Pizza delivery etiquette

It is snowing like a banshee outside.

I'm toying with the idea of ordering pizza. If I do so, I would naturally give the driver a large tip, because that weather is not fit for man or beast to be in right now.

I know we have some folks who have delivered pizza in the past, so let me put the question to the board - in a snowstorm, as a delivery boy, would you rather people not call orders in, or make deliveries, but get good tips in recompense?

Screw that thread. The precious seconds wasted looking for it are seconds later that a pizza, if ordered, arrives for consumption!

Won't somebody think of the sausages?!

Sunday is also often pizza night here but after a friend's b-day overnight on Friday for Will plus pizza on Thursday night, everybody else is pizza'ed out.

I love local pizza joints oppose to the mainstream stuff but if they make the trek to your place in bad weather within a reasonable time why not give them a good tip.

Oh, if I order pizza, there will be a good tip involved. The question is whether to get them out in this gnarly weather or not.

Dammit, I don't need to be craving pizza right now. I ordered last Sunday, had leftovers a couple times this week, and they gave us really good pizza last night at work. But still, I could go for a slice...

I figure they'd want the money, so I'd say go for it.

Ordered the pizza at 4:49. Expected delivery: 6:40.

So, so glad I didn't wait until 7 or 8 to order.

when i worked delivering chicken, us delivery guys only made our money off of deliveries. so if there were no deliveries, we made no money.

Order it. If they don't want to be delivering because of the weather, they should just quit.

Hopefully your pizza isn't stone cold by the time it gets there. The bags are good at keeping them hot, but in that weather, just taking the pizza out of the bag and walking it to your door could let it get cold.

I'd say tip what you normally tip, and then if the pizza is hot when you grab it from his/her hands, throw in a couple extra bucks.

Don't worry about the etiquette of ordering though..money is money, and I know I'd rather be out delivering and getting tips than sitting in the store folding boxes or whatever.

I feel old.

I've never ordered pizza online.

Of course, I haven't ordered pizza to be delivered since my early 20s, I guess.

excellent point.

Then again, I am sure there is a thread somewhere about pizza delivery, so really, this thread shouldn't exist.

I love Gallagher's, but they're further away from me than Pizza Hut is. I ended up compromising and saying well, if I'm going to order in, let's keep the drive for the delivery guy as short as possible. Normal weather, it would've been Gallagher's.

100%. Usually I tip more like 20% on pizza deliveries if the food is hot/right/etc.

The concept of Gallagher's Pizza is strange to me. Is the Sledge-O-Matic used at any point in the preparation of their pizza?

Nah.

You can tell if it's hot from the box. If the box is stone cold, the pizza probably is too.

When I say 'right,' I mean a pizza of the appropriate size, as well as other accoutrements, if I ordered a soda or breadsticks with it. If they forgot part of the order, that's what counts against them for 'right.'

Not whether the pie has the right toppings.

No, seriously. I was fooling around with the GPS I got for Christmas, trying to find some businesses that were listed. It took me to a couple residential neighborhoods, so I said 'screw it, I'll find my own way home,' and wound up passing Gallagher's.

Stopped in, had a pizza. It may not be the best I've ever had, but it's definitely in the top two.

The best pizza in Green Bay (or Appleton for that matter) probably doesn't get much past decent, but Gallagher's is worth the trip. I think the one on the West side is better than the one on the South side, but both are decent.

If I ever get down in that area, I'll definitely give it a try. It is a bit of a hike from home, but I do occasionally run through that part of the state.

Our problem is that we are overrun with chain restaurants which generally have pretty average food. The few places that tend to do better are smaller joints who often don't deliver. There are some gems in various areas of the state...just not so much in the area I am in.

Isn't Racine down Milwaukee way?

That might have to be if I catch an afternoon Brewers game or something, stop at Wells Bros. on the way back up.

It has been snowing for 24 hours here, and is expected to continue until around 5 pm.

Wind gusts are up to 50 mph.

I wonder at what point the pizza places just say "Aw, hell, naw" and button up tight to ride the storm out. I'm not ordering pizza today, mind - I just remembered this thread while pondering that question.

We have almost no food in the house, so I have been contemplating making some poor guy deliver to us in this weather. Is a 50% tip enough to make someone brave the storm?

My thought is, if anybody has been able to make it *in* to work, maybe. If the order is of sufficient size to make a 50% tip more than a couple of bucks.

Kinda both? Like, not a national chain, but there's more than one location. I think they're all owned by the same folks, though.
