Browser Help

For all you techies out there -- my laptop is having some trouble with internet explorer. When I have a memory-hogging game like FM or Civ open, Internet explorer has a very low success rate -- most of the time, nothing loads, and the few times that something does, going into gmail only works in 'basic mode' or whatever it's called. However, google chrome works fine for the most part -- I'd say about 95% of the time I load a page, it works fine, and the few times it doesn't work. Does anyone know why that would be happening just in explorer, and what I can do to fix it there?

I'm using 8.0 -- I guess that's the beta?
