Very interested in this race. It might be the first year ever that I'm not rooting for the triple crown, because I want Rachel Alexandra to win, especially after the efforts of two other owners to block her entry on a technicality.

I generally haven't been that interested for at least the last 5 or so years, but I'm also more interested today and rooting for Rachel Alexandra because of those tactics.

agreed, really happy to see the closing speed of Mine That Bird. What a horse!

Mine That Bird just had too much traffic at the end, but certainly proved he was no fluke.

Well, maybe Borel can win the Triple.

Not bad for a guy who dropped out in eight grade.

Good tagline from one of the DRF writers: "Good for her, and good for him."

I am guessing that she will not run in the Belmont, and that he will, likely with Borel back in the irons. The chance for a jockey triple crown this year looks pretty reasonable to me, whomever he's riding.

MTB's move today wasn't quite as visually spectacular as his Derby move (very few are) but he really did show a lot.

MTB seemed to get his slingshot momentum blocked at the top of the stretch. With a little cleaner run, who knows....

True, but RA also had to come from the widest post. Put her in a better slot and it could've been a blowout.

Has anyone ever been to the Preakness? I just realized yesterday that it was in Baltimore and thought it would be cool to go to a Triple Crown race. Lousville is too far away- it was the halfway point from KC to Richmond where we stayed between two 9 hour driving days. But I could do a day trip to Baltimore from here or stay overnight. Has anyone tried before? Are tickets expensive, logistics difficult, etc?

If you're willing to do the infield with the great unwashed (there are some fairly open spaces, but you'll get dirty and drunk by osmosis even just getting there) then it's fairly easy to just buy tickets on-site and get in. Parking is a mess (either shuttle in on buses from nearby designated areas, or fend for yourself in the neighborhoods) but it's not hard to get yourself inside. More costly now that you can't bring in your own refreshments, though.

It's the pretty standard big-event sports thing, though. If you want the experience (and to see a lot of tits, which you definitely will at the Preakness) then there's no substitute for being there. If you want to watch the event closely, then you're far better off watching on television.
