NCAA to crack down on coach-player package deals........

Interesting if this comes to pass. I know KU has had several of these deals over the years. K-State did one recently with Beasley too.

The operative word used in the SI headline that you left out in yours is "try."

They'll try. They'll fail. But they'll still make every effort in the world to hammer the little guy while giving a pass to the big guy.

Yeah, that's often the unfortunate result. A mid-major ends up getting hammered while a legacy program does the exact same thing and gets away with a hand slap.

This has absolutely zero chance of success.

I think there's a difference between K-State hiring an excelent recruiter with strong AAU ties in Dalonte Hill (if that's whom you are refering to in regards to Beasley) and hiring some kid's father to sit in an office for four years.

Most of those 'ties' were to Beasley. He didn't have overwhelming recruiting success previous to that.

FWIW.....Travis Relaford, a KU recruit, appears to be the latest 'success' story. His mom just got a job at the University of Kansas. We're not even talking about coaches in this example.

And, shockingly enough, Mario Chalmer's dad has recently moved on from Kansas after serving his four seasons on the staff.

It's nice that USF basketball is going this route, to follow the football team's exploitation of hardship transfers.

Gus Gilchrist: USF's Package Deal

Quote:
When Gus Gilchrist, a 6-foot-10, 235-pound center, signed a basketball scholarship with the University of South Florida two months ago, the Bulls landed the most electrifying recruit in program history.

But in doing so, will USF also have to acquire someone else?

Throughout his dizzying basketball travels - at age 18, he already has attended two high schools and signed letters-of-intent with three universities - Gilchrist has been aligned with Terrelle Woody, 38, his personal trainer, adviser and spokesman.

Now, Woody is in line for a job in the USF athletic department, a non-coaching position that has not been advertised and for which school officials say "there is no record" of what the job might pay or what the qualifications are. Woody does not have a college degree.
