Is Tevez going to be playing defense? How many strikers does your team need, anyway? I shouldn't talk, Liverpool only has one.

They said they wouldn't start most of their selling until they were done buying. I haven't given hope up on getting John Terry and Joleon Lescott seems like he'll be added any day as soon as the fog clears.

It's kind of funny, but with the sign saying "Welcome to Manchester", it begs the question.

Where did Tevez play the last two years?

I think that's the point of the sign... probably a jab that City is Manchester's "real team" where as United are made up of plastics from places like Cornwall, South Wales and London. That's certainly how the City fans see it anyway

Don't think they are welcoming Tevez. I'm assuming it's your typical 'Welcome to (insert city here)' sign that just happens to be blue and have Tevez in the background. Someone said it is in the the Town Centre.

Edit: Or what bhlloy said.

Zlatan to Barca, Eto'o going back the other way. They'll probably win another treble with that lineup.

Man Utd have sold Manucho to Valladolid in today's other big transfer. He'll be replaced in the squad by Mame Biram Diouf, a Senegalese striker from Molde FK, the club that produced United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Everton have rejected a £15m Man City bid for Lescott.

I'm disappointed, for some reason I thought the first two Gold Cup quarterfinal matches were on tonight but it's all on the weekend.

Juve were also in Serie B, so I'm not sure you can blame him.

Zlatan is awesome, I hope he scores a hattrick in the Bernabeu.

And it sounds like he would have stayed at Inter but they received a really good offer for him. (€40m + Eto'o + Hleb on loan for one season)

Buffon should have been playing for a team that could win the CL these past few years, he was too loyal imo.

Tevez is quite good, he just had a down year. He was great in the 2007-8 season in addition to being a three-time South American Footballer of the Year (2003-5).

why too loyal? he didn't need to play CL-football to earn a big contract, he didn't need it to hold down his place in the national team, didn't need it to be widely regarded as one of the top 2 keepers in the world.

maybe winning a CL isn't as important to him as staying put?

Of course it's his life and he made a lot of money and won the World Cup in that time, maybe he loves the club, loves the house he lives in, I don't know the man. I was just surprised he stuck with them in Serie B and the first Serie A season back because he's so damn good that he could play for any team he wanted and in that situation most world class players would try to get out.

Perhaps "too loyal" wasn't the best phrase but calling Cannavaro, Zambrotta, and Ibrahimovic traitors is a bit much imo.

Anyway now I'm glad he stayed, I want the other Serie A clubs to be strong so someone challenges Inter this year. Of course my first choice to unseat the beast would be Milan now that they've got Oneywu

The Daily Mail mentions that there has been speculation that City might set their sights on Nemanja Vidic. Now that would be effing hilarious.

Well Vidic supposedly turned down moves to Barca and Milan this summer (despite his wife bitching about the Manchester weather) and did just sign a new contract, don't get too giddy now.

It would never happen anyways, at least not anytime soon. Just the thought of having the audacity to even make a bid would be funny. I didn't know he had signed a new contract.

Edit: Heh. His favorite ground is Eastlands.

Assuming Man City start two forwards, what happens to the odd man out? Playing on the wing (would Tevez be happy doing this again)? Someone on the bench?

Poor Carlitos stuck out on the wing, he is much better through the middle.

Michael Owen scored the winner in his first appearhance for the Red Devils, all the brand new Owen fanboys on other boards are predicting he'll get 25 goals now which I think is ridiculous. A week before he signed people laughed at the notion of signing Owen and lots of fans have done a 180 it seems.

I know that after three straight titles, a CL, and various other cups in the past few years I should give management the benefit of the doubt but this has not been a good transfer window so far, and I don't think they're going to sign anyone else. But the squad is still good enough to win a fourth league title in a row.

Tonight's USA lineup vs. Panama:

Perkins; Heaps, Conrad (c), Marshall, Pearce; Holden, Pause, Beckerman, Rogers; Arnaud, Ching

Heaps looked really bad the last time he played, hopefully Panama don't have anyone that good on the left.

I want to see Honduras - Canada highlights, from what I hear the Canucks got robbed on a bad penalty call in the first half and were unlucky to go out 1-0.

Ching hit the post off a nice free kick from Holden. Marshall heads just over shortly after.

Beckerman has had a good tournament.

Perez gives Panama the lead just before halftime after the US failed to clear after a corner kick. He then took his shirt off but the Mexican referee did not card him, it should have been a second yellow and a sending off.

The US were the better team in the first but didn't create that many good chances.

Jimmy Conrad had to leave after a nasty collision left him looking like a boxer who just got KO'd.

Nice goal from Beckerman to tie it up. Now let's not slack off after a good beginning to the half.

Damn Holden was close to making it 2-1 there.

The US wound up winning 2-1, Cooper won and then scored a penalty in extra-time.

After the match there was a tense situation where the Panamanian team hounded the ref, following him all over the pitch, one of their players (Binoy the thuggish centerback) was red carded after the whistle which you don't see everyday.

It wasn't the best performance by our B-side but they got the result, setting up a third game with Honduras in two months.

I caught them on FSC last night after USA - Panama. Although Stalteri does grab the attacker's arm there that isn't called a lot of the time. But Canada blew lots of good scoring chances after that unfortunate call.

Costa Rica are 3-0 on Guadeloupe in the second half in tonight's first quarterfinal.

Awesome goal in the second post up, I love the reaction of the player further forward about 40 seconds in.

Concerned about Wenger's comments about not needing reinforcements.

If Arsenal fail to win anything again this year despite receiving 25 million from Adebayor's sale and Wenger choosing not to spend it ... well, I'm almost certain it's time for him to go.

Looks like ESPN Deportes/360/maybe ESPN 2 will also have the Bundesliga, to go with La Liga.

Also, the US-Mexico game WILL be broadcast in English, but on a network few of us have, Mun2 (an English language network owned by spanish language network Telemundo, aimed at young english speaking Latinos)

Check Your Local Listings for U.S.-Mexico Qualifier - Goal Blog - NYTimes.com

ESPN also recently reached an agreement with GolTV to show games from Spain’s La Liga on its Spanish-language Deportes (and ESPN360.com) and will soon announce a similar deal with GolTV to carry games from the German Bundesliga.

If Arsenal didn't need replacements before they do now, Nasri (one of Arsenal's new signings) may be out till November with a broken leg.

Actually, from what I have heard, mun2 is supposed to be in almost as many homes as FSC, which really isn't many for either, in the 20,000,000s.

I also heard today (somewhere, can't remember) that the spanish broadcast of US v. Mex should have english closed caption, if anyone cares. At this point I am used to watching matches in spanish. I kind of enjoy it as it has helped me pick up a little more spanish actually.

Sven Goran Eriksson has been named Director of Football at League 2 Notts County. That is rather surprising.
