hattrick question

Yes. I broke down and started a team.

I won my first match 2-1, but my keeper sucks. How much is a reasonable cost for a "passable" keeper? It seems the costs range quite a bit in the transfer market. Is there something else I should look for other than keeper skill, wage and age?

Edit: I refuse to do a dynasty though...at least for now.

I have an inadequate and get 2 stars every week. (price around 10K). Don't spent more than 20K for an inad.

I used to have a passable one, but the $100K cost can be spent more wisely on more critical (read midfield) players !

First of all, Bee, WELCOME ABOARD!!! Make sure you list your team in dacman's Officialish list of FOFC Hattrick on the dynasty board.

Secondly, if you are patient enough, you certainly can get a passable keeper for much less than 100K. I signed two at the same time, after almost a week of scouring the transfer market. One of them (which I kept) was 21 and valued at 175K and I paid him 67K. The other one was 27 (passable also) and I paid him only 45K at the time. I put him back on the market and got 66K back for him

Make sure you stay disciplined, set yourself a limit (to not get into huge bidding wars) and don't get too emotive/frustrated after the first 4-5 attempts have gone down the drain. I had set my limit at 50K and decided to keep on going with one last bid at 65K on my first keeper.

Good luck with your team and don't fear asking questions. There are a few good Hattrick heads around here, much better than mine, that I can say.

dola to add that a good keeper will help your defense ratings in games tremendously. I got my first solid ratings on defense on my passable keeper's first game.

Alf, I agree that midfield is important, but I'm certain your team would gain a lot from a passable keeper. Decisions, decisions

Threadjack for a second, I had a quick HT question, and didn't want to add yet another new post.

Does a players form go down if they don't play a game? Or how does that work? I have a couple of guys with Superb and Excellent form right now, but I want to start my scrubs, well the people that suck even more than my sucky starters in the Cup game tomorrow, but I don't want to hurt their form.

Superb form? Never heard of it....

Anyway, if a player doesn't play in a given week, then he runs a much greater risk of having his form drop when training takes place on Thursday nights. From what I have seen, a player missing one week doesn't run much risk, but if he misses two or more weeks, then form tends to drop like a rock.

I've currently got bids in on 3 passable keepers all under 40k. I doubt I'll get any of them for the current price, but I'll limit myself to 50-55k I think. Thanks for the info guys.

Bee- also when looking to buy players be sure to check their form, and the leadership (you don't really want an anti-clown). It is said that 2 levels of form are equal to 1 level of skill, so an Inadequate keeper with Solid form is the same as a passable keeper with inadequate form....Also, if you get a high inadequate keeper with good form then he will put up 2 stars...which is good considering most passable keepers only put up 2.5 stars.

2 things,

first, make sure that the one guy listed above is not a clown, I've heard some people will spend a lot of money on a guy with popular and solid leadership, even if he doesn't know how to dress before the match.

as for cheaters, I had a very positive outcome with my problem. One guy had made 3 sales, 4 sales, and 5 sales to 3 other teams, each of whom seemed to do very little but make those purchases. I sent in the standard report form, and after about a week of obsessing about it, I sent GM-Apoc a hattrick mail, asking what the average turnaround time. He said anytime between a day and a month, depending on how obvious it was. He also invited me to tell him who I was interested in. So, I sent him a summary, and it was less than 24 hours before this person was locked out. Since they seem to get hundreds of complaints each week, this seems like a pretty good response time .
I should have sent Apoc some flowers or something, heh.

Keepers can be kinda tricky to know if you got a good deal or not. I just bought this guy for $29,000.

Jarmo Valsta (10751712)
20 years, passable form, healthy
Assessed value: 145 000 US$

Stamina: wretched Goaltending: inadequate
Playmaking: disastrous Passing: disastrous
Winger: disastrous Defending: disastrous
Scoring: disastrous Set Pieces: wretched

But, but, but -- you can get an inad keeper for $8-10K, right? Sure, but look at this guy's value -- he's a very high inadequate, probably 1-2 weeks training away from passable, so a darn near passable for $29K -- that's worth it if a passable goes for $50-80K.

Lesson to be learned: not all inadequates, passables, etc. are created equal.
