OT: Hattrick Formation Match-Up

My opponent in the cup is slightly better than me. He runs a VERY offensive formation, as follows:

******************Keeper******************

***Defensive***Extra Mid***Normal***Defensive***

***Normal***Offensive***Offensive***Offensive***

**************Normal***Normal***************

How would you, more expert than I, deal with this? He changes a bit, based on opponent, but this is his usual setup, looking back 5 weeks worth of matches.

Well, his players are set to offensive, but he doesn't seem to generate that much offense. I think he's got prototypical mids and is basically playing them out of position as offensive.

That said, he seems to be getting excellent defense out of his 3 defenders, so you'll have trouble cracking that nut... If you're sticking with 4-5-1, I'd say counter by forting up yourself, put your wb's on defensive. His attack is usually stronger on the right, so put your left winger on normal, or even defensive, and go offensive on your own right wing.

With a decent possession edge from your superior midfield, I forecast a 2-0 win.

OTOH, I could be completely insane...

I agree, the 4-5-1 is a good counter for both the 3-5-2 and the 3-4-3. I also wouldn't change anything from what Brillig said above, If the guy scores a lot of goals, playing both WBs defensive is almost a must, it will more often than not shut a good high scoring team down enough that the game comes down to special events.

My division leader plays the same formation and last time I played him I used almost the same formation that Brillig described above, except I put both right side middies on offensive. I won 1-0, unfortunately that kept him in our division this season, so I'm not so sure if that was a good idea.

Brillig and The_herd, thanks very much for the response and well thought out advice. I could use the win cuz the $$$ from another home Cup game would help immensely.

I've always been a fan of insanity.
