Marlboros Gómez Has 15 Ks
Thursday, April 12th, 2125: Mario Gómez of the Toronto Marlboros really put on a pitching clinic today at Ballpark of Toronto as he struck out 15 Colorado Rancheros in a 5-0 victory. Gómez was simply magnificent as he held the Rancheros to 4 hits and had no walks in the game.

"My fastball was okay," Gómez said, "but my breaking stuff really hurt them. I also have to thank my catcher for calling a great game."

When asked about Gómez's performance, the Marlboros manager shook his head and said, "Yeah, he was pretty good out there today. He was dominating today."

Lizaraga Dominates Bruins in Shutout
Saturday, April 14th, 2125: The Los Angeles Bruins were almost helpless today in their 9-0 loss to Hammersmith hurler Esteban Lizaraga. He kept them confused the entire ballgame and spun a 1-hit shutout.

The Los Angeles manager said in the postgame interview, "Tip your hat to Lizaraga. He kept us off balance all night."

Lizaraga said, "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play. It was just one of those games that things went my way."

He had 2 walks and 2 strikeouts in a strong performance.

George Wilson Records 300th Save, Tames Los Angeles 6-5
Friday, April 20th, 2125: One of the most important elements of a baseball team is its relief specialist - the guy that comes in late in the game in crucial situations to stop rallies, and perhaps most of all, to close out the win. That's exactly what George Wilson does and does very well. The Hartford bullpen ace copped his 300th career save today at Harpooners Ballpark III. He shut down the Los Angeles Bruins and saved the Harpooners 6-5 victory. Wilson pitched 1 innings, gave up 1 run and allowed 2 hits to etch his name in the record book.

During his career Wilson has posted 300 saves.

Miller Stands Out, Choice for Best Pitcher
Tuesday, May 1st, 2125: When Coy Miller takes the hill, there's a good chance for a Toronto victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and a 1.22 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 37 innings, fanned 18, and held enemy hitters to a .234 average.

That's why the Marlboros star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

Peña #1 CL Pitcher in April
Tuesday, May 1st, 2125: In April, Ramón Peña tore through the Continental League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 24 years old.

The young Napa Valley starter posted a 3-0 mark and an ERA of 1.85 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 34 innings he collected 29 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .208 average.

RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Tuesday, May 1st, 2125: Youngster Christian Mathis emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Hartford deserved the honor, batting .269 with 4 home runs and 13 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Mathis enjoy the limelight.

Rookie of the Month Winner Announced
Tuesday, May 1st, 2125: The batter wants to "hit 'em where they ain't." And that is just what Leonard Zetterberg did all month long to net the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

In April he slapped 25 hits in 79 at-bats for a .316 batting average. Zetterberg also racked up 4 home runs, 14 RBIs, and 16 runs scored.

O'Slattery Wallops #300
Saturday, May 26th, 2125: There was a big sigh of relief by P.J. O'Slattery after he hit his 300th career homer. The Colorado designated hitter told BNN, "Whew. I'm glad it's over...now I can go back to just playing baseball."

It was quite a day for O'Slattery. He got his name in the league record books, 1 hit, 2 RBI, scored 2 runs and his team, the Colorado Rancheros beat the Chico Rebels 10-6.

O'Slattery knew it when he hit it. He raised his hands in the air, then ran the bases like a high school player clapping and grinning.

He told reporters in the post-game interview, "I was acting goofy running the bases... but it was my 300th home run."

"It was great," his manager said. "He stood there and watched it...we all did. You just felt it was coming...you just had a sense he would hit it soon. He has been having a lot of good at-bats. It was great to get it out of the way."

Looking at his all-time stats, O'Slattery has a lifetime .258 average with 1567 hits, 252 doubles, 11 triples, 300 home runs and 1018 RBIs. To date he has scored 858 runs, walked 882 times and stolen 0 bases.

#200 for Noblesville Pitcher Don Sentner
Wednesday, June 6th, 2125: His goal at twenty was to win twenty games one year, pitch until he was thirty, win the league pennant and to make some money. Well, Don Sentner did something even better -- the 33-year-old Noblesville Millers star has now won 200 games in his career. That put him in a very select group of pitchers.

He joined that exclusive club today at Mill Park by whipping the Brooklyn Brownstones 8-2, holding them to 5 hits in 6 innings while chalking up 3 strikeouts and 2 walks.

In the postgame interview, the modest Sentner said, "It's special to win 200 games. You don't do it by yourself. You do it with good stuff and a good bullpen. You are only as good as the guys behind you. Years from now I might look back on it and give myself a little pat on the back."

Thus far in his career, Sentner has put up a won-loss record of 200-123. Lifetime he has an ERA of 2.95, struck out 2143 batters and held opposing teams to a .233 batting average.

I can't wait to make baseball cards for FOOL. I make a card for every All-Star. I just found another card for award winners as well.

Herrera Guns Down Toronto
Tuesday, July 10th, 2125: "I had everything working for me out there. I used every one of my pitches, hit both sides of the plate really well and felt like I could do whatever I wanted."

With stuff like that, it was easy for Juan Herrera of the Winged Lingerines to handcuff the Marlboros 6-0 and come away with a complete-game 2-hit shutout. He recorded 5 strikeouts and 3 walks in an impressive performance.

