Brett Favre helping teams prepare for Packers?
Heard this on the Fox pregame .. A story is on PFT.. Wanted to see peoples thoughts.
FAVRE HELPED LIONS PREPARE FOR PACKERS Posted by Mike Florio on October 19, 2008, 12:14 p.m. Wow. Wow. Wow. To the extent that any doubt remained regarding the status of the relationship between the Packers and former quarterback Brett Favre, it’s now completely gone. Per Jay Glazer of FOX, Favre spent 60-to-90 minutes before the Week Two game between the Lions and the Packers educating the Detroit coaching staff regarding the Packers’ offensive strategies. Did we say wow? Glazer says that Favre initially called former CEO Matt Millen, who then put Favre in touch with the coaches. In our view, Brett’s legacy with the Packers has officially been forever stained, if not completely destroyed – unless Favre immediately denies the report, and unless people believe it. Wow. The next question is whether and to what extent Favre shared similar information with the Vikings (where his former position coach is the offensive coordinator) before Week One, or with the Seahawks (where his former head coach is the head coach) before Week Six. If so, Brett’s advice didn’t work. The Packers won all three games. |

I kind of feel like it's a non-story. It's certainly not a three "Wow." worthy story.

I'd agree. I think had you know, it'd been vs an NFL team and not the Lions, it could've been more of a story. Unless it comes out he's done it weekly, otherwise I don't see the big deal. |

Well to be fair, Brett asked them to trade him to Minnesota so he could compete against them. He said if they didn't think he was good enough to play anymore, than let him play against them.
And let's be real here, if the Packers coaching staff hasn't improved so much that the inside knowledge that he had to glean made them lose, well, then...oh well. It's no different than when a guy gets traded in midseason and helps his new team beat his old team if they play each other. There is only so much you can know and adjust to...and it's why spying is effective. Non-story, really.

No it's not the same as when a guy helps his new team beat his old team. If the Jets were playing the Packers and Favre did that it wouldn't be an issue. But to call the Lions and help them beat the Packers while he's playing for the Jets is far worse than what Bellichick did. Favre has tainted his legacy. He said he doesn't care what his legacy is but it's obvious he does because he wants the Packers to fail without him. The media will either spin this as a positive for Favre or give it limited coverage to protect their golden boy so it probably will end up being a non story.

Packer fans are already asking why Favre would throw all of us including his old teammates under the bus like this. We understand that he's angry at Thompson and McCarthy but can't believe that he's been reduced to this. I hope it's not true.

If it is true then Brett has turned into a little bitch.
He should worry about beating the Raiders.

No, see, this is how it breaks down. The Lions staff ignored the advice and got way down. They finally caved, read the advice, and thus the comeback was on. Finally they got to the part labeled as "What I would do to beat the Packers" and that was when the INTs started to happen. ![]() |

I think Tatum Bell is calling people and telling them how to beat the Lions.

In other news, I've spoke with other youth football coaches about how to beat common opponents.

Favre denies this, by the way.
Amazing that so few people care though. What if Bellichick was helping teams beat the Jets? Would that be different just because they're in the same division? What if he lost out on a free agent to say, the Packers, and decided to punish them by giving teams info from their game with Green Bay last year? Something tells me everybody would be calling for a league banishment. Last edited by molson : 10-20-2008 at 11:34 AM. |

Safe to assume that Millen is the source on this, right?
Can't imagine it being anyone currently employed by either team, and he has the Fox Sports connection.

Exactly. I was watching a game last week where the announcers were talking about some coaches working together to figure out certain offenses (it may have been in reference to the wildcat). I wasn't surprised at all. |

The story goes that Favre called Millen to set up a hunting trip and later called back for more info and such when he asked who the Lions were playing that week. Millen told him the Packers and then it went from there. The guy who broke the story was on Rome and he flat out swears the story is true and he wouldn't have gone public with it unless he knew it was 100% true. He even said another team knew about this. Nobody out of Detroit is denying this story. And of course Favre is going to deny it happened. |

Rod Marinelli's repeated no comments is telling. Plus Woodson coming out saying it wouldn't shock him doesn't help.

The story about ESPN ordering its talent not to talk about the story on air is sort of odd.

Why couldn't it be Favre himself? He hasn't been the main NFL story in like 2 weeks to a month now. Even throwing 6 TD's got overshadowed by Anquan Boldin's injury.

But that makes no sense. Favre later denied the story, so if he was the source that would mean he was playing both sides and not making up his mind about...
Hm. OK, you might be on to something.

LOL. It is too easy to fall into that complex when you hear people saying, "oh, everyone does it", as if that's suddenly a valid defense. Though, I don't know what the NFL rulebook has to say about this exactly. Last edited by molson : 10-22-2008 at 03:52 PM. |

This could really mar the Jets 8-8 season, having played with a cheater at QB.
