102 degrees is too damn hot

...and it may hit 107 today. Oregon is just gross right now. It is NOT a dry heat. I have acquired a salty crust.

Eww.

106 last week in Idaho, though that was definitely dry, and really not insanely unpleasant (I didn't even have working air conditioning, but just spent all my home time in front a fan). 104 in Vegas this weekend was a little grosser.

Supposed to hit 100 for only the third time ever. For once I don't mind being at work since we've got AC there. If we get above it's an all-time record.

Raining here.. yet again... right when I'm about to get done with work....

I'd love some hot sunny days, even if it is 100 degree heat, I can deal with it.. just no more rain. please!

Yup no global warming at all. Here in Colorado we have gone from drought ridden semi arid to being soaked with enough rain to start growing giant redwoods.

This is what sucks. Most people here don't have AC. We have a couple of fans running so it isn't that bad but the dog has to be suffering. I keep throwing him into cold showers.

I have AC in my bedroom, but there's nothing to do in there but stare at the ceiling, so I spend my day wandering back and forth between my bedroom and living room, muttering either "soooo hot." or "sooooo bored."

Everything in Phoenix is air-conditioned though, and there's no reason to go outside in the first place.

I guess I just don't get this? I understand it's unusual for it to get hot and all, but why not at least have the option to turn on the AC in a case like this week up there? Is there really a big cost difference to have an AC unit and Heater unit or are builders just being cheep?

I have no idea. The way my windows are designed I couldn't even put in a window unit if I wanted one.

Most of the homes in Oregon and Seattle (metro areas at least) were built in the early 1900s, and were designed for keeping the heat in. Air Conditioning also doesn't necessarily fit into the typical Pacific North Westerner's agenda.

Same here.

80% of houses in Portland proper were built prior to 1940. Quite a few houses don't even have the wiring needed to support central air, or even a window unit.

My friend in Washington is dying. No air conditioner in his place. He said he took the dog and drove around for an hour yesterday because he was feeling so crummy inside.

On a side note, it's been a really mild Summer here in Chicago. Only 3 days in the 80's this month and none in the 90's. I can't remember a cooler Summer in my entire life.

I'm taking mine to a small lake by my place when I get home. Yesterday we had fun with the garden hose.

We've had all of 6-7 days that were in the 80's so far this summer. Which after a couple years back is pretty amazing.

Sorry to hear everyone suffering so much. If I look outside I laugh at Global Warming. You guys must thing the end is nigh.

It's been a weird weather year around here in general. One of the biggest snowstorms ever around Christmas and lots of snow into March and now only a quarter inch of rain in the past two and a half months.

Gonna probably break the record of consecutive 90+ degree days as well (it's only three and tomorrow is supposed to be almost as hot as today).

Seattle Times reporting 102. Says libraries were over 90 degrees inside and had to be closed.

106 here now. I was even starting to consider going to get a second AC for my apartment, but I guess it's too late now to even consider:

Nearly Every Store Out Of Air Conditioners

"We usually get them in once a year," Gander said. "So, hopefully, shop early next year."

Ooch.

I live in the military housing on Fort Lewis. There's no AC here and its pretty damn brutal. I also went looking for a couple big fans or an AC unit yesterday and after trips to 2 Targets, Sears, Walmart, and 2 other small stores I was told by my neighbor that there weren't any within at least 30 miles of here because she spent the day calling around asking.

I lived in San Antonio before living here and at least there every single house, apartment, and store had AC.

I just went through the wire tango with my TV/xbox/cable/stereo/phone/modem and I'm wheeling the ol' TV into the bedroom with the AC. Looks like I'm living in a studio apartment now! AH, the high life!

Raining and low 50s in the Denver metro. We seem to have traded weather with the Northwest. Not complaining though.

It's actually not been that bad here except for the last week or two. Normally, summers in North Carolina can be brutal affairs, but much of June was spent in the 80s. I think Charlotte set a record for latest 90-degree day in a season this year.

However, it's been trying to make up for it since mid-July with temps running 90-95 pretty much every day and humid on top of that. The worst thing about it is we seem to be in a pattern of erupting thunderstorms every day and the storms actually don't drain the atmosphere, just make the humidity worse. Of course, the AC in what was our family car broke down right about the time this heat started up. Guess who's driving it as a commuter car now until we get it fixed?

We've had 8 straight months of below average temperatures, tying a record. The only thing that makes the retarded winters here tolerable are the awesome summers, but this one has been taken away. Not nice, especially after a horribly cold winter.

A cool 106 degrees when we started conditioning tonight. Luckily it had dropped to a much more bearable 104 by the time we were done.

There you go, 100 is not anything new to the area according to that link. 100-103, no difference. Oh, and before you try to tell me how different it is there and blah blah blah.....I was born and raised in Washington, I know what it's like. Every year there is heat, every year it's the same reaction, records or not. Just like here, every year it dips down below 32 for a while, a few times a winter, and it's the same reaction every year.

Cringer, you know that the west side is way different than Spokane. I've lived here all my life, this is not like the usual "Heat Wave Insert Year Here".

EDIT: And 100 on only two occasions before today isn't exactly "nothing new to the area".

Word. It's been 85-90 and a humidity that won't break interspersed with thunderstorms for a couple days and predicted for a few more. (Seriously they're forecasting thunderstorms that usually only come at dinnertime at 7-8 am tomorrow.) I had lax games yesterday and today, with 12 players (2 subs) the first one and none tonight and I wouldn't trade this weather for what we were getting last month.

Heat's awesome and preferable to the alternative. Bring on more global warming.
