Help: this is driving me nuts
Ok so there's a male vocalist that I can't remember the name of. Trouble is I'm drawing a total blank on his songs, too. Please list possibilities in this thread. He's got probably two popular songs, late 90s early 2000s probably. Sort of a semi-falsetto high range I think. I have this feeling that his first or last name starts with E or an E figures prominently in there or something.
I really wish I had more to go on, but that's all I've got. Well, it's definitely pop music, too. Not hard edge, kind of easy, lyrical style. HELP PLEASE I'M GOING CRAZY. |

This may help. I was trying to think of a song he might have song and I thought I had one. I snapped and started singing "Fifteen there's still time for you" so I looked that up and nope, not even close. But that is *maybe?* the kind of music we are talking about. Not even 100% sure of that statement, but maybe it will get you started in the right direction. Halfway between that song and that Time of Your Life song by Green Day. If that makes any sense at all.

No that song wasn't by this guy like I originally thought. This is definitely one guy and not a group.

Enrique Iglesias was the only "E" other than Elton John in the late 90's with a #1 pop song but the longish hair, beard, and mustache doesn't match up. And I'm guessing Eminem isn't the answer either.
I also finally found a list of the year end Hot 100's and didn't see anything that seemed like a match from 97 through 02 either. So if they were hits, they weren't to that stature. I also checked a list of one-hit wonders from that era and didn't see anything there either.

I'm not positive of the E thing it's just a feeling. I also get a little bit of a "Mc-" feeling. McDuffy or something (not mcduffy, just an example). I really am giving you everything I can think of.

Not drunk. This guy just has one or two songs that I've always sort of liked and every time I've come across his name I've thought, ah ok, I'll need to remember that later and look him up and buy something of his, but I never remember his name or the songs when I'm somewhere that I can do something about it. I'm sitting here with the internet in front of me and I want to track the guy down and I'm TOTALLY blank. It's driving me up the wall. Every time I try to remember one of the songs, the stupid "Let Me Be Myself" Geico commercial comes on the TV again or something and all attempts at remembering obscure pop songs are hopeless.
please note: the geico commercial song is not related to the mystery guy at all, just an example of how hopeless this search is for me right now. |

Okay, let's see if we can narrow it down a little more.
Where did you hear the song? I'm thinking radio station here, trying to pin down the format. From your description of the song style, I can't say whether it's a Top 40 thing or an AC thing or Rockish thing or even a crossover country thing. That might at least start narrowing the field a little. edit to add: Oops, you definitely said "pop" earlier but even that can be skewed; i.e. dance-leaning, AC-leaning, kid-pop leaning, whatever

I'd say this is a pop/top 40 type radio station song.
edit: I can vaguely remember hearing the song on a tv ad for some compilation, too. Last edited by MJ4H : 08-02-2009 at 10:43 PM. |

Have no idea what triggered that but it just shot back to me. Interesting to see the things I was right about (the E and Mc) and the things I was off on (I don't hear a lot of falsetto-ish stuff now).

I would never have gotten there with him. He's not someone I associate with "pop" at all, more of an AC or even light alt-rock guy

the youngsters have no idea, pre internet mundane stuff like this would take months or even years to figure out. I use to have long lists of things I would go to the Library and try to find.

I can empathize. I remembered bits and pieces of songs from when I was a kid that would just randomly lodge into my head during the day and I could not for the life of me figure it out. Without the intarwebs, I'd have never been able to figure out that "Eye in the Sky" was a song by The Alan Parsons Project, for example (something I heard a lot on radio play as a kid, but never bothered to track who sang it and by the time I was old enough to really care about it, the song and the band had receded into history so I never researched it).

There was a song I heard once as a kid on the radio for the first time that was already old when I heard it (although I didn't know that), and it sounded so weird to me, the main part was stuck in my head forever... and it would screw me up in things I was doing.
A few years later I hear it again, and see it was Need You Tonight by INXS. Geez. |
