What new text-based football game do you think we'll see first?

Wolverine Studios puts out games fast, so that'll probably be the one.

Other than TCY2, the one I'd like to see the most, is Bowl Bound Pro Football.

Both of these polls have a purpose, fyi. I'm doing an article next week, and one thing that I intend to talk about is the lack of any buzz on football sims compared to several months ago when some were discussing the possibility of there being four new football games this fall.

Yeah, if the game is alive and doing well, Arlie needs lots of help getting the word out. I thought this was supposed to be close, so I started checking in a few months ago and just saw a flatline forum. Sad, I like Arlie's games but it would appear that DDS may have the next game.

Can I get a shout out in the article to my Mom, in Spokane? Thanks.

I hope that isn't the case, but I don't really frequent the forums at GreyDog that much. I don't really care too much for the type of other games that have (not big into wrestling or anything). I'm a big fan of BBCF though, and am in multiple leagues where still to this day when an occasional issue comes up, Arlie immediately gets the problem figured out or assists in the issue (including a case in one of my leagues just last week that he assisted with at 6 or 7pm with no notice).

I have no idea if/when BBPF is coming out or what features it is supposedly going to have or if it is supposed to be good, but after all of the great support Arlie has provided and the quality of BBCF, I would easily buy it immediately without thinking. (similar to how I used to feel about OOTP after ootp 2 or 3 oddly enough)

It's pretty sad that "We will not see a new football title released in 2008." is even a possibility, let alone tied for the lead at this point.

Marketing is not a strong suit of these companies. Training camps have started and we have no idea what to expect. Maybe the genre is just in decline.

I think Draft Day Football will be out the door first (just b/c of the quick turnaround in Wolverine Studios games).

However, I also think that a Solecismic entry (likely FOF7 or FOF6.999) will be out by late November.

I don't want to speak for Gary, but I know that Wolverine is really taking its time with this game. Add that, with the other sports, the "quick turnaround" was in part because they had a platform to work with.

To that end, I hope that those who are thinking Gary and Tim are going to spit out a game just like that aren't expecting as such.

I also don't believe that Arlie has shelved BBPF whatsoever. It would have been nice if he was able to keep up with the blogs, or if people at GreyDog had kept up with the discussion that a few of us had started when he announced some things back in April, but I also know life stuff gets in the way, and making sure the game is down right has to take precedent.

Still, I do wish he was able. It would help get the thoughts of the BBCF/BBPF dynasties going. Then it would help get thoughts of a DDSCF/DDSPF dynasty going.

Then I'd likely pass out from euphoria.

I believe that is VPI's new project, and it is the one I'm the most excited about at the moment.

Okay, excellent. I was eating a hamburger that was kind of messy, so "why" was about all I could get out. I didn't want to forget about it, so I just threw it out there.

Are there any features that you're excited about? Or just that he's putting it out there?

The new title I would like to see is the "Brett Favre: Will I play or won't I play this year" Football 2005-2011.

On a serious note, I do have a suspicion that the genre is in decline due to an overall higher cost of living and the lack of promotions most of these games get.

Strangely enough, the game time on this title is about a month, but it feels like it lasts forever.

Right now, there isn't any particular feature that I'm excited about. I just have a good feeling that he will produce a great game.

If I was around to vote, I would definitely want to see EBM's (Todd's) game. The rest I don't care about - Todd is the only one whose design of a football sim matches what I would want for SP. So not knowing what will come out first, I will be content to wait for Todd's game whenever.

I just realized that I completely forgot about Football Mogul.

And not only did I forget about it, but no one bothered to mention it. I guess that pretty much sums it up. Does anyone here play it?

Yeah, BBPF's still under development. My issue isn't so much that I need a ton of feedback, I just need more time to get the design I have mapped out into fruition. Things have been going very well in my "real" job, and while that's good for me in some ways, it's cutting a bit into my dev time. I also have made spending time with my (soon to be) 3-year old a major priority.

That said, I am plugging along and will get people updates when I think the time is right. While that may frustrate some and lead to a "lack of buzz", my concern right now is just on making a quality pro football game. Once I get that completed, I think the other stuff will start to fall into place.

Article is up. There's nothing terribly new from what was said in the two poll threads (other than my personal predictions), but if you want to take it look, it's at the front page:

Operation Sports - Madden 09 - NCAA Football 09 - FIFA 09 – Tiger Woods PGA Tour – NBA 2K9

Based on comments by Clay at Sports Mogul, it appears that Football Mogul will be released at some point this week. Based on past history, there's not much reason to believe that said release will be particularly playable.

Let me rephrase: the last version I played around with ('07) was SP only. I don't see anything in the feature sets from '08 or '09 to indicate that it was added.
