"Rebooting" A Nightmare On Elm Street?
They are not bringing Robert Englund to play Freddy, and they are letting Michael fucking Bay run the new series. Are they out of their fucking minds?!
New Line sets up new 'Nightmare' Platinum Dunes to get Freddy ready for return By MICHAEL FLEMING Freddy Krueger is getting a wakeup call. Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have been set by New Line to relaunch the movie series centered on the iconic killer, who haunts the dreams of teenagers and kills them in their sleep. The trio will create a new franchise based on Wes Craven’s 1984 film “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” Originally played by Robert Englund, the Krueger character haunted nine films and two TV series in what was New Line’s most lucrative franchise until “The Lord of the Rings.” Deal comes as Bay, Fuller and Form ready an early May start for “Friday the 13th,” New Line’s relaunch of another iconic baddie, Jason Voorhees. Marcus Nispel will direct from a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (“Freddy vs. Jason”). Both franchises will be given a complete overhaul, just as Platinum Dunes did with the Nispel-directed “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” New Line won’t hire a writer on “Nightmare” until the writers strike ends. At Rogue Pictures, the Platinum Dunes team is prepping an exorcism thriller to be directed by David Goyer and a “Near Dark” remake to be directed by Samuel Bayer. Bay, Fuller and Form are also developing a Universal remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds,” with Martin Campbell directing Naomi Watts. hxxp://www.variety.com/article/VR1117979807.html?categoryid=1236&cs=1

Right, because Bay doesn't have a track record for successful movies or anything

Successful, yes. Good? That's subjective.

Considering the abortion that Bay's Texas Chainsaw Massacres have been, and the new Friday the 13th's he's making will be, this will probably be the trifecta of suck.

I don't think you can get too worked up over Michael Bay bastardizing Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th considering they bastardized themselves many, many films ago.
I think the Bay-fueled remake of "The Birds" is more frightening, although I like the potential -- exploding birds and Naomi Watts' nipples would make for a good film. |

Granted, the sequels have not been great, but I consider the original 'Nightmare' to be one of the great slasher flicks of all time. It'll be disappointing like remakes of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween, especially without Englund playing the part of Freddy.

I thought this line kind of gave away the fact that this was fairly old news.

Sweet! When I watched "Nightmare on Elm Street", I always thought to myself, you know what this movie needs (besides more cowbell), was intense explosions and long drawn out car chases. Same with Friday the 13th.
