Looks like Hartford will miss it, largely...only 4-8 is being considered at the moment.

actually snowstorms are fun - as long as you don't have anywhere you absolutely need to be and stuff

Warm weather has its advantages for sure. But I also like the chilly days. You can only wear shorts and flip flops so many times during the year.

you laugh, but i know plenty of cali-folk who love snow. we also don't have that pesky "ground shaking" issue that you all have (not that it bothers me). Or those yearly fires...

Earthquakes never bugged me.

The fires got old fast, though.

I think I probably will be okay--I'm supposed to get into JFK around 11AM. The forecast still looks like the snow won't be a problem until a couple of hours later.

oh i know...i lived out there a couple years. still...they could potentially have an effect much more costly than a snowstorm.

Only 6-8 inches out in Central Mass it sounds like. For once Boston might actually get more snow than us.

I meant more in the sense of people fearing the "big one". The only people who seem to care are the news reporters who want us to care. Sure it could happen, but since there is no warning, what can you do? Just pray you arent on a freeway overpass when it happens.

is there a good site that displays a map of expected total snowfall accumulation? weather.com and wunderground.com always seem to failin this area.

I am super excited. I moved to the city (from the suburbs in Virginia) 5 years ago. We have yet to have a significant snow since then. The last was in February of 2003, a year and a half before I moved. I think being in the city during a "crippling" snow storm will be a lot of fun. As Subby said, some predictions are over 20". The conservative ones seem to be 10-15".

Not quite 34 and a cold mix of mostly rain falling right now in Raleigh. We're right on that cut-off line in terms of the precip which isn't all that unusual. Ice tends to be a much more common event than snow in this area.

However, not far to the north and west is where they're expecting to get a decent haul of snow. They're already getting walloped in the mountains right now (expecting nearly two feet by tomorrow night over there). Closer in, places like Greensboro are expected to get about half a foot overnight, but worse yet, they're supposed to switch over to freezing rain tomorrow which will add a nice little crust of ice to everything.

This is from ABC in Philly. Looks like they've up to 8-14 inches for my area since this afternoon.

We arrived at Saldanas last night on the NJ/PA border, looks like we just made it since there are reports a lot of airlines are canceling flights for today. As of now no snow here yet but it looks like it is just a matter of time.

A friend of mine wants to go see Avatar. I'm trying to convince him to stay home, but he's not good at following directions. The picture I posted above is of my cat freaking out when I opened the door. It's deceiving because right next to my house is sheltered from snow, and it's been blowing. I have a large tree/bush thing in the front of my house, it's dropped halfway over from the weight of the snow.

NE Philly has 5-6 inches at this point. Heavy wind is keeping cars an inch deep and sidewalks 8 inches or so. I don't have the snowfall from 2008 but this storm has to have a chance of eclipsing the entire previous year. Normal in Philly is around 20 inches and it was half that at best last year.

Yikes. I remember when I was in Maryland they'd basically shut down the schools and cities for a dusting - I can't imagine what 15-20 will do. Hope you stocked up on rations (or have a store down the street)

Just finished up a week-long training class in Arlington and am visiting my Mom and Dad in No. Virginia.

I've seen more snow today than I think I've seen in 4 German winters combined. I'm just thankful I didn't have to go anywhere today.

I've been feeling a little bad for my neighbor with a dish that's got a TON of snow sitting in it.
