I'd like to come back in. Did you guys end up doing weekly roster locks last season? I remember that was recommended and I was curious to see what ended up coming of that.

I'd prefer a thread draft, but I'm OK with a live draft as well this year.

I have currently set up as a weekly roster lock, running Monday-Sunday.

I am find with a thread draft. I can access FOFC during the day, but not Yahoo. I'd only be able to update rosters at night.

If we get 12 teams, 16 spots per team. I'd say we need at least a full week to complete a thread draft. Meaning, latest we could start a draft would be Wednesday the 28th, gives me an extra night to make sure rosters are set.

I'm in. I'm not sure if I can make the draft, but I will try. Let me know if that won't work for you guys. I assume it will be ok if I can't make it if we do a draft on the yahoo site, but I'm not sure about the thread draft.

I don't get home until about 8:15 PM on Tuesday so I'll probably miss my first pick.

There are currently 11 teams in, so sign up HiFi

I can bump back to 9:30 if that slot is still available.
Or, do we want to thread draft? We'd better start soon if we are

I think it's to late for a thread draft- especially with it being friday, weekends normally slow down drafts. You should be able to load up a queue if it's just the first round...or we can push it back, I have 3 drafts on Tuesday so I'll be around anytime

Once HiFi confirms he's in, I'll lock it up (12 teams).

I'll echo Doug, you are able to set a queue. If that gets you through the first round, or however far, once you sign in, you can de-activate from there.

I would prefer to push it back, but I am just one simple man.

I can let Yahoo pick mine too.. will it just pick if I'm not there like it does for FF?

Edit: looks like it will use their default order if you don't make one.. that's fine too.

Yeah there is a default list, so you won't get Ben Eager in round 1. Only thing to be careful of is injuries. If Crosby is still ranked 1, and people pass, you'll get him-- not a terrible thing, unless he's out til January.

Not a question about this league or anything, but fantasy hockey in general... I've never been in a league, but have found myself in one due to the Jets coming back. The draft is Monday...

Are there some quick tips anyone can pass along with regards to drafting? It's a snake order... do you target forwards first? Goalies? Are there fantasy football equivalents someone can help with?

It's head-to-head scoring...

Roster
Center (C) 2 No Limit
Left Wing (LW) 2 No Limit
Right Wing (RW) 2 No Limit
Defense (D) 4 No Limit
Utility (UTIL) 2 N/A
Goalie (G) 2 4
Bench (BE) 4 N/A
Injured Reserve (IR) 1 N/A

Scoring
Skating
Goals (G) Assists (A)
Plus/minus (+/-) Penalty Minutes (PIM)
Game-Winning Goals (GWG) Power Play Points (PPP)
Short Handed Points (SHP)

Goaltending
Wins (W) Shutouts (SO)
Goals Against Average (GAA)* Save Percentage (SV%)
*Minimum 3 GS

As long as D don't get preferential scoring, they go last. I was in a league where D goals were worth 3 points, so getting a premier guy like Green or Weber was huge. In a regular league, those guys are nice, but I'd rather have a top forward (90+ points) than top D (60+) when they are weighted equally.

Goalies, are little tougher. Depends where you draft. Assuming you pick at the back end of round one, you can grab a forward, then still a good goalie on the snake back. Getting at least 1 guy assured of 60 starts is good- with the 3 game requirement to accumlulate goalie stats its pretty important. So having the one guy almost assured of 2 starts a week helps alot.

Thanks, I'll use the above when drafting. I'm not sure what the order is yet, but D doesn't get extra scoring or anything like that, so I'll try to get a forward and goalie with my first two picks.

Ok so apparently I get first overall pick! I don't know if people are messing with me, but I figured Ovechkin and have heard to take Perry or Stamkos... help? lol.

Is it head-to-head by category, like our league?

I don't think you can go wrong with any of those guys...or, my homer vote, Malkin.

HiFi can better answer, but in the other thread, looks like Ovy will not play with Backstrom-- that could be a good thing or a bad thing.

Perry is, IMO, the risk-reward guy there. Is he scoring 50 again? Probably not. But, if he's a 40g/80 point guy, you are still picking up PIM and SHP from him you won't get from the other 2 guys.

Thanks. However, due to ESPN not allowing a draft order change so close to the start of the draft (half an hour), we are keeping it at whatever the system had, which would have me pick 12/12... kind of a huge difference. I'd do goalie/forward if one of the top four goalies are still up I guess.

I'm going to use this as the general fantasy hockey thread if no one minds.

