The New York Islanders
I have decided to start a dynsasty with NYI, who are definitely stuck in a bit of rut. Besides DiPietro our other "stars" consist of Doug Weight, Mike Sillinger and Bill Guerin who are all retiring at the end of the season. We have a few good prospects to look forward to with Corey Trivino and Mark Katic, but they are along way of from starting for us. Initial Setup
My first order of business was finding someone for our LW. Ladislav Nagy fit the bill, and was hapy to come to us, so i tied him down to a 2,750,000 deal for 2 years. In the waiver draft I picked up 25 year old C Jiri Novotny from Columbus and Goalie Hannu Toivonen from St. Louis who will be a good back-up for Rick. In the pre-season matches I sent out my strongest team for a few of the games, and then mixed and matched for the others. A 5-2-0-1 record speaks volumes and shows the rest of the league that our strongest team can, quite easily, beat their second string teams. Interesting. My input has already started paying off with Nagy bagging 4 goals and 5 assists, whilst Jon Sim will miss the start of the season with broken wrist. DiPietro maintained a winning record in all his pre-season games. So at the start of the season, the organistation will look like this: Code:
I'm not too optimistic for this season, or the next if i'm honest, but I will be hoping some of our prospects can start to shine through this season in an attempt to squash the amount of retiring players this season. Last edited by Nugget699 : 08-25-2008 at 01:20 AM. |

I had a vague idea of what I wanted to do to the team this season. My goals were quite simple, improve on what we did last season, sounds quite easy, but this is me we're talking about. Before the Pre-Season games I brought in 30 year old Goalie David Aebischer and LW Ladislav Nagy from Free Agency to try and strengthen up our Depth Charts a touch. Danis wasn't a good back-up to DiPietro who is still on his mamoth contract. And Aebischer will provide good competition for Rick. Our Left Wing is quite weak so Nagy should fit straight into Line 1 with Andy Hilbert or Jon Sim filling up Line 2. 18 year olds Corey Trivino, Mark Katic and Josh Bailey along with Goalie Stefan Ridderwell got invited to Training Camp. Scores 5/9 - NYI 4-6 PIT 8/9 - BOS 1-2 NYI 11/9 - BUF 4-3 NYI 14/9 - NYI 6-2 NYR 17/9 - NYI 6-2 OTT 20/9 - TOR 3-3 NYI 23/9 - PHI 1-4 NYI 26-9 - TOR 4-3 NYI September - 4-3-1 I was pleased with our effort in Pre-Season particularly our 6-2 wins over the Rangers and Ottawa. I replaced DiPietro after the disaster of the first game and Aebischer then looked solid in goal for every game after this. He will definately start for us. Katic doesn't look like he is going to be in our plans, although I am confident he can make the step up to the NHL. Ridderwall and Bailey didn't get any game time. Bailey would have had some time had Corey Trivino not been a stand out by notching up an assist. I have since offered him a contract which he accepted. I will try and blood him through by putting him on the 4th Line and giving him a little bit of game time here and there. Bill Guerin wasn't being quite as productive in the first line, so I swapped him with Trent Hunter who was banging in goals and picking up assists all over the place. Guerin seemed more comfortable in the 2nd Line and Hunter was still playing well. He seemed to pair well with Nagy who didn't have the best of Pre-Seasons. Jon Sim seemed much keen for the first line spot, and he will probably get it for our first game again Florida. I wasn't too happy with Andy Sutton who notched up double figures for PIMs, nor Hilberts lousy 6.9% accuracy from 29 shots. Last edited by Nugget699 : 08-07-2008 at 06:00 AM. |
