Fight Night Round 4
Anyone else excited about this game? I played the first 3 games to death and the demo seems pretty solid. Online play with the game has always been fun and maybe we can get some FOFC matchups going.

Played the demo a lot today. The controls take some getting used to. The more I played, though, the more I was able to fight like a boxer and not like a Tekken game and started really dominating the opponent (probably the easiest level).
Can't wait to get this one. |

I gotta admit: I'm really excited to play as Tyson.

You have to use the analog stick to throw punches, no more button mashing.

Hopefully they strike the right balance between 'boxing' and action. This franchise is a lot of fun when that balance is struck. They've done that to mixed degrees in the past iterations.
Anyone heard anything on if there are any changes to the career mode? |

I was really looking for this, but now that i have UFC undisputed... it all will depend on how deep is the career mode (and i don't have a lot of hope).

I gotta be honest: first thing I'm going to do when I get this game is matchup up Ali v. Tyson and let it play out.
...then I'm going to take Manny Pacquiao and dominate. |

Yes, in FN3 you could use the right analog stick to throw punches, but using the buttons was an option (that I always eventually took with the FN games). In this one, you can only use the stick. They did make some improvements. In the last game(s), you had to hold the left trigger and perform the punch to throw to the body. Now (except for jabs and straights which still require the left trigger), you just either move the stick left or right to throw a hook to the body, or to the left or right and down (to the "corner" of the stick) to throw an uppercut to the body. It makes throwing to the body much easier. Also, to throw a haymaker (and the animation for it has been tuned down), you hold the right shoulder button and perform the punch. Now more "reaching back" on the right analog stick, which always made the punch take way too long. A few other changes: No more parry move, which was always the thing I hated the most about the previous games. You can also weave by using the left stick by doing the same motion as you would to throw a hook on the right stick. I'm sure I am forgetting somethings, but the sticks are used to do more things now, and it's going tot ake a bit getting used to (at least for me it will since I didn't use the sticks to throw punches in the previous games) |

Umm so far not liking the control scheme at all. I used the sticks in FNR3 too, but the system was better, right now i just throw random punches with little control to the kind of punch and aiming.
Sad to say this as i loved FNR3, but unless the career mode is really deep, i'm afraid i'll pass and i'll keep enjoying UFC.

I haven't played any of the Fight Nights but downloaded the demo to this. I really wasn't impressed at all.

Using the buttons for throwing punches may make it into DLC.

I just played about an hour and a half of the demo and thought it was pretty cool. The controls were decent, though I kept throwing uppercuts when I was trying to throw hooks. Practice will probably help with that. I think I lost my first 6 fights without winning a single round, but eventually got the hang of it and won a few fights. I had some good stunning blows, but no knockdowns. This game looks like it has a bunch of potential.

Week 2 of Q&A on OS.
Fight Night Round 4 Q&A: Week 2 - Operation Sports Career mode length: The better you do, the longer your career goes. Can fight into your late 30s. You will be warned several times that you need to start winning or you'll be done, and the game is more forgiving to a streak of loses if you are in your mid 20s as opposed to your mid 30s. |

I'm hoping to be able to pick up this game if I can find a way to afford it. This unemployment thing really sucks. I've got all kinds of time to play new games, but I hate spending money on them.

I thought I had heard it was slated for Wii this go around, but looking now I see no evidence of that?
Did I dream it or has a time line change occurred. |

Dl'd and played the demo.
I love the control scheme. So much easier to head-body combo and create opportunities with regular punches and haymakers.

This game is sensational. Just feels good to play. I started a legacy to get a feel for it and I am currently in the semis of the opening 16 man amateur tournament. First two fights were totally different. First guy was a can who tried to brawl with me and I won a decision from. The other guy was a counter puncher who almost KO'd me but I won the first 3 rounds and escaped with a 2 pt win.

Really nice trade-in deal linked over at CAG. Trade in three games from the list and get FN4 for free. I'll probably offload three old sports games on the list and cash in on this deal.

I must be turning into such an old man...I played the demo last night and while the game itself seemed really good, I was getting dizzy from the background spinning quickly as the fighters moved around the ring and circled each other.

I was having the same sort of issues. Are there any sliders in the game? I like the feel of the demo but I'd like to slow it down a little so a speed slider would be perfect.
Love how fluid the combos are now. I've always hated the minigames in the career mode and I'm sure they're back and as aggravating as ever. I'm curious about how the styles are represented also. One of my main gripes with Undisputed was the lack of difference height/reach plays overall. You can't use jabs effectively to stay outside. I hope this does a better job than the previous FN games also in that regard. Still undecided on grabbing it. Anxious to hear more impressions. |

There are sliders though I have not toyed with them yet.
As far as styles, so far there are plenty of different styles. In my Legacy I just was obliterated by a guy who didn't have much power but was relentless on the attack, totally using his speed to stick and move. Then he'd get inside and pummel me when I was gassed. I thankfully rebounded with a fight vs a bigger LHW who was living off the jab and fighting a conservative fight. I wore him down with body shots and in the 4th round of a 6th round fight which I had dominated the action, he went for broke because chances of him winning a decision weren't good. He got wild and I timed an uppercut that floored him for the KO win. The hardest fight I've had though is vs a Southpaw who just brawled. It was a blast. Both guys were knocked down several times but thankfully I won on points. This is a lot of fun. |

Anybody posting any videos of their fights yet? Does the game have that functionality built in? I'm anxious to see some action.

Yeah, they even built that into the demo. Unless the retail game is different (have not gotten it yet), you have to be pretty quick to it. It only keeps the last 20 or so seconds so if you want a video of something, you have to get it right away (unless I missed something). |

Picked this up today. Created a heavyweight in legacy mode and fought through the amateur tournament.
Thus far, I'm very impressed. I'm just a casual boxing fan, but this is the closest I've seen a game come to actually feeling like boxing rather than button mashing. The fighters are varied in their styles and none of the 4 fights I fought felt like the other. The first two fights were rather uneventful other than landing my first knockdown as the bell sounded in the last round against my first opponent. My third fight in the tournament was against a guy that stayed close to me trying to pound the body while sneaking in uppercuts here and there. I won, but it was frustrating because I still suck and struggled to use my jab to keep him off of me. The fourth fight was a guy that simply went for a knockout from the very beginning. Nearly everything was a powershot to the head. I won all 4 fights on points with a knockdown in two of the fights. |

Another flash knockdown later in the same fight. There is something incredibly satisfying from scoring a flash knockdown.

I'm having a lot of fun so far with the fights, but I can't stand any of the training exercises in Legacy. I'm thinking about just simming that part.

The training takes practice. It took me several times to get the hang of the maize bag, double end bag and the one where you have to push the bag forward. The two sparring ones are really easy to get the points you need. You can practice them outside of legacy mode. I think it's under "My Corner", but I don't have the game on so I'm not sure.
The one I'm still struggling with is the last combo one (where you have to throw certain punches in order). I still end up messing up a few of the combos and getting a Prospect score on it, so that one I still sim. |

Legacy mode is a massive improvement over FN3. The end of year awards are a waste of time, though. It seems random, and some just don't make sense (why have a "best round" award and not say which round it's for?). CPU retirement is a bit off too. Too many CPU guys retire way too early. But aside from those two things, legacy mode (so far) is great. |

Yeah, the combo one is the one that pisses me off the most. Although, I don't like the one where you push the bag either. The others I'm getting better at. I just had a really great clean knockout which has become my favorite of my young legacy (I need to work on the camera angles but it shows the main action): |
