RLCS Game 1:

Mauro Morales pitches for Spring vs Angel Reyes for Portland

Spring gets a single in the third, and that will be the only hit that they get in the entire game. Reyes pitches a complete game 1 hitter to give the Grocers a game one victory.

Portland scores one of their runs on a wild pitch in the third, but the big inning for them is the 7th where they score on a RBI double from Juan Ortiz and RBI single from Ken Bailey.

Portland 6, Spring 0

CLCS Game 2:

Finley Clement pitches for Boston vs Juan Rodriguez for London

Jorge Galvan singles home two runs in the bottom of the first and the Bishops take a 2-0 lead. Boston gets one back in the next inning with a Mario Rivera RBI single.

In the fourth, things fall apart for Clement....

a lead off walk to Ricardo Rivas
Juan Rodriguez reaches due to error by the pitcher.
Dale Rigney is walked to load the bases.
Vern Barber is walked to walk in a run.
Octavio Ruiz lines one right at the right fielder for the first out of the inning, but another run scores.
Jose Salas reaches due to another error by the pitcher.
Maximo Guerrero strikes out for the second out of the inning.
Jorge Galvan gets hit by a pitch to bring in another run.

That is all for Clement as he is pulled from the game by this point. Matt Hicks comes in to pitch and he strikes out Gehringer to end the inning. London scores 3 runs on 0 hits however and pretty much take the game due to this inning.

London 9, Boston 3

London leads the series 2 games to 0.

RLCS game 2:

Jorge Perez pitches for Spring vs Adrian Lorenzo for Portland

The RLCS has a big meltdown inning similar to the CLCS. In this game it occurs in the bottom of the 7th. Sin-young Myo comes in to pitch for Spring. He gets van den Berg to ground out for the first out of the inning.

Juan Ortiz then walks
Ken Bailey gets on base due to an error by the Third Baseman on a pop up.
Joseph Forbes lines a single that loads the bases.
Armando Duran takes a bases loaded walk to score a run.
Ron Demers pops out for the second out of the inning.
Jose Guerva doubles to the right-centerfield wall that scores all three runs.

That is all for Myo as Salvador Aguilar comes in to pitch for Spring. He starts off just as poorly however..

Patrick Rosebotham is walked
Cristian Garcia singles home one run.
van den Berg is walked to load the bases.
Juan Ortiz doubles home two more runs.

This brings a third pitcher of the inning, Gabriel Torres.

On Torres first pitch, the ball gets past the catcher and van den Berg scores from third.
Ken Bailey singles home another run after that.
Joseph forbes strikes out looking to end the inning mercifully.

Portland gets 9 runs on 5 hits and cruise in game two.

Portland 12, Spring 4

Portland leads the series 2 games to 0.

RLCS Game 3:

Jorge ROdriguez pitches for Portland vs Ursula Moiteiro for Spring

Spring scores first as Joe Silver leads off the bottom of the third with a double and later scores in the inning. Portland jumps into the lead in the top of the next inning thanks to a Jose Guevara 2-run shot that travels 452 feet.

Spring scores two more in the bottom of the 5th to go up 3-2 and Portland responds in the top of the next inning, scoring two runs on an error by the Spring third baseman. Portland now leads 4-3.

Spring ties it up in the bottom of the 6th on an RBI single and then the Lions jump into the lead in the bottom of the 7th as Jon Anthony doubles home two runs and takes a 6-4 lead.

That remains the score into the 9th inning. Spring brings Francisco Castro in to close out the game. He gets Guevara to fly out to start the inning. Rosebotham singles with one out, Garcia is then hit by a pitch before van den Berg strikes out for the second out of the inning.

Juan Ortiz singles to load the bases and then Ken Bailey singles home two more runs, putting Portland into the lead 7-6!

Joseph Forbes follows by hitting a 357 foot 3-run home run over the right field wall to put the Grocers up 9-6 and Spring now finds themselves in trouble. Duran strikes out to end the top of the ninth.

Jorge Lopez comes in to pitch in the bottom of the 9th for Portland to try to get the save.

LaVergne grounds out for the first out of the inning, but then Bray singles to give Spring some hope.

Anthony strikes out and Zaragoza flys out to centerfield to dash that hope and Spring grasps defeat from the jaws of Victory.

CLCS Game 4:

Pedro Contreras pitches for London vs Edgardo Alonso for Boston

Boston must win to stay alive in the series. The game remains scoreless until the 5th when Vern Barber smacks a 3-run Home Run to break the tie. Boston gets two back in the 6th to close the deficit to just one.

In the top of the 7th, London scores another run on a Guerrero RBI double but once again Boston responds bringing home two runs in the bottom of the inning on RBIs from Rivera and Bremini to tie it up 4-4.

In the bottom of the 8th, Boston scores on a Rick Parker RBI single to go up 5-4.

In the 9th, Moran comes in to try to save the game for Boston. Moran's 54 saves is a FOOL-X single season record.

Moran starts by walking Romero and Salas back to back. Romero is pinch-ran for by Francisco Cisneros who leads a double-steal with no outs to put both runners into scoring position.

Guerrero strikes out swinging ... but the ball gets away from the catcher... Guerrero reaches first, but more importantly Cisneros scores to tie up the game!

Moran strikes out Galvan and Gehringer , then forces Bookelman to ground out to end the inning, but not before London ties it up!

Boston is unable to score in the bottom of the 9th and that forces extra innings.

In the top of the 10th, London goes down 1-2-3.

Boston gets three straight singles in the bottom of the 10th from Lamb, Ontiveros and Hill to score the game winning run and they stay alive for another game!

Boston 6, London 5 (10 innings)

London leads the series 3 games to 1.

The FOOL-X Classic is set for 1972!

