FOOL 2074 Regular Season

Man, am I the only one excited for another season of fake baseball?

I'll be at work, of course, so I will have to wait to see results tonight.

Like last week, I like this team's chances. But it will need to count on Esteban Ortega holding up, or building up a good enough record early on and surviving his decline. If Ortega can dominate for a little bit at the start and do okay through the end of the year, and I get the performances I hope to get out of my other starters, including Martinez, the rotation should be fine.

The bump in bullpen quality didn't happen last year because the kiddie corp I brought up still needed some seasoning. They seem very good now, though, and I have brought up three more solid looking pen rookies, including Ricardo Sanchez, who might be my future closer.

Adding Rodriguez to the middle of a lineup that was already pretty good should make the Hooligans' lineup a threat to lead the league in runs scored. Or at least I hope. I am certainly less worried about my offense than I am the pitching.

Alan, sorry about Chile, dude.

Tasan, I just got a Rangers bottle cap from the Diet Pepsi bottle I was drinking. I am thinking about throwing it away.

Good luck to everyone tonight.

Tokyo hopes to make the playoffs after a year off.

We've got a young slugger in Manuel Estrada joining the team and former #1 overall pick Eduardo Gonzalez moving from the bullpen to the rotation. Other than that, it's pretty much the same pieces.

Good luck to everyone!

No worries here, that is my wife's country not mine I was rooting for the U.S. to win.

My wife had class today so she had me texting her game updates during the game. After the third goal, she just stopped responding

Anyways, I just got home from softball, we won.. come from behind win. I went 2 for 4 with the game winning rbi. (Do they even keep that stat anymore in baseball?) I did have an error in the field though.. Went way to my left to snag a ground ball that might have been through to left field otherwise. I made a good snag, but I should have just held on to it. Instead through it into the dirt halfway to first as I spun around. Since we don't play on astroturf, that ball was never going to make it to the first baseman.. oh well

So I might be a few minutes late to starting the sim tonight. Got to clean up, shower, eat dinner and drink like 8 gallons of water (it was hot today!).

Since I'll be starting a little late, why don't everyone tell me their predictions for which teams will make the playoffs tonight?

Your franchise hasn't won the classic since the 20's, you don't have time to be tired of the playoffs. Isn't this your time?

Voermans Dominates Chico
Saturday, April 21st, 2074: "He was kind of teasing them with his offspeed stuff and his fastball was moving everywhere," the Brunswick skipper said after Umberto Voermans shut out the Chico Rebels 11-0 on a 2-hit masterpiece.

Voermans registered 3 strikeouts and issued 1 walk in a gem of a performance.

"We just didn't swing the bats very well... or he just pitched good, whichever way you want to look at it," said the Chico manager after the defeat.

Martínez Selected RL's Best Pitcher
Tuesday, May 1st, 2074: Alejandro Martínez's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 6-0 in April, the 31-year-old Hammersmith hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 36 in 44.2 innings, logged an ERA of 2.01 and allowed opponents to hit .253 against him.

CL's Best Starter is Kimura
Tuesday, May 1st, 2074: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Yoichibei Kimura still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 26-year-old starter for Tokyo was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and 1 loss with 27 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 2.05 ERA in 44 innings of work.

Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Tuesday, May 1st, 2074: Drew Harkness was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 25-year-old left fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 25 games Harkness batted .358 for Brunswick, slapping 38 hits in 106 at-bats with 6 home runs, drove in 22 runs and scored 23 times.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Tuesday, May 1st, 2074: Youngster Enrique Castro emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Boston deserved the honor, batting .392 with 12 home runs and 23 RBI. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Castro enjoy the limelight.

Mosley Pounds HR #300
Wednesday, May 16th, 2074: He has done it!
Chris Mosley has reached the 300 home run mark. He did it today, but the Hammersmith Hooligans still dropped the game to the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines by the score of 5-2.

"Number 300 was hard to come by. I think the pressure was getting to me a little bit. I got a call a few days ago from a couple of guys that have been through this and they just said, 'Keep going, have some fun. Just be you.' I think that helped me a little bit, having those guys make a call to me and try to settle some of the nerves down."

On his historic day Mosley was 2-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.

Lifetime Mosley has played in 1502 games with a .305 batting average. Among his 1858 hits are 420 doubles, 25 triples and 300 home runs. He also has scored 1037 runs and driven in 1241 runs.

Pérez Earns May's Top Batter Prize in RL
Friday, June 1st, 2074: In the last year of his deal with Brunswick, Jorge Pérez has created some waves by winning May's Republic League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .402 batting average with 9 home runs, 33 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He also worked RL pitchers for 5 walks and a .441 on-base percentage.

Apex's Thompson Collects May Batting Honor
Friday, June 1st, 2074: Terry Thompson battered Continental League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Thompson told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 28 games, Thompson hit .393 with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 29 runs.

This season Thompson is batting .337 with 5 home runs. His totals include 27 RBIs and 38 runs scored.

RL Premier Pitcher is Toronto's Barrios
Sunday, July 1st, 2074: The hottest hurler in the Republic League last month was Francisco Barrios of the Toronto Marlboros. He caught the attention of everybody in the league with some eye-catching stats, good enough to win the RL Pitcher of the Month.

In June, Barrios starred with an impressive 5-0 record. In 6 starts he gave up 33 base hits and struck out 30 in 43 innings with a 1.88 ERA.

To date this season Barrios has compiled a 11-2 record with a 3.07 ERA in 16 starts.

Ynequez Earns CL Top Pitcher Trophy

Sunday, July 1st, 2074: The Pitcher of the Month for June has been picked and the Continental League award went to St. Petersburg hurler, Alberto Ynequez.

During the month, Ynequez was impressive with a 1.79 ERA and 4 wins and no losses. In 40.1 innings he struck out 27 and gave up 40 hits and 11 walks.

This year Ynequez has registered 10 wins and 4 losses in 19 starts with a 2.69 ERA while registering 81 strikeouts and 26 walks in 113.2 innings.

Barrios is lights out thus far this season, but he's going to need some help if the defending champs intend on getting back into the playoffs.
