Who will get the 1st pick overall in 2009?

Thread title is the question, who will it be? The jets are looking pretty terrible right now, the Raiders have definitely inproved some from last year so I think they're safe this time round. The Ravens have huge question marks everywhere but in the secondary. The team a lot of magazines and online polls have tabbed is a surprise to me though: The Kansas City Chiefs.

Are they really that bad?

Poll to ome, make your vote and tell us why you think so!!

The patriots, they will come up with some videos of the commissioner stealing street signs.

Or Houston because I get to watch every game if I want to.

Count me in for the Patriots... it's interesting how they've gone from being nice-guys to "heels," basically in the past 12 months, and a last-place finish would only complete the process, after which they can go back to being a pitiful franchise that everyone roots for, like the Cubs.

I feel pretty comfortable saying it won't be any one of these teams. There is almost always a big surprise loser, or someone people thought would be much improved who were pretty bad the previous year.

Tell us who it is then Chief =)

I left the raiders off because I really think the addition of McFadden alone will win them a couple more games than say, the Jets or KC. I've got a good feeling for the Dolphins season as well because if you look at last season, while it was pathetic, they were in 2/3 of their games losing by a TD or less in half of them. I think with some solid rookies they could make some wins.

I basically went through and selected what I see "on paper" as the worst team from each division. Just basedon that I'm going with the Jets, but KC really could make it close with their schedule and a general lack of depth overall.

Also, if you throw in the annual Mike Brown injury in the first couple of weeks your Chicago Bears would be a reasonable entry. Barring a Matt Forte breakout, they have the worst collection of "skill position" talent in the league. And this is coming from a guy who has been a Rex defender in years past.

I picked Atlanta, as many other did, but the Raiders are a solid choice, despite the high picks. Someone has to call the plays.

On paper, it "should" be Atlanta: which is exactly why it probably won't be. Someone else will take a nosedive and ATL will probably pick around 3-5.

The Jets and Redskins I think will be better than the Dolphins or Eagles in their own divisions.

Dola,

I doubt the Lions will be the worst team. They cant do anything right, including being bad enough to get the first overall pick.

What are the odds that the "winner" of this poll makes the playoffs?

3-1? 4-1?

I think it's worth noting that someone named Orton or Grossman will be starting for the Bears, and their entire off-season consisted of signing Kevin Jones, Marty Booker, and a wooden peg-leg for Mike Brown.

Those are two different questions...

Who will be the worst team in the NFL this season?
The Falcons...by far. They got rid of anyone with talent while blowing their FA money on a backup running back and wasting a #3 pick on a quarterback who may have been around for their second round pick. The franchise is squarely in the shitter.

Who will get the 1st pick overall in 2009?
Not the Falcons. Atlanta is such a shitty franchise that even when they have a pitiful excuse of a team, they'll find a way to screw themselves out of getting the #1 pick by winning two or three games at the end of season.

Also, they lost their top rusher (not a real loss), and receiver from last year.

You have to be insane to believe that. Ryan wouldn't have survived pick #8, if not pick #6.

I'm not seeing Ryan prosper in Hotlanta this season. Hopefully the kid has some mental toughness, cuz if not...his confidence could be shot after the season.

Dola edit...I don't think he rated a #3 pick, but I also don't think he would have been around in the second round either.

I think Ryan won't be playing much until after midseason. Smith seems smart, so I think Redman will be getting a lot of snaps, especially early. If the o-line looks halfway decent, maybe Ryan gets a shot (at least more than 4 games or so).

It probably won't be the Falcons, just because someone will come out of nowhere to be more awful than most people think. But still, Atlanta is the safest bet by far.

Listening to sports talk radio here the other day and the callers and hosts were talking about 6-10 being the worst the team could end up. I am still not sure what kind of narcotics they were on. Its not hard to imagine the Falcons with only 2-4 wins.

I'm going Lions with the bonus of Matt Millen actually getting fired.

For season win totals, Vegas has Atlanta at 4.5 followed by Miami and KC at 5.5. Oakland, San Fran and Baltimore are at 6. Detroit and St. Louis are the last of the bad teams at 6.5.

49er's. I'm surprised no one's mentioned them yet, but that's probably how far they've fallen off the radar screen.

I love the team, but I really don't think they're going anywhere. Smith is a bust and Nolan is a much better coordinator than head coach.

Oakland. It all starts at the top. And Al has lost it. Sad to see, really. That franchise has a great history and tradition (because of him). But the NFL is too competitive for any franchise to do well with an owner like 2008 Al Davis.
