I tried including all messages in this one (not just the past sim) so see if that fixes Commo's issue of blank messages.

Alan,

One thing and I'm nt even sure how to rectify it is in regards to the development budget. Not only does it effect signing FA's once preseason has started but it also effects the upcoming FA period as well. Unless you shed a lot of payroll. And I'm not sure if it's my owner that is causing the issue because he's the biggest cheap ass outside of the Bengals ownership or if it's the budget or if it's everything all together.

My budget given to me by my owner is only 1 million over the cap so it does not allow me to pursue players near the cap and add to the development budget. I have to choose one way or the other.

owners are not set to impact budget in this league. So it is probably your income -> expected income subtracting already allocated money.

While they are not set to impact budget, I think it is apparent they are affecting it. If there was no budget we should be limited to our media revenue and cash on hand, possibly expected income, but not needed. Instead we are given a limit, which can go up or down based on our owner. For example Apex has a charitable owner, he will allow them to spend 10+ million a year over the 65 million, so they can put 10 million in a developmental budget if they wanted without sacrifice. Noblesville has a penny-pincher for an owner, so they only get 1.5 over the 65 million, so they have to choose a full payroll or limited development. While there is some other factors that go into a budget, owner does seem to play a role.

I guess I'd just like to see the player development budget go away if it is going to not put teams on equal ground. I'm carrying over 15 million in cash why am I not allowed to spend up to 80 million in my expenses (current salaries, cut salaries, and player development). Not sure if it can be disabled, but maybe just setting the average at 100k per team and mandate everyone stays at that level.

On another note, I wish we could customize OOTP for our type of league. Just saw Juriaan 'Banshee' de Klerk retired at 32 because his contract never goes down to a reasonable level for us. Just sad to me to see so many good players retire because of the insane amounts of money they want.

My point is it's irrelevant how it's being decided but that I can not spend any money this FA period because it carries over from the preseason to the first part of our free agency. A solution would be to switch how FA is handled but not sure if that would work in this league....

Such as simming up to preseason and then splitting that period of free agency in 2 parts before Spring Training.

I also agree with Commo that something needs to be done with player demands I find them to be a little high as well.

I bid on de klerk two sims in a row. The first was $2mil per season under asking price. The 2nd I met his demand. So i am thinking he just wanted to retire....but your point is valid. I think demands are too high.
Something to look into, although I am willing to wait a few seasons on it as we have had peaks and valleys like this before and it may take some time for OOTP to level itself out.

Yeah, not sure that it would be different in any league though as I think the start of spring training is the first any league can change it. Just something you'll have to keep in mind when setting it for the next year.

I agree with Eric on the player demands issue. It usually takes a bit before everything levels out.

I do like the player development cost being involved because I think it does play a factor. Eddies issue certainly is a problem though. My thinking is what if we made all the owners the same? Wouldn't that even the playing field?

Remember that we purposefully forced player demands to be higher in this league like 150 seasons ago. It was done so a team like Valdosta couldn't just keep the same players for a decade and increase parity in the league.

Lowering player demand = less parity and more dynasties which at least in my eyes is a bad thing.

I believe if you can edit the budget in at the start of the preseason that occurs before Spring Training. So my idea and of which I do in my league is I sim all the way up to preseason and then do FA sims. Now in a FOOL type setting we could just go straight from arbitration to preseason. Sim preseason up to Spring Training. We aren't gaining any sims just lengthening the the arbitration sim.

This does have benefits too as the longer these guys are on the FA market the lower their demands get so that initial signing period their demands would be lower.

Obviously this also can cause headaches for Alan if people don't pay attention to this and just put offers out there anyhow...But it's worth a thought.

Couldn't we just go from arbitration sim right to preseason though? It wouldn't cause a headache or an extra sim. Still a 5 sim week this way. I mean just start our FA period in February instead of November. For the big guys it don't matter what they ask for in the end anyhow. I can't remember for the life of me when I got a star FA at asking price.

I think you may be merging the two different discussions. Eddie is wanting to move it up so we can reset our player developmental budgets at the beginning of FA and not in the middle, so you don't have to go by last years number the first sim.

As for contracts, I think they are fine where they are, 99% of the time, just was saying I wish the game would accommodate our type of league. Normally players demands will slip as the season goes on, but we never really see them slip, at least not much, and it can be hard to get them to lower their price. We will see how much different it is from 10, but I know in 10 you could go quite a bit under asking price and they'd sign with you still rather than sit out, not sure yet if that is still the case.

As for retirements, Eric, did you get a response from de Klerk about the contract? I noticed now that MR I tried getting for 3 sims, meeting his demands every time and noticed this past sim, the stud, now 25 year-old, MR retired. Granted I was having problems in my responses with him, but just sucks to see a 25 year old player, who had interest, just retire at 25 when his demands were being met.

Finally, I'm fine with leaving the developmental budget as is, just wanted to point out that it creates a league where teams are no longer equal based on some random stuff that we have no control over.

I was merging them to just show that that solves both issues at hand. My english grammar just stinks. I'm not great at setting up sentences properly. I do on the other hand know a ton about baseball. The funny part is that I'm disabled and have to use my brain to get by in life. I on the other hand know sports (that I've never played of course) more then anything else.

I could edit all owner's spending to be the same to help your budget complaints, but it likely would change when owners died though and eventually would get missed.

Give me a week or so to get through stuff and we'll revisit the player development budget stuff and if people want to keep it around or not.

Granted I was having problems in my responses with him, but just sucks to see a 25 year old player, who had interest, just retire at 25 when his demands were being met.

I bid on same said MR free agent three sims in a row as well only to have him retire instead of taking my offer. I submitted a contract above his demand, too!

Frustrating.

I am guessing here but when you set your budget plus that outstanding free agent offer he didn't sign because you were above the cap with the budget and that contract...Now I could be wrong but who knows

Give me a week or so to get through stuff and we'll revisit the player development budget stuff and if people want to keep it around or not.

I think we can still keep the budget stuff if we just sim straight from arbitration to the start of preseason. This way you are setting your budget and bidding on FA's at the same time and you aren't burned by past years budget of development.

No idea. I never got any response from him. You're probably right though.

I don't want to do that because of all of the FAs that we would lose jan 1st every year.

Do you remember if you got a blank email that could have been his? And if you looked at the pending offers after the sim did it just have the date? Maybe there is something corrupt with certain players if that is the case. It happened with one other FA for me, but all others go through fine, so I'm not certain it is just messages that are causing our issues. I submitted a ticket on this and will download past versions to take screen shots of the issue.

Dola, I've also submitted a ticket for the vesting option issue. I've done some testing the past few sims and have come to the conclusion that every contract I've offered that vests will double if you are just vesting the last year, but will work as intended if you vest the last two years. So if you want it to be 500 PAs, only with a final year vesting, I'd suggest you place 250 in the amount otherwise it will come back 1000 PAs if they sign.
