Blind Man in Crowd Gets Invited to Play with Bono on Stage

PHOENIX - At age 14 doctors told Adam Bevell that he was gradually going blind, potentially devastating news. But the power of music helped the Phoenix resident get through those tough times.

It's called retinitis pigmentosa, and Adam Bevell has had to deal with it for more than 20 years.

To do so, he learned the guitar, and listened to a lot of his favorite band U2.

Last weekend his lifelong dream came true, and it's safe to say his relationship with the band has climbed to new heights.

Over the weekend at the finale of their Nashville concert, U2 was about to make their way off stage. That's when they noticed Adam Bevell.

Thanks to a makeshift sign reading "Blind guitar player," Bevell got invited up on stage.

"[Bono] said 'c'mon up here get this dude a guitar' and I thought no way man, there's no way this is happening," recalls Bevell.

"Dude's gonna play some guitar," Bono told the crowd.

Adam's straightforward request resonated with the band, and they rewarded him by bringing him up on stage to play his favorite song, "All I want is you."

"It was the greatest feeling knowing that I was playing with the greatest rock star in the world but he didn't make me feel like that at all, he made me feel like we were in our living room," he says. "That was it for me I said, you know what that is on my bucket list, if you will, that is the one thing I want to do."

U2's front man Bono is known for his generosity and humanitarian work around the world and he didn't disappoint in this case -- He gave Bevell his guitar.

Bevell has been to at least 20 U2 concerts over the years.

My brother and future sister-in-law were at the concert and he mentioned it to me, said it was a very cool way to end the show.
