Congrats Jim!

As a relatively new parent with a 16-month-old son, I can tell you that a wonderful world (sometimes terrifying, too, but don't worry about that part yet) awaits you. Best wishes.

And if you need any "been there" advice, give a holler.

Congrats Jim! But if you can afford a child you're charging way too much for FOF 4.

Congratulations Jim. Forget about sleep for a while. My daughter is 2 now and she went through collick (sp?) from about 1 month to 3 months old. It was a nightmare. Hopefully you don't have to go through that with your son.

WSU, wait until the terrible 2's start for you. The temper tantrums are getting worse and I can't wait until she's through that stage. It's not easy but the best way is to deal with them as calmy as you can, easier said that done.

Thanks for all the positive wishes. Greg came home on Monday in perfect health. Now we just have to figure out how to maximize sleep time by arranging all the time allocation sliders in his TCY management profile. I have a strange feeling if we do this wrong, he'll end up taking basket weaving in college.

I've been "vacationing" the last couple of months to help out in the house and catch up on my reading (about half of it research for the next project, the other half enjoying the work of Philip Roth, Michael Chabon, John Irving, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Steinbeck, Ayn Rand (for those of you wondering where Roark came from) and just about anything I can get my hands on. I probably won't work much the next couple of months for obvious reasons, but after that it's time to start pushing on the next project. And there will be a minor FOF4 update in there this summer. Rick will keep me clued in on what's posted on the board, and I have a folder full of email comments to review when the time comes.

I'm really happy to see how well the community is doing, even when there isn't much to say about FOF. Part of that is the natural maturing of a community, and I believe SkyDog is doing a great job stepping in and risking a little heat when needed. Ultimately, I'd like to participate as "one of the guys", maybe that'll be easier now that Solecismic Software is taking a break before moving on to hopefully bigger and better things.

What was fresh five years ago needs a new coat of paint and broader imagination today. The bar gets higher every year, thanks to the energy of people like Shaun Sullivan, Marc Vaughan, Riz, Clay and Markus and all the developers who are now part of .400. We succeed because we realize how important it is to remain in touch with the community (I'm always listening, even if it isn't as active a listening as some of you might prefer). Not only do I have to trust my own gaming instincts (that alone got me to FOF1), but over the last five years I've read more than 10,000 email messages, providing invaluable feedback.

Certainly, I'm not done improving FOF and TCY, though major updates will have to wait until the new project is done. That's the problem with this business - there's only one of me, and I need some time off every now and then. But there's so much more to do, and, since I've somehow managed to make it through five years of this, I'm far too addicted to my freedom to stop now.

At least Greg won't need to trade potty training time for time with a girlfriend.
