Person From Your State You are Most Proud Of?

Of all of the people from your home state, which do you consider to be your biggest pride?

It's a tough choice between Jeffrey Dahmer and Ed Gein.

I did a search to see who is from my state. We got Tiger Woods, John Steinbeck, General George Patton, Goerge Lucas, Robert Frost, Joe Dimmagio, but I am going to go with

Jessica Alba and Kate Beckinsale plus pretty much every other attractive female in the country.

Yeah, from mine it's Pearl S Buck or Chuck Yeager. I'd go with Yeager

Well, if I go back further I guess I could go Stonewall Jackson or Booker T Washington, unless someone wanted to argue Jerry West

My state will play your state in 2-on-2. We get Larry Bird and the Big O.

At halftime, David Lee Roth will entertain you and David Letterman will share a 10 ten list.

Steve McQueen and James Dean can be seen in the front row seats.

Abraham Lincoln will stop by, but he's just passing through.

Garfield entertains the children.

So does Michael Jackson.

And Dan Quayle provides comic relief.

I looked up people from north carolina on wikipedia. I learned 3 things that I wasn't aware of.

1) Michael Jordan moved to Wilmington, NC as a toddler, but he was born in New York.

2) Gallagher is from north carolina

3) so is clay aiken

I'm sad now.

I was going to say, "James K. Polk, maybe?" Can't be sure that we can claim Andrew Jackson and, well, Johnson got impeached (though I suppose we can pawn him off on Tennessee). Other than that...?

Yup. I don't really want to claim Jackson, trail of tears and other pretty terrible things being his primary legacy to me.

Edward R Murrow is from North Carolina. that's probably where I'd go here. As far as sports, Richard Petty though i don't really give a shit about racing myself.

If we're going born, Edison belongs to Ohio I believe.

For Ohio, I'll throw out:

William Howard Taft -- only person to be president and supreme court justice

Great achievements and a nice guy to boot, so nice he didn't make an issue of my Mom calling him a son of a bitch when he called late at night.

Fair choice there with Murrow (could also throw Kurault in as a news figure, as well). But after that, yeah, you pretty much are reduced to sports figures. Bankers like Hugh McColl wouldn't exactly rate very highly at the moment. Hmm...Jerry Richardson or Jim Goodnight, possibly. Just isn't much to be had, though, in terms of anybody with really big historical impact or to be "proud of" as the title of the thread asks for.

In the state I am currently in, it's a no brainer: Scott McIntyre of American Idol. According to Paula Abdul, his strength in competing to the top 8 has cured cancer and created world peace.

Lots of people.

Is this just people born in a state, or people that lived most of their life in the state?

From the list I found for Texas, the nerd side of me goes with Gene Roddenberry. The "I wish I was a pot head" side of me wants to go with Willie Nelson. The historical part of me says Dwight Eisenhower. The girl part of me says Mary Kay Ash of Mary Kay Cosmetics.

For my original state of Washington it's hard as well. I can go with Bing Crosby, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Bill Gates, or Adam West.