Portland Grocers (90-72) vs London Bishops (107-55)

This is the first trip to the Classic for the Grocers, while this is the 5th time in 12 years that the Bishops have made a trip to the final series. A Bishops championship would tie them with Virginia Beach for the most FOOL-X Championships.

van den Berg goes 1 for 4 with a GRAND SLAM in the 5th inning and Demers goes 1 for 2 with a HR, 2 RBI and 2 walks for Portland in the win.

The best player for London in a losing game is Octavio Ruiz who hits 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI.

Cristian Garcia puts Portland on the board first with a 2-run homer in the top of the 5th. London gets one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning when Bujold himself triples and then scores on the next pitch on a ground out to cut their deficit to just one.

Portland adds another run in the 7th on a Jose Guevara RBI double and that is enough to hold on to win.

Rodriguez pitches 7 innings, giving up just 1 run on 7 hits to get the win for the Grocers as they win despite being out hit 9 to 6 in this one.

Portland 3, London 2

Portland leads the series 2 games to 0.

London gets one run on a RBI double from Barber and then a second run when he scores on a passed ball in the first to take a 2-0 lead. Portland responds however with 6 runs in the bottom of the inning, including a 2-run home run from Cristian Garcia, and Contreras does not even make it out of the first inning before being lifted for a reliever.

Portland goes on to an easy win as Duran goes 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI and Guevara goes 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI in the win.

Portland 8, London 2

Portland leads the series 3 games to 0.

Portland scores first, a RBI single from Joseph Forbes in the bottom of the 1st. London gets the run back in the top of the 2nd however when Mark Gehringer lines a RBI single to left field to tie the game up 1-1.

London gets an Octavio Ruiz RBI double in the third to go into the lead 2-1, but Portland gets a run back in the 4th on a Guevara RBI single to tie us back up 2-2.

London jumps back into the lead in the 6th thanks to a Schmitt RBI single and a RIvas RBI single back to back to put them on top 4-2. An insurance run in the 9th inning locks up the first win of this year's classic for London.

White pitches 8 innings, giving up just 2 runs on 7 hits to get the win for London.

London 5, Portland 2

Portland leads the FOOL-X Classic 3 games to 1.

London scores 5 runs in the top of the first, on an Octavio Ruiz 3-run Home run and a Jorge Galvan 2-run HR to go up 5-0. A Dale Rigney solo home run in the 4th puts them up 6-0 and seemingly in control of the game.

Portland comes back however in the 5th with 5 runs, including a Joseph Forbes GRAND SLAM that pulls the Grocers within 1 run! In the bottom of the 7th, Portland completes the come back with a Ken Bailey sacrifice fly that knots the game up 6-6.

That remains the score into the 9th when London steps back in front on a Vern Barber Home run that puts them up 7-6. Portland goes down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning, and London wins.

London 7, Portland 6

Portland leads the series 3 games to 2.

Jose Salas hits a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 4th to put London ahead 1-0. That remains the game's only run until the 7th when London gets two more on a Dale Rigney RBI triple and a RBI single from Barber that gives the Bishops a 3-0 lead.

That is the score entering the 9th, Portland's last chance in this game.

Against reliever Adelino Ticano, Bailey leads off the inning with a single. Forbes and Duran both follow with singles. Duran's Single drives home a run to bring Portland within two with no outs and runners on first and second.

London brings in a new pitcher, John Green to try to close out the game.

Guevara hits one deep to centerfield.. but still playable. Caught for the out, and the runner tags from second to make it to third.

Demers hits one to the left of the first baseman. He ranges over and gets the ball. Fires to second base for the fielder's choice but a run scores. 3-2 is now the score with a runner at first but two outs!

Garcia takes four straight pitches for balls to put two on.

Van Den Berg is unable to do anything however as he strikes out swinging without making contact once to end the game.

London 3, Portland 2

The FOOL-X Classic is tied up 3 games each!

After going up three straight games in the series, Portland loses the next three, including one to former Grocer Bujold. Trying to get off the snide, they score 1 run in the second inning, 3 in the third and 2 more in the 4th to take command of game 7.

Bardino pitches solid enough to give Portland the win, going 6.2 innings, allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits despite walking 6 in the win.

Duran goes 3 for 4 with a double, RBi and walk while Juan ortiz goes 2 for 4 with a triple, RBi and 3 Runs scored for Portland.

Portland 8, London 2

Portland leads the series 4 games to 3.

London strikes first, a Jose Salas rbi single in the first puts London up 1-0. The Bishops must win to force a game 9 in the series. A loss here sends them home.

The 1-0 score holds for most of the game as both pitchers are lights out. White makes a mistake in the bottom of the 7th however and Rosebotham makes him pay for it by hitting a 436 foot 2-run Home Run that puts Portland up 2-1.

That will be the difference in the game as While goes 8 innings, giving up just those two runs on 4 hits, but Reyes only gives up the first inning run on 8 hits in 8 innings and holds on to get the win.

Portland 2, London 1

Having to beat Yann Bujold's team to get to the title made this one a bit sweeter. The financial freedom that trade gave us probably made this title possible, because we eventually got better and that's what I hoped for when I made that trade.

The new file is up!

We take the weekend off. Arbitration runs Monday morning. We will celebrate Labor Day by paying young players more money!

Congrats DC! I've got a bad feeling my pitching is starting to get old and my young guns are all firing blanks.

Great Job DC! We can officially say "Heeeeeeeee's baaaAaack!"

I am slowly developing a bad case of Chiefitis...an inability to win the big series no matter how many times you take a crack at it!
I think this makes 9 straight playoff appearances (Counting FOOL and FOOLX) without a championship. I still have a ways to go to reach the master, but I am frusteratingly on my way!!

Is it Monday yet?

London didn't win. That's all that matters.
