FOOL 2073 Regular season

The first day of summer means the 113th season of FOOL baseball!

I'm running a little late tonight thanks to playing Pool boy, so I'll start things up in a few minutes!

Take your time!

Just ordered a Papa John's XL Spicy Italian. I haven't had pizza in about 3 months so it's going to be one hell of a treat.

Tokyo should be very good this season, but I've got a suspect 4th starter that might make things interesting. Only one rookie on the team, a 28 year old high contact catcher with zero power.

With three daughters, I ended up having pizza three times last week!

Anyways, ready for the sim now. Getting exports!

I've had plenty of rabbit food, I've lost 50 pounds in the last 3 months. I'm pretty much at my goal weight so I'm reincorporating beer and the occasional pizza into my diet

Hornby Slugs 400th Home Run
Saturday, April 29th, 2073: Chico's outstanding left fielder Hayden Hornby joined the 400 home run club today at Ballpark of Toronto with a booming blast in the Rebels win over the Marlboros. They topped Toronto 5-4.

On his milestone day Hornby had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored.

Tongue-in-cheek he told the press, "Don't tell me when I get close to the next milestone. Just tell me after I reach it. It will be easier to hit that way."

Hornby has a .307 career batting average and has hit a total of 400 home runs.

For the record, I hate how the AI signs quality players with high contract demands to MLC's before the season. I'm going to have to remember to offer those next year and see what happens.

With a 1.40 ERA, Abbott has a 2-3 record for a team that only lost 8 games in the entire first month.

Explain that one!

Jones Spins No-Hitter
Wednesday, May 3rd, 2073: Napa Valley's Anthony Jones came up big today at Ballpark of Napa Valley with an exceptional 2-0 outing against the Tokyo Cyclones. Not only did he whip them, but Jones held them hitless, too. He brought his "A stuff" to the ballpark, finishing with 11 strikeouts and 2 walks -- a day good enough to get his name in the league record book.

"My arm was a bit sore in warmups," confessed Jones. "Sometimes you go out there and you're not feeling all that hot. You get into the game... and all of a sudden in the seventh inning you look up and see the scoreboard and think to yourself, 'Oh, my goodness, I have a no-hitter!' You're so focused on what you're doing, it just happens."

Then he added, "Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter. We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. At least the batters are happy with that kind of win. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up 9 runs, though. But hey, a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. This kept the Cyclones off balance and guessing the whole game."

To date this season Jones has compiled a 5-0 record with a 1.28 ERA in 7 starts.

That is right, Napa Valley's Anthony Jones becomes the first player in 113 years of FOOL history to pitch 3 no-hitters in his career!

Monday, May 15th, 2073: It was a banner day for Robin Hutchesson, who collected his 2500th hit in the Halifax 2-1 win over Apex. Hutchesson went 2-4 in the game as both Winter Wolves and Assassins fans cheered Hutchesson, when he reached base after his hit.

Tuesday, May 16th, 2073: José Valéncia was bubbling over with joy, celebrating his 3000th hit in the Boston 6-5 victory over the Cyclones at Sony Park.

The 39-year-old second baseman achieved that milestone with 2 hits in 4 at-bats to join the exclusive 3000-hit club.

His manager said, "José plays the same every day and every inning -- with all his heart. That's why he's such a special player."

Valencia is the 35th player in FOOL history with 3000 hits.

On a side note, it seems to make the big news, you needed to play the Cyclones this month.

Jacobs Touches All the Bases, Hits for Cycle
Wednesday, June 7th, 2073: "It's too bad I can't do that every day," Ed Jacobs said with a smile to reporters after today's game. "It would do wonders for my batting average." Jacobs had every right to be in a good mood after hitting for the cycle today against Boston at Ballpark of Boston. The Winter Wolves won the ballgame 10-4, he hit for the cycle, had a 4-for-5 game and boosted his batting average up a few points. The 28-year-old Halifax second baseman chalked up 2 runs batted in and 3 runs scored for the game, too.

Who says you can't have it all?

