It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

So Comedy Central began airing re-runs of IASiP, and I decided it'd be good to start dvr'ing them and watching from Season 1 Ep 1 to it's current season.

I've seen a few here and there and really enjoyed them. But the first two episodes of season 1... just not that funny. Is it the thing about it being a new show or is it always this hit or miss?

Tell me it gets better, my roommate who has never seen the show but was down to watch based on my recommendation, was flat out bored with it.

It gets much better. I remember thinking the same thing when I watched the first season. I think it was around the third season when I got hooked.

I think it's a combination of both the show getting better as they start locking in their characters, as well as you as a viewer getting used to what they're trying to do with the show. Stick with it through the end of the first season.

For me it was season 2, I think, when Danny Devito became a regular cast member.

Yeah. There are a good 3 or 4 episodes in the first season I don't think they ever topped. It does get a slightly different feel with Devito though. Especially in season 3.

I watched an episode last night. I guess I don't get that kind of comedy, because nothing was funny to me.

Yeah I think you have to give the DeVito episodes a chance before making any decision. He kind of breaks the groups up into 2-3 different stories every week so it will be Devtio-Charlie/Mac-Dennis/Dee-Waitress instead of season one where I can remember all 4 of them doing the same thing for the whole 30 minutes. Some people don't like the show but I think it is as funny as most of the stuff out there on tv. Best all time? Probably not but one of my favorites that is on right now.

Definitely avoid the epiosodes where they are battling with the two gay dudes who sleep with their sister. Those epiosdes were horrible and will not give you a good feel for the rest of the show.

"No means no, but she's not going to say no because of the implication...."

This season is pure god damned genius so far. They are doing something right.

A bit old, but hadn't heard this until today:

Which, if you’re a “Sunny” fan thus far, is all the good news you’ll really need to get excited for season seven.

But in case it’s not, there’s also this: Rob McElhenney gained fifty pounds to play Mac this season. Why? For the sheer comedy of playing his character as a fat guy. “It’s been disgusting to watch him go through with this adventure,” said Charlie Day. “We were a little on the fence about it for his own personal health and safety,” he added, “but it has definitely made Mac a lot funnier.”

Fat Mac does sound like a gold mine of comedy.

Video of my earlier quote. This exchange still gets me laughing every time I watch it.

Embedded is edited. Link much better is full version, click it.

One of my favorite shows ever.

And I agree, this past season was top 2 IMO.

New season started this past week. Pretty Woman song with the dead hooker in the hallway was great. Fat Mac delivers.

Loving it.

So I've finally gotten around to working my way through this series on Netflix and wow, it has become one of my favorites. Between this and Archer I've got my laugh ratio way, way up.

Same with me. Up to season 3 now and it's a great show! Haven't watched Archer yet though.
