Is FOFC Slowing down?

I've just noticed that even on the weekdays, we aren't coming close to the amount of posts we used to. I'm probably just overreacting, but it seems different.

If FOFC is slowing down, what is the reason?

I've had the same impression.

I have my opinions on why it's happened, but who knows.

Or maybe we've just run out of things to talk about.

Or maybe this is just a repeat of a thread that happens once a year or so.

Dola.

I think we thrive on drama, as much as everyone hates it. I hate the drama, but I like to see people go insane.

Yeah, but wasn't the whole post count thing happened (which I support)? It's almost October now. Maybe the post whores have retreated.

You need to be more selective on the forums you check. We've had two leagues set up shop here, and I daresay they account for a sizable chunk of that traffic. Throw in Hattrick and Werewolf, and that's a lot of posts. The real question is, how much traffic do GD and the text sim threads get compared to a few years ago when that was pretty much it?

Yes. I think FOFC has become too balkanized.

Speaking of someone who's been posting in the 'aetheism' thread which has accumulated over 300 posts in a few days I think there's life in the old forum yet

(but I personally think some of the cause is the myriad of sub forums which have sprung up for werewolf, fm etc. - it distributes the posts and makes things look less active)

Looks to me like it is definitely a downturn compared to 2006, but 2007 was the worst* year so far.

* worst: fewest posts

I think most of the posts now just occur in forums or topics that I just don't care to visit as often. There seem to be less topics showing up, but more posts within topics.. Of course that is just my eyeballing it. I'm sure someone has some cool graph that can either prove me correct or wrong.

Never will.

I would like to correlate the numbers to product releases, though, if anyone has that information.

I believe the WW games used to count in 2006. What about the other segregated forums?

Do the total numbers get excluded from the count? Or only user posts (as far as WW). It is possible the total numbers for WW are counted even if they do not go to an individual.

It does seem like the overall trend is that things move a lot slower these days. It used to be if you didn't show up for a couple days, there was a lot of stuff to catch up on.

Now, not really.

The numbers breakdown in here is going to go on for days, if not weeks. Is that not evidence enough people that it is just fine?

I do have a list of people to get rid of which would help slow things down in a good way, but that is for another day.

I think an analysis of APPM* and ATPM** would bear this out.

FOFC is pretty slow for me at work, but at home it's fine. It's weird, since no other sites get this lagged at work, just this one. Glad to hear it's not just me.

It appears that all posts are included in the total numbers (the query doesn't add up user posts, but subforum posts).

I thought this thread would be about that too. It's kinda slow here at home. I open up the thread, and I see a graph. Nice.

At first I thought it might be because we're all older and probably are busier in our real lives with kids, etc. How many "I'm a new Dad (or Mom)" threads have there been?

Looking at the new user registrations, it seems as if we're pretty constant at people registering.

Dola,

What's funny is you can tell when Jim released a new game and we haven't had a bump in new members since 2006.

I've also noticed the slow down. Due to Gustav, I still don't have work access and can only check the board once a day most week days. It used to be that there was always at least a full page of GD new posts when that happened in the past. Now, it might be half of a page most days. Maybe the post numbers are the same, but it seems like there are less topics.

I guess I need to start bumping more threads or just responding to everything with "+1".

I believe FOFC's problem is a low on base percentage. Clearly FOFC is over-valued.

I like the amount of posts here compared to other forums I have posted on. Sometimes there are just TOO many forums and too many people/posts at one site. Here, I feel I could actually contribute to all the different conversations going on if I wanted to.

Plus I am sure the quality of posts far outweighs any other forum out there

Thus, the asterisk. From a statistical standpoint it is the easiest measurement.
