Catchall Good News Thread

A lot of us here at FOFC seem to be going through a rough patch lately, so I figured we'd start a catchall good news thread for some stuff that may not be major enough to deserve its own thread, but still good news.

Nothing to report personally, but one of my former students just got into the ultra-competitive nursing program and will be able to fulfill a life-long dream of nursing.

Didn't die today. Although that may be bad news, been trying to decide on that one for years now.

Got a referral today from a major Realtor whose business i have been trying to earn. I have been sending him SEO optimization tips to help his site rank higher and it looks like it is starting to payoff.

I lost my keys last night while shoveling snow. I guess they weren't hooked properly to my belt loop like they normally are, so they fell off. I didn't realize it until about 2 hours later, and I had no idea where my keys were. I searched the house, I searched the piles of snow outside, and I searched everywhere in between. I was up half the night searching, and then I couldn't sleep because my wife and I were pretty concerned for our safety, given that we didn't know if someone had found the keys outside and swiped them.

To make a long story short (too late!), I spent another couple of hours searching today. I rummaged through a mass of snow that's about 30 cubic feet, and I found the keys. That's the most relief I had felt in a loooooong time. Now we don't have to worry about getting our locks changed and fearing that someone will freely walk into our house and swipe our stuff.

Did the Sunday morning ritual of taking my 17-month-old son to Trader Joe's (his favorite store - they fawn over him) to do the weekly shopping while Mommy was at Yoga. Picked up some flowers and when we heard her coming through the door gave him the flowers and said "take these to Mommy". Judging from the look on her face, there's nothing cuter than a toddler lurching his way towards you at high speed with a bunch of flowers.

Where do I start?

* Saved a bunch of money by switching my phone/net/cable services to the evil empire!
* Bought a cheapo laptop - a mighty cool toy!
* Bought a router, network adapter & wireless printer & set 'em all up by myself!
* Went to Las Vegas and won!
* Brought home some SB prop bets and won those too!
* Got my city tax refund! Six bucks!!! Whatever shall I do with it?!

dola, and my youngest son was able to do his first kata all by himself last Saturday. He started karate last September and had learned a blocking form but this is his first real kata. He was so proud to tell me when he came out of his Saturday morning class.

We got an offer on our house in Vermont that's been on the market for years. We gave up on it and moved a year and a half ago for our sanity, but the mortgage payments on top of our rent have been gruesome, and getting worse with a downturn in our business.

I had real fears that the place might never sell. If this goes through it's going to be a huge peace of mind, and help on our checkbook which is not looking good right now.

The single greatest word in the English language?

BENIGN!

My girlfriend was diagnosed with a BIRAD Class 4B tumor on her breast last month. After minor outpatient surgery (they used a new technique wherein a needle sucks out the tumor mass, requiring only a 1/4 inch incision) to remove the tumor (before I left for the States), and a week of waiting, she called me up to tell me the good news from the pathologist.

It was only a Fibroadenoma, a non-cancerous tumor.

Needless to say, I was overjoyed by this news.

I did stand up in San Francisco last night and it went well. I really need to move there. Doing it Sunday in Santa Clara, and Monday in San Jose.