My team (drafting 12/12, snake order, head-to-head scoring) is below... Could someone let me know if I've drafted someone that should automatically be dropped? One problem I see right away is that Markov and Staal apparently aren't ready for the beginning of the season... so I have to drop someone for a waiver D I guess...:

C Mikko Koivu, Min C
C Logan Couture, SJ C
LW Andrew Ladd, Wpg LW
LW James Neal, Pit LW
RW Martin St. Louis, TB RW
RW Claude Giroux, Phi RW
D Keith Yandle, Pho D
D Andrei Markov, Mon D DTD
D Marek Zidlicky, Min D
D Brian Campbell, Fla D
UTIL Patrice Bergeron, Bos C
UTIL Brayden Schenn, Phi C
Bench Marc Staal, NYR D DTD
Bench Frans Nielsen, NYI C
Bench David Jones, Col RW

G Henrik Lundqvist, NYR G
G Al Montoya, NYI G
Bench Jonathan Bernier, LA G

Really good on RW, solid at LW and C. D could use a few guys, like you said. Who is available? Campbell should put up points in FLA, and Yandle is good.

G, assuming DiPietro gets hurt brushing his teeth, Montoya should at least get you starts.

Yeah I was reading that Montoya is a decent draft choice because of that lol. Are the UTIL slots OK as well? Who would you drop to pick up more D? I think I need at least one because of Markov/Staal not playing right now.

I have first waiver priority, so I can get any of these guys I guess (top D listed on waivers):

Grant Clitsome, Cls D
Bryan McCabe, NYR D
Michael Del Zotto, NYR D
Joe Corvo, Bos D
Jamie McBain, Car D
Ian White, Det D
Matt Carle, Phi D
Andy Greene, NJ D
Victor Hedman, TB D
Dennis Wideman, Wsh D
Anton Babchuk, Cgy D
Paul Martin, Pit D
Andrej Meszaros, Phi D
Dan Hamhuis, Van D
Stephane Robidas, Dal D
Fedor Tyutin, Cls D
Adam Larsson, NJ D
Cody Franson, Tor D
Dan Girardi, NYR D
Theo Peckham, Edm D
Jordan Leopold, Buf D
Jared Cowen, Ott D
Kurtis Foster, Ana D
Luke Schenn, Tor D
Toni Lydman*, Ana D
Sami Salo, Van D
Nick Leddy, Chi D
Matt Taormina, NJ D
Steve Kampfer*, Bos D
Johnny Boychuk, Bos D
Cam Barker, Edm D
Marc-Andre Gragnani, Buf D

I would go with Hedman. He's only going to get better. He could take another step forward this year, and you can start to rack up points when you're feeding Stamkos, St. Louis and Lecavalier in on goal.

These 2, plus Corvo, who should get some PP with BOS as well as being able to move the puck up 5-on-5, and Ian White, for the same reasons. White could be a 40 point guy.

Thanks guys, I don't plan on harassing everyone throughout the season, but I just wanted some guidance at the beginning here.

I believe I will drop David Jones for Ian White.

Hmm, out of the D available, two guys are owned in like 90% of leagues apparently (and White is at 44%)... Grant Clitsome and Bryan McCabe. Any preference for those guys over White?

Thanks again guys!

McCabe isn't even on a roster as of today

Clitsome is OK, but he's not on a team as loaded as say White or Wideman

I won't be around tomorrow at all.. so for the most part, I'll let yahoo pick my team and tweak from there.

Our soccer club is going to be on the radio after my class tomorrow, going to be about 10 PM before I'm home. Was just asked to be a part of the show a few hours ago.

Thanks, I`ll stick with White.

Last question and then I`ll go on my own for a bit.

For goalies, Montoya won`t be playing at the start, and Bernier is a backup without much playing time... should I drop Bernier for one of these to use as a starter for now?

Jose Theodore
Mike Smith
Steve Mason
Tuukka Rask
Semyon Varlamov

I'd grab Mason. He, Theo and Varlamov are the definite starters, and he's on probably the best team of those 3. Smith I don't think is a sure thing, though likely, starter in PHO, and Rask will only see about 30 starts unless something severe happens to Thomas.

I'm in another league with a couple guys from work.

If you remember those terrible Pens team just prior to the lockout, they had a bum named Michel Ouellett (he later played in Tampa for a little).

My team name there is OuellettTheDogsOut

The group of us came up with a few really good names, wish I could remember them all.

If we have any Isles fans here, they are free to use StreitOuttaCompton. (And yes I realize its pronounced Strite not Straight )
