I'll be there. 400 level so I hope I don't get blown away by the 40 mph wind gusts.

Win or lose, it's been a hell of a 365 days for the Fightins.

Just don't go get swept, k thanx.

Go Dodgers.

Any significant interest I've got in this post-season rests with them. I don't have much like for any of the other 7 and really don't have much of a strong dislike for any of them either, although I imagine one or more teams (and/or their fanbase) will annoy me enough at some point in the next week or two to at least give me somebody to pull against.

Well, now I'm hoping that the Phillies NLDS run does end with a 3-0 sweep.

What a performance by Lee. Tomorrow presents a challenge though as the Rockie's starter is a sinkerballer and he'll have the help of the shadows for the afternoon game.

I get the feeling Hamels will have to be dominant tomorrow for a win.

Eh, even hating the Yankees just ain't like it was in the good ol' days. Jeter & ARod make me kind of shake my head sadly and chuckle at their prices & profiles whereas I had major dislike for the Randolph, Dent, Piniella, Reggie, Guidry, Gossage, Lyle, et al era Yankees.

Nice to see Pedro Martinez on the Phillies playoff roster. It'd be fun to see him come out out of the bullpen in an important spot, though he's probably just there for emergencies/mop-up.

They keep him around in case one of their potential playoff opponents decides to hire away Zimmer from the Rays.

OMG, Jeter already got to second base and A-Rod couldn't bring him in. That right there is why Jeter is clutch and A-Rod is a choker

I did like how the announcers said "Doesn't Jeter always get a hit in the big spots" when Jeter hit a lead off single. Is the first batter of the game a big spot?

Wolf dodged a major bullet getting Holliday looking and then getting out of the inning with just one run allowed. Now if he can just settle down...

Belliard chasing some bad pitches trying to go yard, but I'll take four hits and two runs in the first inning off of Carpenter.

The Official Broadcast is having technical difficulties as well, so that could be the problem everywhere.

3:52 for a nine inning game. Now I'm usually one of the last people to ever complain about the length of a baseball game, they're meant to be enjoyed ... but damn.

That's what happens when the two teams combine for about 800 runners and strand about 793 of them.

It's all about how slow the pitchers work. That really stands out when you watch an old game on ESPN classic. I don't know if I could do it without TIVO. Pitcher gets the ball, he sighs, he grabs himself, he sighs, he looks around, looks at the catcher, another deep breath, then the pitch.

Figured I would bump this, since people are still using the Regular Season thread for postseason posting.

Glad to see the Halos get a much needed win. Friday night's game will have the extra bonus of including the one and only Chief Rum in and among the red shirt masses at the Big A. I'll bang the thunder sticks a little louder in mock salute to the FOFC.

Blame Lester!

Seriously, though, I was working out on a treadmill while watching much of the first half of the game, and I am usually pretty cognizant of the passing time while doing that, with the machine ticking it off. And the time between pitches for Lester was often over 20 secs, sometimes even more than half a minute, particularly when there were men on base (the bases loaded 3rd inning was a real mess). There were a ton of times when it seemed like Lester was poised to throw forever, and the Angels hitters kept having to step out to get their timing back right and re-set themselves (which didn't help the length of the game).

Tomorrow night should be fun for long games--first the Yanks, then the Sox-Angels.

Let me first preface this by saying the Angels fully deserved to win, and these mistakes in no way cost the Red Sox the game.

That game had perhaps the worst umpiring I have ever seen. And CB Bucknor is behind the plate tonight, so it should be interesting.

Agreed on Bucknor. Didn't really have an issue with the other three infield umpires.

The CI call by West was perplexing, as well as the strike zone.

and at least 3 blatant blown calls on the bases (Kendrick was out both times on the errors at first and Figgins should have been safe at third on the double play in the late innings). Almost like the umps forgot it was the postseason and decided that we were in preseason instead, haven't seen such a badly called game in quite a while.

Now we head to the North Pole where just about anything can happen in nine innings.

By the way, Charlie, both Curt Schilling and Steve Charlton are unavailable for your bullpen tomorrow night you ass.

I'm definitely someone who thinks bad umpiring/reffing is part of the game, and I never understood why we totally accept a player striking out or dropping a ball, but an umpire making a similar mistake somehow taints the outcome and legitimacy of a game.

(And as cringe-worthy as this is as a Red Sox fan, you can't really complain when the team scores ZERO runs)

That being said, the calls last night were kind of hilliarous. Especially this one:

What I don't get is how referees and umpires seem to be immune to repercussions from bad calls. If a manager/player argues with an umpire in baseball, for example, he will more than likely be thrown out of the game. Even if his point is valid. Meanwhile, the umpire goes on about his business as if he is some deity or something that should be worshiped. Sorry, but you are just a referee and can/should be replaced if you fuck up.

Remember up the thread when I said someone would probably give me a reason to pull against them before the playoffs were over? Granted, an easy enough prediction but still ...

Quote:
"That ball got lost in 50,000 white towels shaking in front of Matt's face," Wainwright said. "It doesn't really seem fair that an opposing team should be able to allow their fans to shake white towels when there's a white baseball flying through the air. How about Dodger Blue towels?"

Suck it up buttercup. Or better yet, after that weakass whine, just suck it.

it would be fairly easy to put some sort of sensors in place to get first base calls right. They have crap like that in Tennis, and nobody thinks it takes away from the sport. Put a sensor into the base, put a dongle on the runners shoelaces. Bag lights up before the balls in the glove, it's safe.

Then again, that call above is so bad, it's probably an outlier.

There were two other pretty bad ones in the same game, although I'll agree usually the base umps are spot on.

Putting sensors on the bags would be so easy to do when you think about it, but it will also put a lot of people out of a job. Not sure you really need more than 2 umps at that point...

DOLA - Wainwright came off as a complete bitch. What a ridiculous complaint, as if people waving towels are anything new. Are we not allowed to wear white to a baseball game next?

At least you only have to root against them for one more game though

I don't really have much of a problem with the phantom 2nd base touch when they're trying to turn two though. I'd much rather not see the SS get drilled, or have guys careers ended early cause some scrappy Pete Rose wanna be goes in with his spikes too high.
