Smooth, which probably has a lot to do with why I prefer instant to homemade.

Is this the first time where the trout response actually could make a bit of sense? You know, if you actually liked trout?

There is no wrong way to prepare mashed potatoes. And I include 'with trout' on that list. They are the world's most perfect food.

In answer to the inevitable question: yes, I'm Irish.

Peel 4-5 large Russett potatoes. Peel 5-6 cloves of garlic. Put them into enough water to cover. Salt water, and then bring to boil. Cover and boil (slowly) for 10-15 minutes. Drain water from potatoes and garlic, and then put them into a large mixing bowl. Add a fricking ton of butter (like 4-6 tablespoons of butter), like a half a cup of heavy cream, and a cup of parmesan or sharp cheddar cheese. Smash it all up with a masher or a large whisk until it's very creamy. If it's not creamy enough for you, add a little more cream. Top it all off with......whatever you want.

Heh.

I make that like twice a month. It's a treat. If you ate it every day, you'd be screwed, but as a once-in-a-while thing, it's great!!!

These polls have taught me something about myself that I did not know. I apparently enjoy everything with chunks and lumps. Everything.

Lathum, thank you for helping me find myself. You are cheaper than a shrink.

I almost went to KFC today because of this thread. I definitely prefer lumpy though, except for that KFC crap. I"m right aren't I, am I not the only one that loves that stuff? What a dumb question, no one has mentioned so you guys clearly don't like it as much as I do.

KFC is pretty much the standard all other mashed potatoes are judged by.

Lumps are a violation of my consistency rule. I like my food to have a consistent texture throughout. For instance, biting into a soft cookie and hitting a nut is a major violation.
