rolling back to the original drivers, hell I even tried reinstalling windows (even though it was a brand new windows install). Nothing made any difference. Besides - if it was a driver problem then it would be shown on both monitors - since they're identical models.

Anyways - I've got a return authorization from HP so I'm just going to have them ship me a new one. File this one under "hardware issue"
