My new neighbor is Canadian Rock 'n' Roll royalty!

Met a new neighbor that recently moved in to our development. Found out he is a bit of a celebrity. Ever hear of the song "Life is a Highway"? Well, he's the guy that wrote and originally performed it. Also was the lead singer of Red Rider, whose most famous song in the US was "Lunatic Fringe" back in the early 80s.

That ain't royalty ... that's a f'n legend.

"Lunatic Fringe" was a key part of the soundtrack to a lot of lives.

Why is this patio chair from the Knight's house always ending up in the middle of our back yard?

Tom is also a pretty darn good golfer. He played in the Canadian Senior Amateur and did quite well for someone who didn't have much time to play competitively until now.

I didn't know he did both of these. Awesome. I always stop on the dial anytime I catch Lunatic Fringe coming on.

Brings back memories of college. Great song -- as long as you can ignore the crappy country version that was made.

Ughh...craptastic music. And I would say Rush is canadian rock n roll royalty. Tom Cochrane is more of a court jester.

Any chance it's related to the amount of Canadian weed he likely smoked?

Cartman, I think this is a sign... a sign that Driftwood, TX needs to be home to a three day massive rock festival highlighting the best in Canadian rock:

MAPLEFEST '09!!!!

Loverboy, Bryan Adams, Alanis Morrisette, Honeymoon Suite (please tell me I'm not the only one that loved this band?), Rush, Triumph, Corey Hart, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet (they get to play one song: the theme from Kids in the Hall), Barenaked Ladies, etc... and to cap it all off Tom Cochrane comes out and plays his big hits.

Charge 100 bucks to camp on your lawn, grill up the Krispy Kreme Burgers (and charge 10 bucks for each one of those bad boys), and let the syrupy sweet rock music dribble into our ears like fresh maple syrup straight from the tap.

Well, we do have the 3 day long Old Settlers Music Festival (Old Settler's Music Festival : Austin Texas : April 16-19, 2009) here in Driftwood every year. Maybe next year it will be the Canuck theme!

Don't forget these Canadian luminaries either:

Guess Who, William Shatner (singing his version of Mr. Tambourine Man), Neil Young, BTO, Steppenwolf, and the Cowboy Junkies.

Come to think of it, that would make for a pretty good three day show!
