Izuldean Rules Greatest TV Show Tournament Selection Show

Here we are, sports fans! We've had the regular season; now it's time to move forward with the FOFC Izuldean Rules Greatest TV Show Tournament Selection Show, sponsored by Allison Stokke and jbmagic AI Associates.

TV show fans everywhere are Stoked for Stokke

The four #1 seeds didn't change at the close of the regular season, despite a stiff challenge to Cheers from The Simpsons that made things very interesting over the last couple weeks. While the brackets have yet to be officially revealed, here once again are your #1 seeds.

#1 seeds
Seinfeld - 34 wins
The Wire - 26 wins
The Sopranos - 22 wins
Cheers - 20 wins

Certainly those four shows have to be considered championship contenders, although The Wire, as we've said all season long, has questions about just how big a base it has outside of their devoted core. The Sopranos has recently been dogged by suggestions that it may not be as great a show as some originally thought and Cheers has had to fight just to keep its #1 seed.

We'll be back soon with a look at our first region, but for now, a commercial break from one of our sponsors.

And we're back! First up, we have....

The Solecismic Region

(1) The Sopranos
(16) A-Team

(8) How I Met Your Mother
(9) Quantum Leap

(5) Sports Night
(12) Freaks and Geeks

(4) Dexter
(13) Batman: The Animated Series

(6) The Shield
(11) Entourage

(3) Arrested Development
(14) 24

(7) Family Ties
(10) Battlestar Galactica (new version)

(2) South Park
(15) I Love Lucy

We'll ask [b]Professor Bowtie[/] his thoughts on this region. Professor Bowtie? Who do you see coming out of the Solecismic?

I have to tell you when I first started seeing the shows come up, I thought this was going to be a cakewalk for The Sopranos. And then South Park showed up to make things very interesting. There's no doubt in my mind that we'll see the regional finals come down to The Sopranos and South Park. They're far and away the two heavyweights in the Solecismic, like being in a football conference with only two teams who have elite passing attacks.

That's not to say this is going to be a dull region by any means. Admittedly, The Sopranos, Dexter, and South Park should all win handily, but the rest of the matchups in this bracket look like potential upset specials. I'd particularly call The Shield, Family Ties, and, what may come as a surprise, Arrested Development particularly vulnerable. In fact, it wouldn't entirely shock me to see a double-digit seed sneak into the Sweet 16. 24 looks like an especially dangerous Cinderella candidate.

Thanks, Professor.

Thank you.

And now it's time for another commercial break.

The Shield vs. Entourage will be epic, great first round matchup. Dexter as a 4 seed is an atrocity. Should be a 2 seed.

Next up...

The Pumpy Tudors Region
(1) Cheers
(16) WWE Monday Night Raw

(8) Survivor
(9) Fraiser

(5) Star Trek
(12) Homicide: Life on the Street

(4) Deadwood
(13) Happy Days

(6) Married With Children
(11) Dr. Who

(3) The Cosby Show
(14) Newsradio

(7) Buffy the Vampire Slayer
(10) Saturday Night Live

(2) The West Wing
(15) Mystery Science Theatre 3000

Wait, how did Pumpy get involved? Not even Kathy Griffin can figure this one out. Welp, this is a job for a superhero, then.

Professor Bowtie's Bracket Breakdown

Much, much more powerful than the Solecismic region. Cheers, Star Trek, Survivor, and The Cosby Show should all steamroll their opponents, but MST3K got arguably the most favorable draw it could've for a 15 vs a 2. I don't see Cheers surviving the region. Even its mid-tier seeds can knock off them off.

I'm really looking forward to watching the Buffy vs. SNL matchup and Deadwood and Married With Children are in interesting draws as well. Happy Days looks like a very strong 13 here and they could very well outduel Deadwood in this showdown.

If I had to pick a winner out of this one, I'd say The Cosby Show, but I'm not certain. Cheers could very well pull it out, but in my opinion, this bracket is deep enough that I wouldn't even feel totally comfortable trying to pick a regional final matchup. I'll say Cheers vs. The Cosby Show, however, in an 80s firefight.

We're now halfway through the draw, so let's go back to the commercials.