This season Herrera has compiled a 7-5 mark with a 3.65 ERA.

RL Top Pitcher for July Picked
Wednesday, August 1st, 2125: The Republic League named the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award.
It went to Pedro González of Los Angeles Bruins, who impressed the voters with a glittering 3-1 record in July.

The Los Angeles star hurler made 5 starts, allowed 29 hits in 37 innings, struck out 25 and had a 1.22 ERA.

This season González has a 10-7 mark in 20 starts with a 2.81 ERA. He has given up 132 hits in 144 innings, struck out 100 and issued 21 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .243 batting average against him.

Colón Is CL's Best Pitcher in July
Wednesday, August 1st, 2125: Guillermo Colón has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in July and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Winemakers bullpen ace collected 9 saves and 14 strikeouts in 10.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .114 average and posting a 0.84 ERA and a 1-0 record.

For the year Colón has nailed down 18 saves. In 50.1 innings he has fanned 54 batters and walked 12. His record is 4-4 with a 3.22 ERA and the opposition is batting .209 against him.

RL Choice for Batter of the Month is Williams
Wednesday, August 1st, 2125: Troy Williams of the Hooligans hit .375 in July with 9 home runs, 23 RBIs and 19 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 33-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise.

This year Williams is hitting .299 with 21 home runs and 60 RBIs in 101 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .421 with 41 walks and 63 runs scored.

Craig Wins CL Prize, Named Best Hitter in July
Wednesday, August 1st, 2125: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Carl Craig can still get it done in Front Office Offseason League. In fact, the 38-year-old first baseman for Halifax was named the Continental League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In July he batted .368 with 8 home runs, 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

This season Craig is batting .299 with 111 hits and 19 home runs. He has scored 64 times and has 58 RBI.

Rookie Wiz Gets July Award in RL
Wednesday, August 1st, 2125: Christian Mathis is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the Hartford hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .333 average with 24 hits, 3 home runs and 9 RBIs.

This year Mathis has batted at a .350 pace with 113 hits, 20 home runs, 60 RBIs and scored 55 times.

CL Selects Rookie of the Month
Wednesday, August 1st, 2125: Dave Hall certainly had a lot to crow about in the Continental League in July. The rookie left fielder for Brooklyn tagged opposing pitchers for a .296 batting average and was the top votegetter for the Rookie of the Month trophy.

He won it by going 24-81 in 25 games with 5 home runs, 22 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

In 94 games this season Hall has batted at a .253 pace with 78 hits and 8 home runs.

I honestly didn't think my team would be bad. I hope I exported. (But maybe I don't so I can blame it on my forgetfullness)

Cadman Slams Milestone Homer
Tuesday, September 4th, 2125: The crowd roared -- they knew they were seeing history -- and Jacob Cadman was delighted, too: The 32-year-old Cyclones left fielder was making history with his 300th career homer. The crowd buzzed and roared again when Cadman stuck his head out of the dugout for a curtain call.

"Never, as a kid, did I ever think I'd hit even one," he told BNN after hitting No. 300 in a 3-2 victory over Noblesville. Cadman went 1-4 in the game, had 1 run batted in, and scored 1 run.

In his 1694-game career Cadman has hit .289 with 1806 hits, 300 home runs, and 1019 RBIs and has scored 1220 runs.

Herrera Pitches Ann Arbor to Shutout Victory
Thursday, September 13th, 2125: Juan Herrera of Ann Arbor easily handled the Colorado Rancheros, stopping them on 2 hits and chucking a complete-game 6-0 shutout.

"He really did a job on us," said the Colorado manager. "He had good command of his pitches. He changed speeds well and pretty much confused us. We never could zero in on him, but he certainly zeroed in on us."

Herrera said, "Everything was working for me. Throwing my breaking stuff over the plate was big."

He finished the game with 8 strikeouts and no walks in a solid outing.

In 28 starts this year Herrera has recorded a 14-7 record and a 3.40 ERA.

Winged Lingerines Shut out Rebels, Davis Winner
Saturday, September 22nd, 2125: "That was one of my best outings," said Don Davis. "I was worried a lot in the bullpen. My ball wasn't quite right. Luckily, it can be two different worlds -- the bullpen and the game. Once I stepped on the field, it all fell into place."

It was an impressive start for the Winged Lingerines hurler. He blanked the Rebels 5-0 on a strong 2-hitter while ringing up 10 strikeouts and doling out 4 walks.

So far this season Davis has a 12-12 record with a 5.70 ERA.

RL #1 Pitcher in September is Colorado's Hathorn
Monday, October 1st, 2125: It was a very good month for Jack Hathorn in September. The 36-year-old veteran starter for the Colorado Rancheros outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Hathorn ran up a 3-1 record in his 5 starts during the month. In 40 innings he fanned 29 and recorded a 1.35 ERA.

His record for the year is 16-11 in 31 starts and Hathorn has a 3.03 ERA.

September's Premier Pitcher Announced By CL
Monday, October 1st, 2125: Pablo Navarro took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in September. After all these years playing ball, the 36-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 5-0 for Halifax last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 0.93 ERA in his 7 starts, tossing 48.1 innings and striking out 22.

Presently Navarro has a 15-16 mark in 44 starts with a 5.02 ERA. He has given up 238 hits in 226 innings, struck out 131 and issued 76 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .269 batting average against him.
