2008 NCAA Football Prediction Thread

So we have many threads on FOFC about the upcoming college football season such as our Top 25, discussions for week 1 of the season, etc. But I want to compile some predictions before the season kicks off on Thursday. Feel free to post national championship game predictions, conference championship predictions, and just any random prediction you want. It's fun to listen to people's "bold" predictions. It's wild just how far out there some people will go. But hey, if you correctly predict something crazy such as Notre Dame winning 11 games (cough...Lou Holtz...cough) then you can bump this thread in December and mock the rest of us.

I guess I'll start.

National Championship game: USC over Florida

Conference Champions:

ACC: Clemson
Big East: South Florida
Big Ten: Ohio State
Big XII: Oklahoma
Pac-10: USC
SEC: Florida

BCS At-Large teams: Georgia, BYU, Missouri, Texas Tech

Heisman Prediction:

1. Chris Wells
2. Chase Daniel
3. Tim Tebow
4. Pat White

Bold (and some not so bold) Predictions:

Only 1 SEC team will finish the regular season with less than 2 losses.

Tim Tebow will miss at least 2 starts due to injury.

BYU will run the table and win their BCS Bowl game.

Ohio State will win a BCS Bowl game.

North Carolina, UCLA, Michigan State, and South Carolina will all win at least 8 games.

Charlie Weis will still be the head coach of Notre Dame next season despite having a second consecutive losing season in 2008.

4 Big East teams will finish the season in the Top 25.
-----------
Alright booyyyyyyyyyzzzzzzz, let's see some predictions!

It will be a shocker if both Mizzou and Texas Tech get at-large BCS bids, since a conference can only have two teams in BCS games.

My predictions forthcoming.

National Championship game: USC over Missouri

I really don't have a very strong feeling about who will be the champs. I could have gone a number of ways, but I think Missouri or Oklahoma have a better chance than most to come out of their conference slate unbeaten or with 1 loss. I voted USC number 1 in cartman's poll, so I figured I better have them win it.

Conference Champions:

ACC: FSU
Big East: West Virginia
Big Ten: Ohio State
Big XII: Missouri
Pac-10: USC
SEC: Georgia

Clemson is the best team in the ACC on paper, but they never seem to live up to expectations. I think FSU or possibly VT will sneak away with it.

USF or even Pitt have become popular choices to take the Big East, but Pat White and Noel Devine are too much. (Of course, I'm also a WVU fan, so...)

As I said, I think the B12 is a Mizzou-Oklahoma toss-up, though Texas could steal it away. Ohio State, USC and Georgia look like clear front runners in the other conferences. (Especially with Florida suffering so many injuries.)

Heisman:
1. Chase Daniel
2. Pat White
3. Chris Wells

I have a feeling that Tebow won't quite put up the kind of numbers he did last year. If Missouri really does make it through Illinois and the Big 12, Daniel has a strong shot at the Heisman.

Other predictions:

- The opposite of bold: Syracuse will still suck. Less than 4 wins in 2008.
- Not that bold: Wannstedt will cost Pitt at least 1 game with something stupid.
- The lukewarm of bold: Sean Glennon will cost VT at least 1 game with something stupid.
- Bull bold: Matt Grothe will cost USF at least 1 game with something just completely unbelievably stupid.
- Rebuilding bold: They will both struggle, but Michigan will win more games than Notre Dame.
- Slightly bold: Noel Devine will rush for 1500+ and steal some of Pat White's Heisman thunder.
- Little Bolder: Louisville will rebound to win 8 and go bowling this year.
- Boulder Bold: Colorado will continue to improve and win 8 as well.
- Non-BCS Bold: BYU and Boise State will both win 10 or more.
- The Boldest: Michigan State will upset Ohio State on Oct. 18. I think the Spartans could finish in the top 15.

D'oh! It was 1:30 AM and I was really struggling to find a 4th at-large team that I liked. Oh well...this way I'm more likely to be right I think

Where are those predictions Cartman?

National Championship game: Ohio State (12-0) over Texas (12-1)

Conference Champions:

ACC: Virginia Tech (11-2)
Big East: West Virginia (10-2)
Big Ten: Ohio State (12-0)
Big XII: Texas (12-1)
Pac-10: USC (10-2)
SEC: Florida (11-2)

BCS At-Large teams: Oklahoma (10-2), Wisconsin (10-2), Oregon (10-2), LSU (10-2)

Predictions:
- Ohio State beats USC, then goes undefeated. Texas finishes with one loss at most because...
- Colt McCoy will rebound. He will have enough weapons to make a run at the Heisman.
- Tebow will win the Heisman. Why not? No reason to think he can't put up better numbers this year if he stays healthy.
- Georgia will struggle (3 losses) with a tough schedule as Moreno will struggle. Georgia skill players under Richt have have rarely followed up good/great years with even better years.

If anyone is interested I did a 2 and a half hour podcast last night with 10 guests. It can get you through the work day or put you to sleep, but everyone on the show made predictions like the ones I did above.

I seriously think Washington fans have been driven pat the point of insanity. It's funny, seeing as how Willingham could at least make half his seasons winning ones at Stanford, but can't do shit up at U-Dub....