Thanks, everyone.

I'll get the other two regions up tonight and then start the tournament either tonight or tomorrow.

Since I've never run one of these before, I'm not sure how many days each set of polls should last. I know I'm planning on limiting it to four polls a set so as not to clutter up the boards. Is 3 days per set enough time? Or should I make it a little longer?

I would suggest weekdays only; I'm pretty much a Mon-Fri, 9-5 FOFCer. I'm sure there are people who are just the opposite though.

I would suggest 2-3 day on the voting, but stagger it so one starts on Monday, one on Tuesday, etc. That gives people a couple days leeway to forget to visit the site because they are actually busy with real life...

Back to the action! We now present...

The Izulde Region

(1) The Wire
(16) Top Chef

(8) Mad Men
(9) Beverly Hills 90210

(5) Band of Brothers
(12) Burn Notice

(4) The Wonder Years
(13) 6 Feet Under

(6) The Office (US)
(11) Oz

(3) Lost
(14) Monday Night Football

(7) Curb Your Enthusiasm
(10) ER

(2) The Simpsons
(15) Roseanne

Fans of The Wire will no doubt snap this T-shirt up

Professor Bowtie's Bracket Breakdown

Another very solid region, including the tournament's only cooking-themed show in Top Chef. The Wire, The Simpsons, Band of Brothers and The Office (US) all look like certifiable first-round winners, but the rest of these represent intriguing matchups that could go either way. I think ER is somewhat underrated as a 10 seed and Monday Night Football could give Lost a tougher challenge than the 3 seed would be comfortable with.

It's a tough region to predict. I think The Wire is in a good enough position here that they should at least make the regional finals to face either The Simpsons or Lost and at that point, it's anybody's game for a trip to the Final Four.

And now, commercial time before we reveal the final bracket.

And finally we have...

The Eaglesfan27 Region

(1) Seinfeld
(16) Friday Night Lights

(8) House
(9) Friends

(5) Big Bang Theory
(12) The Office (UK)

(4) The X-Files
(13) Futurama

(6) Firefly
(11) Alias

(3) Family Guy
(14) Northern Exposure

(7) Twilight Zone
(10) Twin Peaks

(2) M*A*S*H
(15) Law & Order

Will the force be with the cast of Seinfeld?

Professor Bowtie's Bracket Breakdown

A lot of people have already commented online about the strength of the Izulde region, but the Eaglesfan27 region is no slouch, either. Seinfeld, M*A*S*H* and Family Guy is as strong a 1-3 as you could hope for and Friday Night Lights is the single strongest 16 seed in the tournament in my opinion. Outside of the Big 3, I don't see any obvious first-round squash matches. It should be a good challenge for all the shows involved.

Seinfeld will win this region, unless M*A*S*H can surprise the tournament's #1 overall seed in the regional finals. That should certainly be an epic battle in any case.

And that concludes our telecast of the Izuldean Rules Greates TV Show Tournament Selection Show. We begin tipoff tomorrow night at 10 pm CST.

This may be Izulde's finest day of posting in his life (based on just the commercials).

BTW, don't sleep on the Wonder Years in the Izulde bracket. That is a show that a lot of people will have trouble voting against when the time comes -- I haven't met too many TV watchers that don't have fond memories of it.

If more people had watched Mad Men then you would/should be worried about the second round too.

That said, I'm waiting for a point where my work/personal life will allow me about a month to blast through The Wire. Based on all the raves, I'm excited about checking this show out.

It's such a shame Mad Men will be knocked out in round. I'll be voting against it because of my recent obsession with The Wire, but damn that second round matchup is brutal.

Mad Men is next on my list of shows to catch up on/start watching, I've heard great things. However, The Wire is the best TV show ever made. There is nothing that can possibly be said to overhype the show to someone going into it. Its going to lose to the Simpsons or Seinfeld I assume, but only because too many people haven't seen it. I would be shocked(and appalled!) to learn of a single person on the board who watched all 5 seasons and would vote against it at any time during the tournament, even against the other 1 seeds which are all great shows that I love.

By the end of this I'm going to resemble Billy Packer's ACC homerism, but someone has to do it!
