The trailer for the new David Fincher version of this movie is out - possibly leaked, more likely planted - I wish they had used Noomi Rapace to play Lisbeth Salander like in the original movies, but otherwise this trailer is so fantastic.

I was surprised at how well the Swedish version captured the book (both in terms of characters and in just following the story). Streamed it from Netflix based on the recommendations here.

Looks like they pulled it down. So they left it up for several days as it brought in tons of buzz then pulled it down. Siding with it being planted.

Anyways, looked really good and I love the cover of The Immigrant Song.

I really want to read the book before the movie, but with a bunch of other books I have in line first, I am not sure that is going to happen. Is the book good?

I enjoyed the whole series quite a bit.

Question for those that have read the books.

I read the author's wiki page yesterday. It says that he originally planned 10 books. Since he died, that obviously isn't going to happen.

Is this trilogy complete or am I going to be left hanging at the end of book 3?

I don't like the idea of reading 1/3 of a story and never getting the other 2/3.

My hope is that is not the case.

I agree with you there. Also, I would've liked to have seen Stellan Skarsgård (instead of Daniel Craig) playing Mikael Blomkvist.

The Swedish version leaves some huge shoes for the Amercian version to fill. It'll be interesting to see if they pull it off.

I've read that the ten book plan was a 'Violence Against Women' project Larsson wanted to write. No evidence any of the 'Tattoo' characters being in the books, however.

Fortunately, the three books he did finish are a complete cycle. And well worth reading.

I finished the thrid book about 2 months ago. They are very entertaining page-turners. It is all tied up neatly at the end. Some of the violence is pretty disturbing, however, so be warned.

Once you get past the first 50-70 pages of book one, you can't put them down. Good series.

I've only read the first book so far and it's complete. It's not necessary to read the later books for the first to close acceptably. I get the impression it's three books not a book in three (or ten) parts.

first one was very, very good. personally, I could have done without the 2nd two.

Saw this tonight and really enjoyed it. Kept me interested the entire time and I loved the characters.

I have not read the books or seen the Swedish version of the movie, for those who have how would you say it stacks up? Definitely thinking about getting the books now.

The German muscle guy(Neidermayer) really needs to play Jaws in a bond movie. Homeboy is huge.

To be fair, that fits the character of Salander perfectly (granted, I am only about 4/5ths of the through the first book, but they make reference to her small chest quite often)

I haven't seen the foreign versions, so I don't know if that would have changed my opinion, but I think it is definitely worth seeing in the theater, if your apprehensive catch a matinee, but I found the movie to be very enjoyable.
