If you had the top overall pick, would you take...? (Ronnie Lott)
Same game as before. You have the top pick and you can't trade down. Ronnie Lott is in the draft. You know how Ronnie's career will shape up. Simple question:
Do you take Ronnie with the top overall pick, or do you go for the random top ranked rookie? Does a game changing safety warrant a top pick, or no? -Abe

I do, even though though you'd probably be widely panned for taking a Safety #1 overall. I'd also take Polamalu, Ed Reed, and maybe a couple others.

Polamalu? Surely you jest.

No safety is worth that kind of value.

No safety with 10 fingers is worth that kind of value.

Two people have posted no, but only one person has voted no. Interesting eh?

Let's not forget that Lott played CB at various times in his career.
EDIT: He came out as a CB his rookie season and had 7 INTs at CB his rookie season. Last edited by Warhammer : 01-10-2008 at 02:05 PM. |

Yes I'd take Lott, although like someone else has said... stretching to take a safety at 1.1..

Lott was a great player for a long time, was a great leader and worked hard. id take him at 1.1. all time greats and game changers are what you want from the first pick

Easily would take him. He may have officially been a "Safety", but Lott was the kind of player that you could put him just about anywhere on the field.

It's funny how many forget that Lott actually started out as a cornerback for the 49ers. That was the biggest reason why Lott would have been chosen over Easley (who Cincinnati selected 8th); because Lott was better suited to start out his career at cornerback. |

With the spread offense soon to be the offense of choice in the NFL, an elite safety is worth the #1 pick, especially one like Lott...

Bob Sanders is a very nice player, and he is no Ronnie Lott. This is another easy one, getting a player of his caliber can change your whole defense.
