RIP my Dad

Following a nice weekend visit from my mother and sister, they returned home to find my father had died sitting in his recliner. He had his legs crossed and a hand in a bowl of chips, so it must have happened very suddenly. Small mercy that there appeared to be no suffering.

My dad was a fantastic guy. He umpired middle-school baseball and softball and he refereed little league football for 20+ years. He also ran the clock for many seasons of High School football and basketball games. He was active in the community and a great family-man.

Most of all he was my best friend.

I will miss sitting with him and playing video games, and I will miss our nearly weekly summer golf outings. I will also miss talking to him and listening to his stories. Our family will get by, but it is really going to be hard not having him around.

Dad, your 62 years on this earth was not enough. I'm really sorry you didn't get to make it to enjoy your retirement. When you see me coming to join you - whenever that may be - go ahead and make a tee time for us in the afterlife.

God, take care of him for me. He was one of the good ones.

I love you Dad.

- Brian

Very sorry to hear that Brian. I lost my grandfather last week, but he was as close to a father as I really ever had so I can sympathise somewhat with how you are feeling right now.

62 is much too young though

BrianD, my condolences and prayers to you and your family. Having suffered a recent loss myself, and this being easier said than done, but you have to take it day by day.

Your father seemed like the type of father I hope to be one day.

I am sorry for your loss.
