The only basketball league whose warmups include robes and hood..

Whites-Only Basketball League: All-American Basketball Alliance Bans Blacks, Foreigners

Because nothing says All-American like keeping blacks and foreigners out!

There's some real gems in that article from the grand wizard, I mean commissioner:

"Thus, he says, the All-American Basketball Alliance would be 'a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like.'"

"Lewis said he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of "street-ball" played by "people of color." ...

"Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?" he said. "That's the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction."

At least Isiah Thomas won't be able to destroy the league.

Then again that might actually be a good thing.

No problem getting arenas to host games for this.

I'm opposed unless they bring back the fundamentally sound set shot and underhand free throws.

Have they hired Rick Barry to be the Commish yet?

What about the short shorts? That's where I draw the line.

This is so dumb. Jason Williams is white and plays more "street" than someone like Tim Duncan. Hooray for stereotyping.

Obviously there would have to be a "White Chocolate" clause to disallow Williams and others like him.

WHAT?! Are you trying to imply that this league isn't based on logic, facts and hours of statistical analysis?!

Say it ain't so!

Me thinks somebody at the Chronicle (and a lot of bloggers along with them) has been had.

Google up the league president, Don "Moose" Lewis.

Lemme see here, he's been the head of the (other) IBU Boxing organization, he's been in charge of the (other) ABA back around 2001 and then became the Global Basketball Alliance which lasted one game promising "Mix in the best of the Harlem Globetrotters, the XFL and its cheerleaders, and professional wrestling - and you have the red, hot, GBA! You will see players "high-fiving" each other, teams with their respective music, disc jockeys spinning club music, players at the end of the game tossing their jerseys into the stands, players screaming after a successful shot or key play, players in the stands at halftime, music artists at intermission, and ticket stubs redeemable for discounts on merchandise and admission to entertainment establishments.

Oh, did I forget to mention that he's also been a pro wrestling promoter, best known for booking a few shows around Atlanta back in the late 90's promising basically every wrestler in the world short of a resurrected Andre the Giant and then failing to produce any of them despite $25-$100 ticket prices? (Details here in the wiki bio of one of his numerous scam victims)

Yep, I do believe a whole bunch of folks are falling for another one of his publicity schemes. Appears to have worked too.

Oh, in case anyone wondered, I didn't have that much recall on him but I knew the name sounded vaguely familiar. Almost didn't figure it out until I hit on the bit about the wrestling scams he pulled & then it came back to me. That was a pretty big deal in the southeastern indy wrestling scene, complete with message board wars involving his wife & some of the people he ripped off.

edit to add: Now here's one I missed back in 2003: a combo porno & pro wrestling movie

Moose is behind this? LOL

I've actually had dinner with him a few times...one of guys he used to partner up with on some of these schemes (GBA being one of them) is a longtime acquaintance of mine. Whenever Moose is involved with anything, the plan is simple. Get people to give him money by any means necessary, then skip out on all obligations.

Oh hell, I had forgotten this one too

Back in 2007 he joined forces with Canadian wrestling promoter Ernie Todd to reform the "NWA" ... but in this case it was the National Wrestling ASSOCIATION
MoondogManson.com :: View topic - nwa cuts all ties with TNA.

He said he was drawing on his experience both as an independent promoter and his time spent with Dale Gagner in the AWA (that'd be the fake AWA that got the other guy sued).

Sensing a trend here yet?

Wow, BYU has more black players than this whole league.

Why can't he promote something useful, like a guy in a leather jacket jumping over a shark.....oh never mind.

I was really hoping this league would come true....

That shot clock thing has completely ruined the game.

Forget that: instead you must start a 'Harlem Globetrotters of Bowling' league.

The ghosts of Jesse Helms and George Wallace can be the leagues legal representatives.

FWIW I talked with my brother last night because I drafted an NBA2k10 team with Nash, Dirk and Birdman, that if we traded Barbosa for Kirk Heinrich and Rashard Lewis for Troy Murphy we could have an all-white starting 5.

He thought it was an amusingly fun idea.

Barbosa must have heard me, because the next game I played with that team he went off for like 40pts.