He told the press that a triple is the tough hit to get in a cycle. "As soon as it left the bat, guys jumped off the bench and were rooting hard for me to have enough gas to get there," Jacobs said. "It was hard to enjoy it... I was breathing too hard... you got to really be in shape to run out a triple."

E. Jacobs hit a solo-shot off L. Murray in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, tripled in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.

Jacobs is currently batting .262 with 3 home runs and 26 RBIs.

Marés Hittin' on All Cylinders
Friday, June 23rd, 2073: Apex's Javier Marés hit for the cycle today, but his club still went home with their heads hung low. The Assassins were upended by the Baltimore Charm 8-5.
"It was a good game for me," Marés said. "I wish it could have been a good game for all of us."

The Assassins third baseman sparked the offense with a truly special performance, hitting a single, double, triple and home run to add his name to the record books. Still, it wasn't enough to stop Baltimore. Marés went 4-for-4 for the game with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.

J. Marés doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off H. Hatsutori in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

Looking at his stats this year, Marés has compiled a .191 batting average, while hitting 5 home runs and driving in 25 runs. He has played in 64 games and scored 14 runs.

Republic League #1 Hurler is Morales
Saturday, July 1st, 2073: There was little doubt around the Republic League that Freddy Morales would be awarded Pitcher of the Month honors for June. Today, they made it official, naming the 24-year-old Colorado Rancheros starter the latest honoree.

He thoroughly dominated the hitters who stood in against him, holding them to a .264 batting average while fashioning a 2.40 ERA in 5 starts. His record for the month was 4-0 in 30 innings of work.

Presently Morales has a 7-4 mark in 15 starts with a 5.45 ERA. He has given up 78 hits in 71 innings, struck out 36 and issued 35 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .292 batting average against him.

Ortega Top CL Starter in June

Saturday, July 1st, 2073: Esteban Ortega took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in June. After all these years playing ball, the 35-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-0 for Halifax last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 2.18 ERA in his 4 starts, tossing 33 innings and striking out 14.

This season Ortega has a 8-6 record with a 3.52 ERA

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Saturday, July 1st, 2073: Youngster Javier Marés emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Apex deserved the honor, batting .212 with 4 home runs and 10 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? Hutchesson Socks 400th HR
Monday, July 10th, 2073: Halifax Winter Wolves slugging right fielder Robin Hutchesson swatted his way to the 400 home run mark today as the Winter Wolves fell to the Napa Valley 5-2.

For his part, Hutchesson chipped in 1 run batted in, scored 1 run and collected 1 hit in 4 at-bats, but it was not enough to turn the tide.

"It was a special day for Robin," the team publicist said afterward, "He was disappointed at the result, but everyone was all smiles as he crossed home plate. We're proud of him."

In his 2101-game career, Hutchesson has hit at a .322 clip and collected 2533 hits with 357 doubles, 32 triples, 400 homers, and 1331 RBIs.

Cooke Picks up RL Monthly Pitching Honor
Tuesday, August 1st, 2073: In July when the Hammersmith manager wrote the name "Cooke" on the lineup card, he knew he had a good shot at winning. Start after start in the month, Jack Cooke took the hill, took charge and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 5-0 mark and 2.08 ERA in 5 starts. The gifted Hooligans star pitched 30.1 innings, fanned 17 and held opposing teams to a .233 average.

For his outstanding mound performance Cooke was named the RL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

Up to now Cooke has compiled an ERA of 4.04 with a 13-3 mark over 20 starts. He has 62 strikeouts in 122.2 innings and has held opponents to a .266 batting average.

July's CL Top Pitcher is Pelicans Ynequez
Tuesday, August 1st, 2073: When Alberto Ynequez takes the hill, chances are good for a St. Petersburg victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and 1.54 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 35 innings, fanned 15 and held others clubs to a .217 average.

That's why the Pelicans star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Continental League.

This year Ynequez has posted a record of 14 wins and 5 losses with a 3.45 ERA. He has appeared in 25 games and struck out 79 in 148.2 innings.
